28 year-old central defender Carlos Garcia has successfully undergone a medical and is set to sign a three-year deal
Maccabi Tel Aviv FC have agreed personal terms with Almeria's 28 year-old central defender, Carlos Garcia, who has passed a medical and is set to sign a three-year deal. The six-foot Barcelona-born central defender is set to become MTA Sports Director Jordi Cruyff's second summer signing as he joins fellow countryman Gonzalo Garcia. The solid defender, who didn't miss a single minute of Almeria's 37 matches in Spain's second division last season, saw his side finish seventh and narrowly miss out on the promotion play-offs.
A product of Espanyol's youth academy, Garcia made his senior debut in October 2003 against Spanish giant Real Madrid before making two more appearances that season. The following season Garcia was loaned to third division side Poli Ejido, where he made 32 appearances and scored one goal. In 2005, Garcia was signed by second division side Almeria and, apart from a season-long loan with Real Betis in 2009/10, enjoyed a successful six years at the club. In the 2007/08 season, Almeria won promotion to the top flight before being relegated after four seasons. During the relegation season, Almeria reached the semi finals of the "Copa Del Rey" before being knocked out by Catalan giants Barcelona 8-0 on aggregate.
