Almeria's 28-year-old Spanish central defender has successfully undergone a medical and is set to sign a three-year-deal
Maccabi Tel Aviv FC agreed to personal terms with Almeria's 28-year-old Spanish central defender, Carlos Garcia, who has passed a medical and is set to sign a three-year-deal. The Barcelona-born central defender (1.85cm) is set to become Jordi Cruyff's second summer signing as he joins fellow countryman Gonzalo Garcia.
The solid defender, who hasn't missed a single minute of Almeria's 37 matches in the second division, saw his side finish seventh and narrowly miss out on the promotion playoffs. A product of Espanyol's youth academy, Garcia made his senior debut in October 2003 against Spanish giant Real Madrid before making two more appearances that season.
The following season, Garcia was loaned to third-division side Poli Ejido, where he made 32 appearances and scored one goal. In 2005, Garcia was signed by second-division side Almeria and, besides a season-long loan with Real Betis in 2009/10, enjoyed a successful six years at the club.
In the 2007/08 season, Almeria won promotion to the top flight before being relegated after four seasons. During the relegation season, Almeria reached the Semi Final of the Spanish Cup before being knocked out by Catalan giants Barcelona 0-5 and 3-0 over a two-legged tie.
