Maccabi Tel Aviv’s U19 side have achieved an excellent milestone by reaching the second round of the UEFA Youth League’s domestic Champions path.
How is the UEFA Youth League structured this season?
The UEFA Youth League (UYL) initially consists of two separate paths: teams competing in a league phase that runs alongside the senior Champions League, and domestic youth league champions who compete separately in a knockout format over two legs, home and away.
The domestic Champions path
Only domestic youth league champions from the various countries compete in this path. To reach the main phase of the competition, teams must progress through three knockout rounds.
Maccabi Tel Aviv ‘Shahar’ have qualified directly for the second round, where they will face FC Zurich.
What comes next?
If Maccabi win on aggregate over the two legs of the second round, they will advance to the third and final qualifying round, where they will face the winner of the tie between Sheriff Tiraspol and Farul Constanța.
Winning the third round will take Maccabi into the knockout stages, where the domestic Champions path merges with the teams from the Champions League path. From that point onwards, the tournament becomes a single-match knockout competition, with the winner advancing, all the way to the final in Nyon, Switzerland, at the Colovray Stadium.
