Maccabi Tel Aviv FC and Dutch club ADO Den Haag reached an agreement for the transfer of Tyrese Asante. The 22-year-old Dutch defender completed his medical at the club before signing a 3-year-deal with an option to extend by a further season.

After successfully completing his medical and signing his contract, Asante, told the Club’s official website: “I am really happy to be here and sign for the biggest club in Israel. I am looking forward to play in front of the Maccabi fans at Bloomfield stadium and ready to win more titles. Let’s make this season a successful one.”

Asante, (188cm) made 32 appearances for Den Haag last season and a total of 98 in all competitions since joining them in July 2021.

Having made his first footballing footsteps at the Youth Academies of Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam, Asante, moved to HV & CV Quick where he made his senior league debut at the age of 18.

Maccabi Tel Aviv continued their pre-season schedule as Zarko Lazetic’s side were held to a 0-0 draw by former Polish champions Raków Częstochowa.

Lazetic made three changes to his starting line-up from the side that beat Ruch Chorzow 5-0 earlier this week. Avishay Cohen was named in the starting line-up at right back while Idan Nachmias partnered Raz Shlomo at the heart of defense with Ofir Davidzada completing the defensive line at left-back. Joris van Overeem, Gabi Kanichowsky and Dor Peretz were the midfield trio as the latter led the team out wearing the captain’s armband.

Dan Biton was left out of the squad this time allowing Bar Lin a start on the wing with Henry Addo on the opposite flank.

Saied Abu Farhi’s brace against Ruch earned him a place as he led the line with Yonas Malede waiting for his chance on the bench.

Abu Farhi could have opened the scoring early on after good work from Addo down the wing but the 18-year-old somehow managed to miscue his effort off target.

Joris van Overeem had a shot from the edge of the area which Rakow’s keeper Kacper Trelowski managed to turn for a corner in the 12^th minute.

Dor Peretz came close as well with two close range headers following a pinpoint cross by Gabi Kanichowsky but his first effort went wide and his second was saved by Trelowski.    

Bar Lin looked lively down the left flank but his cross on 35 was headed wide by Abu Farhi.

On the stroke of halftime, Addo, who kept keeping Rakow’s defender busy down the left had a shot himself which sailed over.

Lazetic made a couple of changes after the break as Matan Baltaxa replaced Idan Nachmias while Abu Farhi made for Eran Zahavi.

The second half saw Rakow play with the wind at their backs and were the dominant side.

In the 63^rd minute Lazetic made eight changes to his side allowing most of his squad to receive some playing minutes.

Goalkeeper Ofe Melika pulled a stunning reflex save to prevent a Maccabi defender from heading the ball into his own net.

Lazetic made two more changes allowing Matan Haozez and Yonas Malede to feature for the final 10 minutes

With no team able to break the deadlock, the referee’s final whistle ended the match at the Miejski stadion in Busko-Zdorj at 0-0.

Maccabi’s pre-season training camp in Poland began with a 5-0 victory over second division side Ruch Chorzow at Busko-Zdrój. With Eran Zahavi and Nir Biton both left out to rest and with Roy Revivo, Ido Shahar, Osher Davida, Dor Turgeman and new signing Elad Madmon all on international duty ahead of the Olympic Games – Lazetic gave his entire squad some playing time.

 

In the 24^th minute Maccabi’s captain for the match, Dor Peretz put Maccabi in front after being put through by Dan Biton. The midfielder then turned from provider to scorer as he doubled the score on the stroke of halftime with a left foot rocket into the top corner to double the score. Lazetic changed almost the entire the team with Idan Nachmias the only player to stay on for the entire duration of the match sifting from right back to the heart of defense.

In the 64^th minute Nadav Niddam carried the ball from the middle of the park before sending a low powerful drive to make it 3-0. Matan Hozez who was introduced as a sub midway through the second half sent a cross which was headed in by Saied Abu Farhi on 73 for Maccabi’s fourth. In the 88^th minute Abu Farhi doubled his tally on the night as he side footed him from point blank range following good work by Yonatan Cohen.

Eran Zahavi will remain a Maccabi Tel Aviv player for a 7^th season after the striker agreed terms and signed a new contract for the 2024/25 campaign with an option to extend.

Maccabi’s owner Mitch Goldhar said: “Eran is a player who showed time and time again he is a leader and a winner. After our Championship success last year, this year’s campaign is set to be even more challenging. The work to defend the title and improve on last season will begin in Poland. I am sure everyone will join me in getting behind the team as we embark on another journey.“

Zahavi added: “I am delighted and excited to continue this amazing journey. It is true that I took my time together with the Club to think what the right thing for us would be. But the hunger for titles at a place I love so much managed to defeat every other thought. Yalla Maccabi !”

The 36-year-old striker scored last season 39 goals in 55 matches and has a total of 192 goals in 264 appearances in all competitions.

In Europe Zahavi scored 13 goals in 14 appearances and has an overall record of 30 goals in 46 international appearances.

Zahavi, who was voted as Player of the Season and Top goal-scorer of 2023/24, won a total of 6 trophies at Maccabi: 4 Championships (12/13, 13/14, 14/15 and 23/24) and 2 Toto Cups (14/15 and 23/24).
