Peretz: “This will be a game of wisdom”

Dor Peretz is completing his 10th full season at Maccabi Tel Aviv’s senior team. The 29-year-old midfielder who scored 10 league goals and a total of 17 in 48 appearances all competitions is enjoying the best form of his career.

Peretz, who is experienced at title races as his personal trophy cabinet already contains 4 domestic championships said ahead of the top of the table clash against Hapoel Be’ersheva: “We are enjoying the journey we’re going through as the process of coming together as a team and as a club. I think we’re managing to enjoy it despite the pressure. Ultimately, the end result is a something which is a result of the entire journey. It’s a long road, and we’re succeeding in enjoying it as well.”

As the tightest championship races in recent years sees Maccabi level on points with Be’ersheva with only two goals separating the two sides in the standings, Peretz reflected: “There have been battles, not as close as this one, but even last season when we arrived at Haifa’s Sammy Ofer stadium the gap could have narrowed. Every title race is full of emotions, pressure, and excitement. This season’s battle for the championship is particularly challenging and interesting. We’re here to give our best every day and enter this forthcoming match as best prepared as possible.”

In three encounters so far, Maccabi beat Be’ersheva 1-0 at Bloomfield and were held to a 2-2 draw at Turner in the regular season before recording a 3-1 victory in the Playoff at Turner in March. “It’s a game of wisdom” Peretz said ahead of the fourth and final match between the two this season. “Understanding how to play in such a match, when it’s filled with emotions and energy, knowing how to channel that in the right direction and force them to do the opposite. We are preparing as we do for every match. Of course, this is a special match, and our level of preparation ss as a team is very high.”

“This match will be very significant for both sides, and we want to continue the positive momentum we have against them,” he added. As Maccabi’s run-in includes three tough matches after Be’ersheva, a short trip to Maccabi Netanya on MD34 followed by another visit to Sammy Ofer where they face Maccabi Haifa before ending the season on MD36 at home against Beitar Jerusalem, Peretz said: “There are still many challenging matches ahead. The season isn’t over yet, but this game will inject a lot of energy and momentum for whoever wins it.”

On dealing with the pressure, at such matches, Peretz concluded: “In many matches this season, we were with a rope around our necks and had to get the points no matter what. I think I’m prepared, and we are prepared, for every match with maximum readiness. I believe the intelligence of the players will win the match, beyond just the ability on the pitch.”

Lazetic: “It is a match of small margins”

Their Songs: A playlist in eternal memory

As we approach Memorial Day for Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror, we pause to honor those we lost – through the music that tells their story.

In a special remembrance project, families of Maccabi fans who fell on and since October 7th created a living memorial of sound: a playlist, crafted from songs they dedicated to their beloved ones.

Each family sent us a single song – a song that holds a memory, a story, a trait, or the very spirit of the one who is no longer with us. Woven together, these songs form more than an emotional playlist in their memory. Through these songs they loved, through the music they left behind, we remember how deeply they are missed.

May their memories be a blessing.

May their songs never fade.

Nachmias: “I am happy we knew to put our foot down and make it easy”

Idan Nachmias marked his 104th Maccabi appearance with an assist as he set-up Dor Peretz’s second goal which completed a three-goal comeback. Nachmias, who saw Dor Hugi give Hapoel Haifa an early lead before Weslley Patati leveled the score in the first half and Peretz scored two quick goals after the hour mark, said at the end: “The first half was very messy, as Hapoel Haifa are an excellent side at home, and we all saw all the other cubs struggle here. During the interval we analyzed the actions we should have done better, areas we should have reached, and felt a lot better in the second half. In football, at least to my knowledge, after one or two poor results, the match which takes you out of the bad momentum is never easy. I am happy that in the second half we knew to put our foot down a little more and make it a lot easier for ourselves.”

Nachmias, who was complimented for his performances, added: “Two years ago I suffered a serious knee injury and before the injury I had around three months under Vladimir Ivic where I wasn’t even in the squad. To return like that from injury is something which is really pleasing, and I would only like to maintain stability and help the team as much as possible.”

Ahead of next week’s top of the table clash against Hapoel Be’ersheva at Bloomfield, Nachmias said: “Every match against Be’ersheva, against Maccabi Haifa or against Beitar Jerusalem is another match for the title. It is a very big match, but we have experience in matches like that and we will do what we need to do in order to be ready.”

Peretz: “We did our job now let’s see what Be’ersheva do”

Dor Peretz scored two goals in the space of three second half minutes to help Maccabi pull an impressive comeback that kept his side in the race for the league title. The 29-year-old midfielder scored his 10th league goal and 17 in all competitions this season to clinch three valuable points. The victory saw Maccabi go level on points with Hapoel Be’ersheva that still have a game in hand, a week before they travel to Bloomfield stadium for next Monday’s top-of the table clash. Peretz, who captained the side that showed plenty of character as they came-back from an early Dor Hugi goal, said at the end: “Once again we returned from a goal down which is not easy. It was a very difficult match against an excellent side, an opponent of the highest level. I am delighted we showed a lot of character and determination despite conceding an early goal and played all the way to the end.”

As the gap from Be’ersheva was reduced and now only goal difference separates between the two sides, Peretz said: “The gap was three points but stands on zero. Now it depends on them. When you are at a club that wishes to win things there is always pressure. We are always aiming for the championship, the cup and Europe. But this is why there are such players, staff and management to divert this pressure to good places.”

Peretz whose goals proved vital for Maccabi this season, added: “I have a great desire to help the team as much as possible. There are moments when a player will give the rest of the team energy and it could be any player – Weslley Patati, through to Joris van Overeem and the defense. We did our job today, and now let us wait and see what Be’ersheva will do in their match.”
