Maccabi beat Kfar Sava 3-0
Pre Game
Maccabi’s coach Georgios Domis made two changes from the side which held Villarreal to a 1-1 draw in the Europa League for the league match against Hapoel Kfar Sava. Sheran Yeini replaced Eitan Tibi to partner Luis Hernandez at the heart of defense with Maor Kandil and Enric Saborit completing the back-four on the right and left respectively.
Sidelined by the injury to his eyebrow for which he received five stitches by Maccabi’s medical staff, Dan Glazer, was replaced by Tal Ben Chaim. Eyal Golasa and Dor Peretz both dropped back to a deeper position in midfield which was completed by Dan Biton with Yonatan Cohen and Aleksandar Pesic keeping their places upfront to form an attacking trio with Ben Chaim.
First Half
Three minutes from the start Maccabi came close to break the deadlock as Dan Biton led a counter attack before releasing Yonatan Cohen whose square ball fell to Aleksandar Pesic. The Serbian striker who scored Maccabi’s equalizer against Villarreal miscued his volley which beat Matan Zalmanovic but bounced back off the post. Pesic had another chance in the 10th minute as Kfar Sava’s defense failed to clear the danger but once again failed to connect.
On 22 Biton had an initial shot from the edge of the area blocked by a defender before Ben Chaim teed him up for the rebound only to miss-hit his shot wide of the target.
Four minutes later, Kandil found Dor Peretz who ghosted into the area, but his right foot shot was blocked by a defender for a corner which was cleared.
A mistake by Luis Hernandez could have cost Maccabi dearly on 36 as his back pass was intercepted by Luwagga Kizito. But his attempt to curl the ball and catch Daniel Tenenbaum off his line missed the target.
A minute later however Maccabi took the lead as Cohen fed Pesic who sent a clever back-heal flick to beat the keeper and put Maccani in front. On the stroke of halftime, Maccabi doubled their lead in spectacular fashion as Peretz won a tackle in the midfield, released a counter attack at the end of which Cohen set up the second goal as well this time for Biton who slotted home on the half volley.
Secon Half
Seven minutes after the restart, Biton turned provider and repaid Cohen for his earlier assist. This time round Cohen rose high to head in Biton’ pinpoint corner for Maccabi’s third.
Cohen could have scored another on 58 as he crept behind Kfar Sava’s defense to meet Ben Chaim’s cross from the right. But his header which was directed on target was pushed by Zalmanovic for a corner.
Donis made a double substitution on 73 as Etey Shechter and Matan Hozez replaced Pesic and Ben Chaim.
Shechter got involved almost instantly as two minutes after his introduction he shielded Saborit’s cut back and teed up Biton whose left foot drive was deflected for a corner. Avi Rikan, Eylon Almog and Nick Blackman were given 10 minutes to make their mark as they replaced Golasa, Biton and Cohen in the 80th minute.
Inside injury time, Shechter who was booked a minute earlier, was sent off for a tackle on the keeper.

Donis: “Dor speaks about missing the fans, I haven’t even met them yet”
Dor Peretz added: “We are preparing for every game as we should with tactical and video meetings. We will do everything the coach asks us t ok do on the pitch, as he is the one who gives us the instructions. We must be prepalred regardless who the opponent is. We miss the fans badly, especially when there are supposed to be 30,000 fans in every home game who normally push us on, but the game is the same game and the points we collect are the same number of points. We must focus on our selves and take every point”. Donis added with a smile: “Dor speaks about missing the fans. I haven’t even met them yet”.

Maccabi hold Villarreal to 1-1 draw
Pre Match
With six points from the first three matches, Maccabi Tel Aviv lined-up against in form Villarreal that maintained it’s 100% record in the group following the 4-0 victory over Maccabi in MD3. Just like the match in Spain which kicked off over an hour late due to the heavy down pour, similar weather conditions were more than evident in the build-up to the reverse fixture in Tel Aviv.
Maccabi’s coach Georgios Donis made two changes from the side which beat Hapoel Hadera in the league on Sunday as Eytal Tini stepped into the heart of defense replacing Sheran Yeini alongside Luis Hernandez with Maor Kandi on the right and Enric Saborit on the left completing the back-four. Tal Ben Chaim made way for Eyal Golasa, who formed a midfield trio with Dan Glazer and Dor Peretz while Dan Biton and Yonatan Cohen kept their place in support of Aleksandar Pesic upfront.
First Half
Villarreal dominated the game right from the start but didn’t seem to trouble Daniel Tenenbaum in Maccabi’s goal. The only time the Brazilian born custodian was put under pressure, was due to a mishit back-pass he had to come out for and clear the danger. On the stroke of halftime however, Carlos Bacca picked the ball near the halfway line, tore through the middle of Maccabi’s defense and before releasing Alex Baena who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Second Half
With a 1-0 deficit at the interval Maccabi came out of the dressing room for the second half with all guns blazing. Two minutes after the restart, Maccabi were back on level terms as Villarreal’s defense struggled to deal with Maor Kandil’s cross which was knocked down by Dor Peretz before Aleksandar Pesic blasted the ball into the roof of the net.
In the 54th minute, Dan Glazer was forced to come off after suffering a head injury as Georgios Donis introduced Nick Blackman. Kandil shot wide 55 and Eyal Golasa shot over the crossbar on 58 but a minute later Maccabi should have completed the comeback. Golasa sent a perfect long ball over Villarreal’s defense into the path of Pesic who charged forward but with only the keeper Geronimo Rulli to beat sent his shot over the crossbar.
Villarreal’s keeper Unai Emery made no less than four changes in the 63rd minute, but Maccabi continued to look dangerous as Yonatan Cohen had a shot blocked for a corner on 71.
In the 80th minute, good work from Golasa released Dan Biton who should have got something more than his shot which was blocked for a corner. Kandil headed from the goalmouth to prevent Villarreal from taking the lead on 84. A minute later, Donis made a double substitution as Avi Rikan and Sheran Yeini replaced Biton and Pesic. Saborit had a chance to put Maccabi in front on 88 but shot high and wide, only to be shown the red card a minute later for a foul on Ruben Pena.
Tenenbaum pulled a last gasp to deny Gerard Moreno’s injury time close range header before Eden Karzev and Ofir Davidzada came on for the final seconds replacing Cohen and Golasa. Villarreal tried but Maccabi managed to hang on and celebrate the point at the final whistle.
