Maccabi played their last match of 2018 and defeated Hapoel Raanana 2:0 which was also their 6th win across all competitions.

Maccabi’s Terrific Month

Vladimir Ivic’s squad had a successful month which included 6 wins and a draw (1:1 against Maccabi Petah Tikva on 1.12). Over the 7 matches Maccabi’s goal differential was 18:4.

Maccabi’s lead atop the table increased to a 16 point lead over second place as Bnei Yehuda fell to Maccabi Haifa.

This was the first contest for the Yellow & Blue at Ramat Gan Stadium since 2013/14 when the defeated Ramat HaSharon 1:0.

Rajko’s Iron Defense

Keeper Predrag Rajkovic was all smiles after the match after recording his second clean sheet in row. To date, the Serbian shot stopper and Maccabi have only conceded 8 league goals, the least of any other team.

Ivic’s super substitute this time was Dor Peretz who came on in the 64’ and scored Maccabi’s second goal in the 73’.

Peretz joins Avi Rikan who turned the same trick against Hapoel Beer Sheva and Yonatan Cohen who did the same thing versus Beitar Jerusalem in the State Cup.

Once were already on the subject of Dor Peretz, let’s note that his goal against Hapoel Raanana was his 5th marker this season which ties him for second place with Omer Atzili and Itay Shechter who also scored his 5th goal against Raanana, among Maccabi goal scorers this campaign. Eliran Atar is first with 7.

Peretz is the only midfielder in the league with that amount of goals. Players such as Yarden Shua in first place with 9 and Nigel Hasselbaink with 5 are attacking players. Gidi Kanuk who plays a similar position as Peretz has 4 goals.

With his assist on Itay Shechter’s goal, Maor Kandil has now assisted on a goal in his last three matches for Maccabi.

Ruslan Barsky proved once again that he just doesn’t stop running. The midfielder went over the 12km mark once again as he clocked in with 12.km. Dan Glezer was second for the Yellow & Blue with 11.4km.

Maccabi Tel Aviv players along with Club CEO Ben Mansford and other Yellow & Blue representatives paid their last respects to football legend Sheya Glazer z”l at the Yarkonim Cemetery in Petah Tikva. Glazer passed away on Saturday at the age of 91.

Journalist and broadcaster Dani Dvorin and former player Noah Reznik joined Glazer’s family to eulogize the great. Yesterday, Maccabi Tel Aviv wore black armbands in memory of Glazer in their match at Hapoel Raanana

Maccabi are today delighted to announce that goalkeeper Daniel Tenenbaum has signed a new one-year-contract extension with an option to extend by another season which should keep him at Maccabi until 2021.

The 23-year-old Brazilian born keeper, who joined Maccabi in 2016 from Flamengo, emigrated to Israel and recently began his military service at the IDF, told the club’s official website: “It is an exciting period of time for me and extending my contract at Maccabi by another season makes it even more special. I will keep on working hard in training in order to improve my abilities as a keeper and be ready for whenever I am called upon”.

Maccabi’s CEO, Ben Mansford, added: “I am pleased that Daniel has committed to a longer term contract at Maccabi. As the season has developed, we have continued to invest in the players for the future. We hope Daniel will be one of those and he will continue to fight with Haviv Ohayon and Daniel Peretz to push Predrag Rajkovic all the way. It is also important that I thank Mitch for his continued support which allows us to secure the best young players for seasons to come. Mitch’s investment in youth will be paramount to the Club succeeding and realizing its aims over the next few seasons. I look forward to seeing Daniel challenge to make his mark in the first team”

Maor Kandil, the Maccabi Tel Aviv defender looked back at his side’s 2:0 Matchday 16 win over Hapoel Raanana at Ramat Gan Stadium:

“I feel lot better and if I didn’t feel ok I wouldn’t have been able to play. I am happy that we won today and I hope that this continues.”

Working hard:
“I don’t know if I’m the next thing but I go from match to match and try to prove that I belong especially playing for a club like Maccabi Tel Aviv. I hope that I can continue to work hard and prove every chance I have to play.”

Playing as a team:
“We have such good team and it’s not just one player. When everyone played well it makes all of our lives easier and I am happy that this is the case. We have a great dressing room and it should only continue. I’m really enjoying it.”

Continuing to improve:
“The staff demands us to work hard and they are always looking to see how we can improve. We have to give of ourselves all 90 minutes and we are really enjoying this year. We can’t take our foot off of the gas.”

Collecting points match to match:
“We have to go from match to match and keep collecting points and not out ourselves in a position where we will face pressure. We just want to keep picking up points.”

Vladimir Ivic, the Maccabi Tel Aviv Head Coach looked back at his side’s 2:0 victory over Hapoel Raanana at the Ramat Gan Stadium and talked about if getting the players to focus after a big week of three wins was more of a physical or mental challenge:

“Mentally, because had 3 tough games before this one and now we had another tough game. They played one day after us and we have a bigger squad. We played to take three points and win the game.”

The season so far:
“They can celebrate after the win but the next day we start to prepare for the next game. We all know our job and what is expected until the end of the season which will be tough and difficult. We won because we played organized and strong and the players have given 100%. That’s how we want to play in the future.”

Hard work:
“Our target is to have all of our players ready for every game especially with 3 games per week like last week. We have to use them and it’s good when we have 18-20 players and we have to keep the positive energy with the team. With hard work they can keep playing and be in the first 11.”

Upcoming transfer window:
“We organize every window more than 3-4 months beforehand and we all know what we want. But we will see if we will make a move.”

Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Hapoel Raanana 2:0 on Matchday 16 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika as Itay Shechter scored a first half goal and Dor Peretz who came on as a second half substitute found the back of the goal for the second strike in the victory.

Before the match the League Administration held a minute of silence to commemorate the passing of Israeli football and Maccabi Tel Aviv legend Sheya Glazer who passed away at the age of 91. The players wore black ribbons in his memory.

First Half
Maccabi began the match with a tremendous amount of pressure on the Raanana players and in the 10’ it almost paid off when Kandil sent a cross in the box to Atar but he missed the chance to give the Yellow & Blue the lead.

The wet and slick pitch along with the tight Raanana defense gave Maccabi a tough time but in the 38’ Shechter rose to the occasion and gave the visitor’s a 1:0 advantage as the striker put home a Kandil pass from 8 meters. In the 43’ Atar almost doubled the Yellow & Blue lead but his attempt to beat the keeper just missed as Ivic’s squad went into the break with a slim advantage.

Second Half
Maccabi made their first substitute 6 minutes into the half when Jair Amador entered the contest for an injured Piven. In the 52’ Atar again had a chance to score from the right side but his shot just missed the far left comer of the goal and went out while at the other end of the pitch Ariel Ngueukam almost found the equalizer but his chance went over the bar.

In the 64’ Ivic made his second substitute as Cohen was replaced by Peretz and what a sub it would be. Peretz doubled the Maccabi advantage in the 73’ when he finished off a beautiful Yellow & Blue attack with Atar getting credited for the assist, 2:0.

Chico Ofoedu was introduced in the 82’ for Micha for Ivic’s 3rd substitute while Shechter came oh so close to adding a third goal but just came up short as Maccabi took home the 3 points.

Maccabi Tel Aviv FC bows its head at the passing of Sheya Glazer at the age of 91. The striker was one of the greatest players in the Club’s history was considered as one of the most prolific goal scorers in the history of Israeli football. Maccabi will wear black ribbons during the match against Hapoel Raanana in commemoration of his contribution to the Club.

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s legendary forward Yehoshua (“Shaya”) Glazer, who started his career as a defender, came up through the club’s youth system and joined the senior squad at the young age of eighteen in 1945. In his first years with the club, before the establishment of the State of Israel, Glazer celebrated two consecutive prestigious State Cup victories in the 1945/46 and 1946/47 seasons. That was only the beginning of the celebrated career, abounding with trophies, of a striker who would remain the terror of the Israeli domestic league throughout the 1950’s.

His first milestone came in the 1951/52 season when he scored an amazing 27 goals, a season goal-scoring record for a Maccabi Tel Aviv player that remained unchallenged for 52 years until the 2013/14 season when Eran Zahavi surpassed him with 29. For many years Glazer was also Maccabi Tel Aviv’s all-time highest goal scorer with 130 lifetime goals. His prolific goal-scoring ability often came in the form of braces, hat-tricks and even four-in-a-match, with his pinnacle of six goals reached in a match against Hapoel Balfouria in the 1954/55 season.

Glazer was the spearhead of the Maccabi attack throughout the 1950’s and led them to numerous trophies and absolute dominance of Israeli football throughout the entire decade. Those trophies include five championships (’49/’50, ’51/’52, ’53/’54, ’55/’56, ’57/’58) and four State Cup trophies (’53/’54, ’54/’55, ’57/’58, ’58/’59), not including the two Glazer won before the establishment of the State of Israel. He scored in five of those six State Cup finals and in several of them also served as team captain. In two seasons, 1951/52 and 1956/57, Glazer finished as the league’s top goal scorer. Also as a member of the Israeli national team Glazer was a major figure for the largest part of his career. Between the years 1949 and 1961 he led the Israel attack and scored 18 goals in 35 appearances.
