“Tiberius was truly a colorful & exceptional person”
Tiberius Darau, Maccabi Tel Aviv's French fitness trainer in 2008 passed away earlier today
The 72-year old fitness trainer, Darau, worked not only with many clubs in France but also with some of the world's top athletes. He came to Israel in 2005 and joined Beitar Jerusalem's professional staff where he would train future Maccabi players Barak Itzhaki, Gal Alberman and Yoav Ziv.
Barak Itzhaki told the Official website: "I was in touch with Darau outside of the football world as well, and the news of his passing hurts a lot. I can tell you that I was able to know a man who was an amazing person and a top professional in his field. I not only had the privilege to work with him at Beitar for a year-and-a-half, but I also attended a 10 day training camp with him in France.
Tiberius was truly a colorful and exceptional person who will be missed by many footballer's from around the world."
Gal Alberman said: "This is very sad news. I had the opportunity to work with Tiberius Darau, a person who not only contributed so much to me personally but to football in Israel as well."
Yoav Ziv shared his feelings too: "Tiberius was a special person who brought in high standards of training that many Israeli fitness coaches have adopted. We got the sad news right after our evening practice session and memories from our time working with Darau came flooding back. I last saw him two years ago in Cannes, France and he was as jovial as ever. No words can describe how we are all feeling right now."

"We've been in training camp for a number of days already and we are working very hard for the upcoming season, especially for the UEFA Champions League second round qualifying match we have on July 14th. It's a chance for us to meet the new head coach and an opportunity to work on ourselves after a nice break from the Treble season.
It's good to be playing preseason matches and even though they aren't official games, they help us get back into a routine. The matches are more for practice and getting used to each other, not so much for the actual results whether we win or lose, however, we are a team that always wants to win. This is the best way for us to get back into a regular schedule and prepare for the new season."
Later today there will be an additional practice session and tomorrow, new head coach Slavisa Jokanovic will get to see his players against Hungarian side Diosgyori VTK.

Happy Birthday Mahran Radi!
130 appearances, 18 goals, 3 amazing seasons. This is what Mahran Radi has done with Maccabi Tel Aviv over the past three years. The midfielder celebrates his 33rd Birthday today, Wednesday July 1st and he's had many memorable moments over the time he's been with the club.
In honor of his Birthday we've decided to take a look back at the three biggest matches of Radi's career with the Yellow-and-Blue! Mazel Tov Mahran!
Maccabi Tel Aviv 4:0 Hapoel Tel Aviv 11.2.2013
One of the club's greatest derbies of all time and certainly one of the best matches under coach Oscar Garcia was also one of the most satisfying games for the not only the supporters but also Mahran Radi. Let's take it from the top! The scoring began when Radi started the play that ended with a Prica goal as the ball went through the hands of Reds 'keeper Adel and then continued with his pinpoint pass to Eliran Atar who headed it into the goal to make the score 2:0. From there Radi's deep ball into the box led to a penalty while he finished the night off with a blistering shot to the bottom left of the Hapoel goal completing the 4:0 rout of their city rivals.

In the 2nd leg of the UEFA Champions League third round qualifying matches between Maccabi and Basel, the visitors came into Bloomfield Stadium with a one-goal advantage. After Basel scored three unanswered goals in the first 32 minutes, Mahran Radi helped Paulo Sousa and his side fight their way back into the match. Radi aided in cutting the score to 2:3 by assisting on Eran Zahavi's beautiful strike and then drew Maccabi even at 3:3 with his Kung Fu kick in the 54th minute off an errant clearing pass as the ball found its way behind 'keeper Yann Sommer. Unfortunately, Maccabi was eliminated from Champions League play but Radi's performance was one for the ages.Maccabi Tel Aviv 3:3 FC Basel 6.8.2013
Maccabi Tel Aviv 6:2 Hapoel Beer Sheva 20.5.2015
One of the unforgettable matches of the Treble season was the Israel State Cup final in which Rada Prica had the game of his life and ironically just celebrated his own birthday yesterday! All of the players on the pitch that night starred in the victory and Mahran Radi who was in the starting lineup was one of them. His perfect corner kick found its way onto Prica's head to make the score 3:1 and in the 62nd minute Radi unleashed a gorgeous shot while turning his body and striking the ball with his left foot to put the cherry on top of a 6:2 State Cup win!

Earlier, the Zahavi spoke about his new role and how he envisions himself filling it: "It's a great honor for me to receive the captain's armband, but other than having it around my arm I haven't changed. Sheran left some very big shoes to fill, but I'm up for the challenge and I'm sure that all of the players will help me along the way. Since I came to the club, everyone has been great to me and I want to be the best captain that I can be especially for the supporters."
Zahavi also spoke about the responsibility of being the captain: "Even though I'll have the captain's armband on, there are at least five other players who are captains in their own right and the responsibility will be on all of us. It's terrific to receive the armband and I know everyone will be counting on me and I hope that I can live up to their expectations and the confidence they have shown in me."
