Alexander Uvarov
Aleksandr Uvarov came to Maccabi Tel Aviv in 1991/92 after playing for Dynamo Moscow and the USSR national team. Many remember his debut game in the league, when he took three goals in three minutes and was severely criticized by the media and the fans. It was then that Uvarov demonstrated his exceptional nature and proved his talent as a goalkeeper that stabilized the defensive game and ended the season with the team's first championship after 13 years.
Uvarov was an integral part of the good team of that decade, winning with it another championship, national cup, two Toto Cups and a "double". In 1999/00, Uvarov intended to step aside and retire, but after a weak opening by the team's goalkeeper at the time, Uvarov once again took his place between the posts. Uvarov retired from active playing that summer and has since been the assistant goalkeepers' coach for the team.
