Midfielder Hassan Abu Zaid signed a four-year deal at Maccabi Tel Aviv, arriving from Bnei Yehuda late in the 2012 summer transfer window after impressing Maccabi sports director Jordi Cruyff and head coach Oscar Garcia. The 22 year-old was promoted from the youth division at Bnei Yehuda in the 2009/10 season and scored one goal for the club that year. The following season the young midfielder made 28 league appearances, racking up eight yellow cards and one red card.

Abu Zaid appeared in all six of Bnei Yehuda's season 2012/13 matches before his transfer to Maccabi, three in the Toto (League) Cup and three in "Winner" (Premier) League play. His maiden appearance in Maccabi kit came in a 2-1 victory over Ashdod FC in the sixth matchweek. A week later he was in the starting line-up for a 0-2 win at Hapoel Acre. In all Abu Zaid made 20 appearances as holding midfielder in all competitions and celebrated his first league title with Maccabi at the end of the 2012/13 championship season.
