Maccabi Tel Aviv FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Steven Vanharen as the Club’s Sporting Director.
The 46-year-old Belgian signed a two-year deal and will lead the Club’s sporting operations as Maccabi continues its preparations for the 2026/27 season.
Maccabi CEO, Jack Angelides said: “We are delighted to welcome Steven to Maccabi Tel Aviv. Steven brings extensive experience from a variety of football environments across Europe. We are confident that his knowledge and leadership qualities will contribute to the Club’s ambitions.”
After signing his contract Vanharen added: “I am honored to join a club with the history, ambition and tradition of Maccabi Tel Aviv. From my conversations with the club’s senior hierarchy, it was clear that we share the same vision and desire to build a strong and competitive future. I am excited to work with everyone and look forward to contributing to Maccabi’s goals in the years ahead”.
Vanharen arrives at Maccabi after serving as Sporting Director of Hungarian side ETO Gyor for two years, where he played a key role in the club’s sporting strategy, recruitment process and squad development.
Having joined Gyor in the summer of 2024, Vanharen helped guide the newly promoted side to a fourth-place finish in his first season at the club. In the following campaign, Gyor reached the Hungarian Cup semi-finals and won the Hungarian league title, securing the club’s first championship since 2012/13.
Prior to his spell in Hungary, Vanharen held several senior football positions across Europe, including roles in scouting, recruitment, and performance analysis with clubs such as Beerschot, Sheffield United, Chateauroux and Olympiacos.
Everyone at Maccabi Tel Aviv welcomes Steven to the club and wishes him every success in his new role.
