Helio Varela became the first ever Maccabi Tel Aviv player to score at the World Cup as the 24-year-old winger came off the bench in the 58th minute at the Hard Rock Arena in Miami and scored within 3 minutes. Varela, who was was unused substitute for Cape Verde in their opening Group H match against Spain (0-0) scored his country’s second goal ever at this stage to earn a valuable point.

The draw leaves both Cape Verde and Uruguay on two points heading into the final round of matches with Varela facing Saudi Arabia on Saturday June 27th at Houston.
