Paulo Sousa will not be continuing in his role as head coach of Maccabi Tel Aviv FC after completing one full year of his contract

During his tenure at Maccabi, Sousa, 43, guided the team to the Israeli Premier League championship, the clubs’ second in succession, as well as to an historic campaign in Europe that lead to qualification for the round of 32 in the Europa League. The club have released the following statement:

“Maccabi Tel Aviv, the owner and management, wish to thank Paulo Sousa and all of his staff for their tremendous contribution to what was a highly successful season. Paulo has helped the club continue their progress toward ever greater achievements, embodying a work ethic and professionalism on which Maccabi Tel Aviv place great value. The club wish Paulo all the best in his new challenge as the head coach of FC Basel. A successor will be announced in due course.  The club will not be making any further comments until that time”.
