Maccabi Tel Aviv Have reached an agreement in principal with defender Yuval Shpungin on a three-year deal

Maccabi Tel Aviv have reached agreement in principle for the return of defender Yuval Shpungin to the club for the 2014/15 season. The 27 year-old Shpungin, a product of Maccabi’s Youth system, made 125 appearances for the senior side between 2004 and 2010 before joining Cypriot side Omonia, where he spent three seasons before leaving for Belgium side Mons.

Shpungin told the club's official website: "I am delighted to return home to the club where I made my first steps in football from age 7 to 23. It is a great honour to know the coaching staff want you in the team, especially as Maccabi is not just a home but the biggest club in Israel. From the moment this season ended I was contemplating whether or not to return to Israel or continue abroad. But as soon as the offer arrived from Maccabi the decision was almost automatic, because Maccabi is now a European club too".

Sports Director Jordi Cruyff said: “We are happy to add Yuval to our squad and have a home-grown player back at Maccabi. We believe we will benefit from his experience abroad”.

Shpungin added: "I can't wait to return to Kiryat Shalom and wear the Yellow shirt again since it was in these colours that I learned to give everything for the team".
