Maccabi Tel Aviv have agreed to terms with Chinese side Guangzhou FC on the transfer of Eran Zahavi. The Yellow & Blue’s #7 leaves Maccabi after three-and-a-half years of service as he helped the Club to three League Championships, one State Cup along with a Toto Cup. He was also an integral part of the team that advanced to the Europa League Round of 32 as well as the Champions League group stages this past season. Zahavi played in 168 official matches with Maccabi Tel Aviv and scored 134 goals.

The midfielder/striker broke many records since joining Maccabi in January 2013 when he arrived at Kiryat Shalom during the winter transfer window from Italian side Palermo. Zahavi helped the team capture their first title in a decade with the 2012/13 Championship while scoring 8 goals in 18 appearances. The following campaign, #7 continued dominating the league as he scored 29 league goals, added one in Cup play along with 5 more goals in the Europa League as the Club played in the competition’s Round of 32.

In the historic Treble season, Zahavi scored 27 goals in league play while adding 5 markers in the State Cup and another one in Toto Cup action while winning all 3 titles with Maccabi Tel Aviv. Zahavi also scored in 17 straight matches over the 2013/14-2014/15 seasons breaking yet another record.

The 2015/16 campaign began with Zahavi adding the captain’s armband to his already growing CV after Sheran Yeini left the Club. Maccabi and Zahavi then made history yet again by advancing to the group stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2004. Zahavi finished the qualifying stage of the tournament as the leading goal scorer with seven in 5 matches. In the group stage, Zahavi scored another goal from the penalty spot beating Porto keeper Iker Casillas. Though the Club didn’t win any titles, Number 7 broke the single season goal scoring record with 35 goals topping Nisim Elmaliach’s mark by five while also adding ten assists.
