The Israel Football Association and Special Olympics for people with intellectual disabilities held a unique encounter this past Sunday with Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Under-16 squad. The event was hosted at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom and included a presentation about the project, along with a combined training session which was capped off by a mixed match with participants from both sides.

Special Olympics is a world-class sports movement that operates in 177 countries with 4.9 million athletes and aspires to combine high-quality sports with a wide audience and to be a driving force for the social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. The goal is that the athletes can integrate into the community, learn, work, compete and play with the same opportunities as every person.
