Maccabi will begin its’ 86th State Cup run in Israel’s history

Maccabi played in 37 Cup Finals and won trophy 24 times – more than any Israeli club.

Maccabi advanced from the first round on 77 occasions and were knocked out at the first hurdle 8 times. At a success rate of 90.6% Maccabi has the best record out of all the Israeli clubs.

So Maccabi played in the Cup against 85 different opponents as they faced Maccabi Petah Tikva 23 times, Hapoel Tel Aviv 20 and Maccabi Haifa 19.

Both Hakoah Maccabi Ramat Gan and Hapoel Jerusalem faced Maccabi for a first round tie four times – more than any opponent.

The tie against Hapoel Um el Fahm will be the second time both clubs meet in the State Cup and almost three years to the day since the previous encounter. Last time round Um el Fahm dealt Maccabi an early Cup exit with a 3-2 defeat in the first round of the 2019/20 season.

Maccabi began their Cup run against the same opponent in the space of three seasons once – a 2-0 victory over Beitar Netanya (February 1977) followed by a 3-0 victory (February 1979).

The highest victory in the Cup Maccabi recorded in the first round of the 1937 season – 10-0 win over Maccabi Bar Kochba Jerusalem.

Benny Tabbak is Maccabi’s leading goal-scorer in the State Cup with 31 goals. Tabbak scored his first even goal in the Cup in the first round of the 1973 season on the way to a 2-0 win over Hapoel Ramat Gan. Tabbak’s 31st and final goal for Maccabi in the Cup was the winning goal in the State Cup Final of the 1988 season against Hapoel Tel Aviv (2-1).

Miko Belo, who is Maccabi’s appearance record holder in all competitions, holds the most appearances in the State Cup featuring in 75 matches.

Gerry Beit Halevi won the State Cup as Maccabi’s coach on four occasions (1954, 1955, 1964, 1965) more than other coach. Yisrael Halivner (1967 and 1970), Nir Levin (2001 and 2002) guided Maccabi as coaches to two State Cup victories each.
