Former Belgium international Bernd Thijs joins Maccabi after enjoying a distinguished playing and coaching career. The 47-year-old midfielder made more than 500 senior appearances for clubs including Standard Liège, Racing Genk, Trabzonspor, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Gent, while also representing Belgium at every youth international level before earning seven senior caps for the senior national team.

Following his retirement, Thijs moved into coaching and has since held assistant coaching roles at Gent, Standard Liège, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Raed and, most recently, at Győr, where he was part of the coaching staff that guided the club to the Hungarian championship title last season.

Neuroscientist Ludo Pollers joins Maccabi after spending the past two years at Hungarian side Győr. Earlier in his career, Pollers worked at Beerschot in Belgium, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, at Aspire Academy in Qatar and with the Belgian national ice hockey team. In addition, Pollers has worked with elite athletes and high-performance managers across a variety of sports.
