Much more than football: The children’s team that touched the Maccabi players

This past year saw the ILAN – Israel Association for Children with Disabilities create the “HaKatlanim” football team made up of physically challenged children who play the game we all love and fulfill a dream.

A group of volunteers who work with the team and train the children were in touch with the Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club Foundation and were invited to the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom. The emotional visit began with a talk by Foundation Head Yuval Shaham and the coach of “HaKatlanim”. The children then met the players and received Maccabi kits as they held a joint training session with the Maccabi stars.

Foundation Director Yuval Shaham spoke about the program: “The Maccabi Foundation and the Club are happy to host this special team of children. They are role models for all of us and their ability to play the game that we all love despite their challenges gives us all a tremendous amount of inspiration.

The coach of “HaKatlanim” Ben Rahav said: “In the name of all of the children I want to thank the Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club Foundation and on this exceptional event. The sensitivity and care shown by members of the Foundation including Yuval Shaham and Assaf Shemesh together with the players gave the children and their families great joy and motivation to continue to play football and to not feel inferior than any other child.”

After the training, Pizza Prego, one of the Club’s sponsors, provided lunch for the parents and children.

Come meet the Maccabi players up close

On Thursday January 31st meet the Maccabi Stars at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom. You’ll be able to take pictures, selfies and receive autographs from all of the Yellow & Blue stars up close and personal.

The event will begin at 15:00 and fans must be at the facility by 14:45. Registration opens today and is limited to 400 people. Please note, you will not be able to attend if you do not register in advance.

 

How does it work?
Registration is open today Friday January 25th at 11:00 to all Maccabi FIRST members for the Community Day on Thursday January 31st at 15:00 at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom, 106 Derech Ben Tzvi and is limited to 400 participants ONLY.
Each person may register up to 3 participants which includes the person submitting the registration. Just like when you make a reservation at a restaurant, you request a table for yourself plus 2 friends for a total of 3 ONLY.

IMPORTANT:

  • Participants are not allowed to bring with professional photographers or videographers.
  • Following the registration, you’ll receive an email requesting information about the participants.
  • If you registered for the last Community Day and weren’t able to come but didn’t give us notice, you will not be allowed to attend this coming Community Day. If you register for this upcoming Community Day and can’t come, please let us know in advance.
  • If weather conditions don’t permit the Community Day to take place, you will be notified a few hours prior to the event and you’ll be able to participate in the Community Day the following month.
  • All participants must arrive at the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility by 14:45. Should you be delayed, you may not be able to participate in the event.
  • In order to ensure that all fans meet all of the players, special greeting videos may not be recorded at the Training Facility.
  • Entrance to the Training Facility will be granted only after a full security check. Each participant will need to present their Teudat Tzehut ID Card, License or Passport in order to take part in the event. Entrance will not be granted to those whose names do not appear on the official registration list!

International U19 Winter Tournament: Day One Summary

The first day of the U19 International Winter Tournament got underway with three matches as Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv was the only club to record a victory defeating Beitar Jerusalem 2:1.

Hapoel Beer Sheva 1:1 Excelsior Rotterdam. The Dutch side were first to find the back of the goal thanks to Ankori Erduan while Ilay Ben Shitrit drew Beer Sheva even from the penalty spot.

Winter Tournament: Maccabi “Shachar” defeats Beitar Jerusalem 2:1

Maccabi Tel Aviv began the U19 International Winter Tournament on the right foot at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom. Guy Tzarfati’s side defeated Beitar Jerusalem 2:1 in the competition’s first game over the next three days.

After a goalless first half, Beitar grabbed the lead in the opening minute of the second half when they took advantage of a turnover in the midfield to beat Daniel Peretz. Tzarfati made some wholesale changes on the pitch inserting Eduardo Guerrero and Bar Cohen as the former scored in the 42’ to draw Maccabi even at 1:1. Just four minutes later Eden Kartzev found the back of the goal from 24 meters to give the Yellow & Blue a 2:1 advantage.

Beitar was handed a penalty in the last minute of the match but Roie Fadida’s spot kick missed the mark as Tzarfati’s squad recorded the win. On Friday Maccabi will face Hapoel Beer Sheva (11:00) and Maccabi Haifa (13:30).

After the success of last season’s International Youth Tournament, Maccabi Tel Aviv is proud to host the competition for the second straight season. The tournament will once again be held at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom and will include Crystal Palace and S.B.V. Excelsior Rotterdam. In addition, Maccabi Haifa, Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Beer Sheva will take part in the Tournament that will take place between January 24-26.

Last season’s edition was won by the Club’s Under-19 team, Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv as they competed against top European clubs including: Bayer Leverkusen, Red Star Paris, Maccabi Haifa, Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Rishon Le’Zion.

The competition will feature a single group consisting of all 6 teams. The matches will be held in a league format with two 30 minute halves while every club will play each other once. After each side has faced each other, the team in first place will be crowned the tournament champion. All matches will be played according to the rules and regulations of FIFA and the IFA.

Maccabi Tel Aviv will host the tournament at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom. The matches will be played on two pitches: The Main Pitch and the Synthetic Pitch.

Matchdays 21-25 Fixtures published

The Football League Administration published the fixtures for Matchday 21-25 today, Tuesday and the Israel Football Administration set the State Cup quarterfinal dates for the two legged tie against Bnei Sakhnin. The first match will take place on February 6th at Sakhnin (21:00) while the return leg will occur on February 26th in Netanya at 20:45.

Maccabi “Shachar” falls to Sakhnin 1:0

The Under-16 side met Bnei Sakhnin on Matchday 16 of the Israel Youth Premier League. The young Yellow & Blue entered the contest in 2nd place just 3 points off the top of the table while Sakhnin began the day in 6th place.

Starting XI: Or Itzhak, Michael Chilaka, Alon Shtrozberg, Amit Glezer, Tomer Mahluf, Tamir Glezer, Omri Ram, Ido Shahar, Eduardo Guerrero, Bar Cohen, Eyal Hen.

First Half
Muhamed Khalila had a half chance in the 8’ when he crossed the ball into the box from the left side but Itzhak made the stop. In the 25’ Maccabi had an opportunity when Guerrero took a through ball but couldn’t control it as it went out. Itzhak then took care of a corner kick from Sakhnin while in the 39’ Tamir Glezer’s header went out. However, in the 42’ Sakhnin took the lead when Itzhak and the Sakhnin striker went for the ball in the box off a corner as it fell to Salah Nagar who out it behind the Yellow & Blue keeper for a 1:0 advantage.

Second Half
In the 49’ Itzhak made a stop for Maccabi and five minutes later Sakhnin had another chance when Muhamed Khalila took a through ball and went one on one with Itzhak but again he was up to the task. Gil Ben Shalosh who had come on a substitute almost drew Maccabi even in the 60’ when he received a ball from Shahar but his chance just skipped by the post. The remainder of the match was played primarily in the midfield as Sakhnin time and time again stymied the Yellow & Blue attack as they took the 1:0 win.

Hapoel Hadera Ticket Sales Away Match

Maccabi Tel Aviv visits Hapoel Hadera on Monday night (21:00) January 28th on Matchday 20 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika. Tickets are on sale via the Leaan Ticket Agency Website, telephone *8780 and the Leaan Ticket Office located at Frishman 42, Tel Aviv.

Please Note: This match is part of the Points Allocation System and season ticket holders will receive 3 points for this contest while non-season ticket holders will receive 1.5 point. Make sure that when tickets are purchased via the Leaan Website, telephone or Leaan Ticket Office the season ticket number is used in order to receive full points. Should the purchase not be done by using the season ticket number points will not be allocated.

Should a ticket be purchased and the fan doesn’t attend the match, there will be no refunds and no points will be allocated.

Maccabi Tel Aviv got back on the winning track in league action last night with a 1:0 win over Beitar Jerusalem. This was Vladimir Ivic’s squad’s 4th victory in as many matches against Beitar this season.

This is only the third time in history that Maccabi defeated Beitar 4 times in a season across all competitions. The first time was in 2002/03 when they won 4 of 6 matches and again in 2005/06 when they won 4 of 5 matches.

This was the first time in league play this season that Maccabi won 1:0 and it was the first time since they defeated Beitar in Toto Cup back in January by 1:0.

Maccabi has broken a number of club records this season and they added another one to the list against Beitar. By accumulating 49 points in 19 Matchdays, the Yellow & Blue broke the 47 point plateau which had been done 4 times previously in 1992, 1994, 1996 and 2014.

Maccabi continued their terrific season at the Netanya Stadium with their 6th straight home victory and 8th out of 9 contests.

The Yellow & Blue increased their lead atop the table to 18 points which is larger than the gap if 16 points between the 2nd place side and the bottom of the table.

Although Maccabi found the back of the goal only once they had 21 attempts towards the Beitar goal as well as 3 balls that hit the post.

Predrag Rajkovic made a huge save on Yossi Benayoun in injury time and kept a clean sheet for the 9th time this season in league play. He has blanked the opposition 14 times across all competitions.

To date the Serbian shot stopper has conceded only 10 goals in league action which means he takes the ball out from the back of his goal only once every 171 minutes. Not bad.

After scoring his first goal of the season in the win over Maccabi Netanya, Dor Micha stayed hot and scored for the second match in a row after he found the back of the goal against Hapoel Acre in State Cup play.

Micha has 3 goals in his last 4 matches while also recording one assist during that time.
