Change of Date: Hanukkah Happening moved to Monday

Due to the rain expected in Thursday’s weather forecast, the Hanukkah Happening has been moved to Monday December 10th. We hope that you haven’t made plans, because the Hanukkah Tradition continues this year at Kiryat Shalom where parents and children can visit the training facility and play on the activities set up on the synthetic pitch. You’ll also be able to meet the Maccabi stars face to face, get autographs and take pictures with all of your heroes.

The event will begin at 15:00 and fans must be at the facility by 14:30. Registration opens today, Wednesday and is limited to 600 people. Please note, you will not be able to attend if you do not register in advance.

How does it work?
Registration is open today Thursday November 29th to all Maccabi FIRST members for the Community Day on Monday December 10th at 15:00 at the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility, 106 Derech Ben Tzvi and is limited to 600 participants ONLY.
Each person may register up to 3 participants which includes the person submitting the registration. Just like when you make a reservation at a restaurant, you request a table for yourself plus 2 friends for a total of 3 ONLY.
IMPORTANT:
• Following the registration, you’ll receive an email requesting information about the participants.
• If weather conditions don’t permit the Community Day to take place, you will be notified a few hours prior to the event and you’ll be able to participate in the Community Day the following month.
• All participants must arrive at the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility by 14:30. Should you be delayed, you may not be able to participate in the event.
• In order to ensure that all fans meet all of the players, special greeting videos may not be recorded at the Training Facility.
• Following your registration, a Maccabi representative will be in touch with you to get all of the participants necessary details.
Entrance to the Training Facility will be granted only after a full security check. Each participant will need to present their Teudat Tzehut ID Card, License or Passport in order to take part in the event. Entrance will not be granted to those whose names do not appear on the official registration list!
Participants are not allowed to bring with professional photographers or videographers.

Tzarfati: “Winners have to know how to fall and feel pain”

The Club’s Under-19 team, Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv were eliminated from the UEFA Youth Champions League competition following a 2:2 draw with Sigma Olomouc. The two legged tie ended in a 3:3 aggregate score but the Czech side advanced on Ayla goals to the next round. Following the contest, Head Coach Guy Tzarfati summed up his squad’s performance in the tournament:

“After we ended the first leg in the Czech Republic 1:1 we knew that we couldn’t give up a goal at home and we paid the price when they drew 2:2 with us. We still had a pair of chances to score and advance, but that’s football. We didn’t lose, but the result didn’t help us move on in the competition. I’m happy with the players performance and the level of our club Maccabi Tel Aviv shucks operates at the highest levels. Our team was the youngest in Europe and I’m proud as to how we performed. Footballers and winners have to know how to fall and feel the pain. But we’ll now turn our sights on the Israeli league on Saturday.”

Disappointment:
“We’re very disappointed and this is how it should be. I’m disappointed and I won’t sleep well tonight but true winners and football clubs must know how to feel the pain of defeat. This type of loss, even though we didn’t lose on the pitch is tough we we have to know how to raise our spirits and get ready for League play.”

Looking towards the future:
“I think this was a mental lapse and the players hadn’t yet experienced this type of situation being in the Champions League. We felt like we had advanced and we were close, so the disappointment is even more bitter. But the players will have to learn how to deal with it if they want to one day play for the first team. Unfortunately, it happened today but hopefully in the future this will help them in the future.”

After a dramatic battle: Maccabi “Shachar” eliminated from the Youth Champions League

Head Coach Guy Tzarfati’s Starting XI included keeper Or Itzhak, Michael Chilaka, Alon Shtrozberg, Amit Glazer, Tomer Mahluf, Ido Shahar, Mufleh Shalata, Yoav Hofmayster, Eduardo Guerrero, Eden Kartzev and Eyal Hen.

First Half
The visitor’s had the first chance of the match when a Michal Galus free kick found Jiri Kratochvil but his header went out, while a minute later Ondrej Zmrzly’s 18 meter attempt went by the post. The Yellow & Blue had their first opportunity in the 10’ when Shalata went down the right wing and sent a quality cross into the box, but the Sigma keeper Jakob Trefil caught the ball.

Hen had a 22’ attempt that went by the post for Maccabi while Daniel Grecmal almost found the back of the Yellow & Blue goal three minutes later following a Sigma corner. In the 26’ Shahar’s 18 meter attempt also went just wide of the post and five minutes before the break Shtrozberg tried to head the ball into the Sigma goal off a corner but Trefil made the save sending the match into the break goalless.

Second Half
With each side looking for a goal early on in the half, Sigma struck first as their captain Pavel Zifcak headed in a goal off a cross into the box to give the visitor’s a 1:0 advantage in the 51’. Maccabi didn’t get down after the goal and seven minutes later found the equalizer. Mahluf made his way into the area and sent a perfect pass to the central defender Shtrozberg who scored from 8 meters out to draw even at 1:1.

In the 68’ Shahar’s attempt was saved by the Sigma keeper and a minute later Yagudaev stole the ball but put it off the outside netting of the goal. The Yellow & Blue continued to press and in the 73’ Maccabi took a 2:1 lead when Bar Cohen sent a tremendous pass that Guerrero put home after going one on one with the Czech keeper to go up by one. However, Sigma found the equalizer in the 77’ when Zmrzly scored off a cross, 2:2.

Tzarfati’s squad looked for a go ahead goal and in the 86’ they almost found it but Glazer’s header missed the target and Cohen’s huge opportunity in injury time was taken care of by the keeper as Sigma Olomouc advanced to the next round of the UEFA Youth Champions League on away goals.

HISENSE FIFA Tournament gets underway

And that’s not all. The second and third place pairs will attend a Maccabi Tel Aviv match in the HISENSE Box.

How does it work?
– Register to take part in the Doubles Tournament on December 5-6 at LVL UP Yad Harutzim 14, Tel Aviv.
– Registration for the Tournament is limited to 120 players and there is no fee.
– The winners of each day of the tournament will advance to the Final on December 9th at the HISENSE Flagship Store on Kibbutz Galuyot 47, Tel Aviv.
– The winners of the Final will take home a 50” GAMING TV and a chance to play Omer Atzili and Maor Kandil in the Champions Cup match.

Final Preparations: Maccabi “Shachar” awaits Sigma

Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv is preparing in earnest for Wednesday’s contest (17:00) against Czech side Sigma Olomouc in the return leg of second round Youth Champions League play. The match will be held at Ramle Stadium and although there is no charge for entrance, every fan must have a ticket to enter the facility which can be picked up at the north ticket windows.

Guy Tzarfati’s Under-19 squad was then drawn against Sigma Olomouc in the second round and drew 1:1 in the Czech Republic. The host’s took a 1:0 lead in the 68’ while Shalata found the equalizer in the 87’ as he made his way by three defenders and found the back of the goal from 13 meters.

Tzarfati spoke about his club’s upcoming match:
“We have been preparing for this match as we always do for every game, from the players to the staff. But we’ve also put an emphasis on the tactical side of the game.”

Advancing to the next round:
“We know that a goalless draw will be enough for us to advance but we are preparing for a match that will have goals and we are taking that into account. The most important thing in these types of matches is to come with a lot of confidence and not to think about the result in the first leg, but with the goal of advancing to the next stage.”

Adrenaline pumping:
“I don’t think that the right word is excitement but readiness. The players have paid attention to us from the tactical side and the mental side of the game. I’m sure that as the contest approaches the adrenaline will really start pumping and that’s how it’s supposed to be.”

Maccabi’s future on display:
“I want to send a message to all of the Maccabi fans to come out and support us and come see the young players. It’s a chance to see that there is a future for the young Israeli player, especially those at Maccabi Tel Aviv. I’d be happy to see the fans come out and watch us, I hope to see everyone in Ramle.”

This will be the team’s first official match since going on break nearly three weeks ago as they will look to advance to the Playoff Round of the competition. Should they move on, Maccabi “Shachar” would be drawn against a team that finished in 2nd place of the tournament’s group stages with the potential to face one of the well known teams from Europe.

Just before Chanukah: The players visit Dana Children’s Hospital

Just ahead of the Chanukah Holiday and right before the club gets back to league action, six Maccabi Tel Aviv players made sure to find time to do some good deeds. Avi Rikan, Eliran Atar, Eyal Golasa, Dor Micha, Yonatan Cohen and Omer Atzily arrived at the “Dana” Children’s Hospital and met with the children and their families before the Holiday.

Yonatan Cohen spoke about visiting the hospital:
“It’s great that we have the opportunity to bring joy and put a smile on the children’s faces. That’s the most important thing as it puts a lot of things into proportion. Any time that there’s an opportunity to do this, I’m happy to be involved.”

About this Saturday’s match against Maccabi Petah Tikva:
“Every match that we play isn’t easy and we always prepare properly as the staff makes sure that we are ready to go.”

The players met with many children throughout the corridors of the hospital and handed out Maccabi shirts, driedels and chocolate money. They also took pictures and spoke to the families giving them strength during their difficult times.

Maccabi Girls Team advances to State Cup Round of 16

For the first time this season, the club has a girls team that is playing in a competitive league. Head Coach Mor Shaked has already had her side play a number of matches this season and on Sunday the squad made history by participating in the State Cup tournament.

The Yellow & Blue hosted Hapoel Beer Sheva’s girls team at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom and won by the score of 12:4. Shaked summed up the contest: “This was our first State Cup match and the team played well using different plays we had worked on in training. They played for each other and controlled the pace of play for the majority of the match. We still have a ways to go but we will continue to work hard to be able to play better and better. Now it’s on to the next match.”

Friendly: Maccabi defeats the Israel Under-21’s 3:1

Maccabi Tel Aviv returned to action as they defeated the Under-21 Israel National Team 3:1 at the Raanana Stadium. The match took place roughly a week before the Yellow & Blue returned to League action against Maccabi Petah Tikva as Vladimir Ivic’s squad took home the win over Marko Balbul’s team.

Maccabi used the match to give minutes to many of the players and to keep them in game shape over the course of the 3 week break. The Yellow & Blue took control of the contest but it was the Under-21 Israel National Team that scored first as Omer Lakau found the back of the goal in the 23’. Five minutes before the break, Maccabi found the equalizer via Aaron Schoenfeld who scored off a perfect free kick by Eliran Atar.

In the 76’ Maccabi took the lead thanks to Avi Rikan who put home another Atar assist this time behind Haviv Ohayon who played a half for each team. Dor Micha made it 3:1 in the 90’ with a shot from 14 meters that went into the far corner of the goal.

Yonatan Cohen signs long term deal

Yonatan Cohen committed his future to the club as the talented 22 year-old winger signed a new 3.5-year-deal which will keep him at Maccabi Tel Aviv until the end of the 2021/2022 season.

Cohen, a product of Maccabi’s Youth Department scored twice in five appearances this season, grabbing both during the 4-1 derby victory over Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Toto Cup.

Cohen scored on his senior debut for the Club finding the net in a 2-0 victory over Albanian side KF Tirana in a Europa League qualifier at Netanya on June 2017. He made five more appearances in European qualifiers and the Toto Cup before returning for another loan spell at Bnei Yehuda for which he scored 8 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions. 

Cohen played a pivotal role in Bnei Yehuda’s Cup winning season of 2016/17 as he scored 9 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions including successfully converting a penalty in the shoot-out against Maccabi in the final.  In August 2015, Cohen made his senior debut whilst on loan at Beitar Tel Aviv Ramle and scored a total of 13 goals in 38 league and cup appearances. The Israel Under 21 international who scored twice in seven appearances, has an impressive record for Maccabi’s youth team for which he scored a total of 31 goals in 59 appearances.

Cohen told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to sign a new long term deal at the club I grew up at from a young age. The burden of proof is now on me to justify the faith shown in me”.

Maccabi CEO, Ben Mansford added: “It always gives me great pleasure to announce that another Maccabi Academy Graduate commits his long term future to the Club. This signing gives me even more pleasure as it involves a young man that has showed real character and professionalism in wanting to stay and earn his place in this new look squad. Yoni made it clear from very early in pre-season that he wanted to be part of Vladimir Ivic’s squad this season and that he wanted his long term future to be in the yellow of Maccabi. Despite not playing as much as he may like, he has continued to show the spirit of Maccabism and push his team mates all the way. Yoni is determined to leave the yellow shirt in a better place and therefore securing him as a footballer and person for the next 3 and a half years is very important. I believe Yoni will play a huge part in what Maccabi seeks to achieve in the years to come”.
