Under-17 National Team advances to Elite Round with 5 Maccabi Representatives

The Under-17 Israel National Team opened their European Championship Qualifying campaign in Macedonia. Five Yellow & Blue representatives are with the team in the tournament.

Gary Brumer’s squad defeated the Faroe Islands 6:0 on Saturday and Tuesday they took care of the host’s Macedonia 4:1 as Tal Torgeman scored a brace. The two wins ensured that the Blue & White will play in the Elite Round ahead of the European Championships. On Friday they’ll play Spain for first place in the group.

Maccabi Tel Aviv representatives:
Keeper: Ben Moasayof
Defenders: Shachar Rosen, Itay Ben Hemo
Midfielders: Niv Berkovic
Strikers: Tal Torgeman

Three Maccabi players were in the Starting XI for Israel against Macedonia: Moasayof, Ben Hemo and Shachar Rosen who all played 90 minutes. At the start of the second half Berkovic joined them while Torgeman was introduced in the 63’ giving him enough time to complete a brace in the 4:1 win.

As part of the club’s efforts to reach fans and communities outside the center of the country, Maccabi Tel Aviv headed for Nahariya today, Tuesday afternoon where they held an open training session for more than 600 fans. The attendees showered the Yellow & Blue stars with much love and adoration as the football celebration included the players kicking balls to the fans after practice, autographs and photos. A good time was had by all!

Final Preparations: Maccabi “Shachar” & Anzhi

The Under-19 team, Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv will play Anzhi Makhachkala in the second leg of first round UEFA Youth Champions League action on Wednesday 17:00 Israel time at the Ramle Stadium. After falling 3:2 in Russia, Guy Tzarfati’s squad will look to use their positive momentum and advance to the next round where they would face the winner between Maribor from Slovenia or Sigma Olomouc of the Czech Republic.

So far in Israel Youth Premier League action, Maccabi has a record of 5 wins, 3 draws and no losses, good for second place on the table and in fact the only defeat the U19’s have had this season was to Anzhi. The Yellow & Blue will look to advance to the second round with a victory over the Russians on Wednesday.

Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv 2:1 Hapoel Raanana 2:1 (U19)
Just ahead of the return leg in UEFA Youth Champions League action against Anzhi Makhachkala on Wednesday, the Under-19 side defeated Hapoel Raanana on Matchday 8 of the Israel Youth Premier League. Eduardo Guerrero scored a late brace (82’ + 90’) thanks to assists by Omri Ram to move into second place and just one point off the top of the table Maccabi Petah Tikva. Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv 2:1 Ashdod (U16)
The Under-16 squad handed first place Ashdod their first loss of the season on Matchday 8. An Or Halevy goal and an own goal gave Eran Sassi’s side the win as he summed up the contest: “This was a good team effort with a lot of intensity, fight and cooperation between the players up front that gave us the chance to take a 2:0 lead. We gave up a goal during a ten minute period where we disappeared on the pitch but we made a number of substitutions and we took control of the game once more. When Ashdod tried everything they had, we played well on defense and we didn’t give them any opportunities to score.”

Maccabi “Eldad” Tel Aviv 2:1 Maccabi Haifa (U15)
The Under-15 team picked up the victory on Matchday 6 against Haifa as Ori David’s squad recorded the win thanks to goals by Oral Bahia and Oskar Gluch. “This wasn’t our best match but we still controlled the pace of play and we were very dangerous. We scored two nice goals and it’s always best when we can make some changes and work on things after a victory. I’m very proud of the guys.”

Tzarfati: “It’s possible, we can advance”

After an important win in league action against Hapoel Raanana, Maccabi “Shachar”will turn their focus on their upcoming UEFA Youth Champions League contest with Anzhi Makhachkala. The Yellow & Blue will face the Russian outfit in the second leg of first round action after falling 3:2 in the first leg on Wednesday. The winner of the tie will play the winner of the matchup between Maribor from Slovenia and Sigma Olomouc of the Czech Republic. Head Coach Guy Tzarfati looked ahead to the clash after the win over Raanana:

“To defeat Raanana in a comeback at the end of the match showed a lot of character and the type of players we have in the dressing room. It’s great that we were able to win the match and the feeling is great which is what I want the players to take into the Champions League contest on Wednesday.”

About the upcoming match:
“We haven’t concentrated yet on the match as we had league games but now we have a few days to prepare and get ready. We played well in the first leg, scored a couple of goals and created many chances. We made some mistakes that cost us and in these types of competitions you can’t make those mistakes. We have another match that we can make amends and when we left after the first leg we felt that we have a chance. We played well and the character that we brought will hopefully help us win the upcoming contest and that we can advance.”

Knockout contest:
“The players and staff all understand what a knock out match is and we are only concentrating on continuing on and winning the match. Many times a team takes advantage of the feeling of a win or go home match and do their utmost to continue on. Hopefully we’ll be able to do that as I believe in the players.”

Celebration:
“This is a celebration for the whole club and for the Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Academy. There will be many fans and parents who will come and see the match and I hope that they will create a fantastic atmosphere. This will give the players and staff a huge boost and I can’t wait to see everyone on Wednesday.”

The match against Hadera was the Predrag Rajkovic’s 3rd clean sheet in a row. Maccabi has given up the least amount of goals in league play (3) together with Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Jair Amador has started the last three matches as well since coming back from injury.

Maccabi was very active in the Hadera half of the pitch and took 19 attempts towards the goal compared to 6 by the visitor’s.

The defensive minded players also took part in the attack as Dor Peretz led the team in shots with 4. Enric Saborit, Omer Atzily and Chico Ofoedu each had three.

Saborit’s nice touch on his goal was the Spaniard’s first with Maccabi.

Chico’s brace brings his league total to 3 goals so far this campaign and is tied with Itay Shechter for the Maccabi team lead.

In the assist category, Shechter and Peretz each had one helper a piece in the contest raising their season total to 2 each along with Eli Dasa and 8 other players. Dor Micha has 4 assists and leads the league.

Maccabi has 11 assists in total so far this season – the most in the league. Hadera and Bnei Sakhnin are second with 6 each.

According to the league, Chico Ofoedu was the fastest player going 32.4kph. Omer Atzily was right behind him with a speed of 32.3kph while Eli Dasa clocked in at 31.9.

Up until their match against Maccabi, Hadera had run more than their opponents in 5 out of 6 contests. However, the Yellow & Blue Ran 107.9 km compared to the visitor’s 103.6 km in their top of the table clash.

Eyal Golasa led the way with 11.5 km while Peretz (10.6) and Dasa (10.2) came in second and third.

Maccabi Tel Aviv will play Hapoel Haifa on Matchday 8 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika on Sunday October 28th, 20:30 at Sammy Ofer Stadium. Tickets are now on sale so come cheer on the Yellow & Blue.

Please Note: This match is part of the Points Allocation System and season ticket holders will receive 2 points for this contest while non-season ticket holders will receive 1 point. Make sure that when tickets are purchased via the Leaan Website, telephone or Leaan Ticket Office the season ticket number is used in order to receive full points. Should the purchase not be done by using the season ticket number points will not be allocated.

Should a ticket be purchased and the fan doesn’t attend the match, there will be no refunds and no points will be allocated.

Golasa: “I’m happy that we were able to show that we are Maccabi Tel Aviv”

Eyal Golasa, the Yellow & Blue midfielder scored the 3rd goal in a 4:0 win over Hapoel Hadera to take over first place on Matchday 7 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika:

“When you’re required to play more of an attacking role it gives you more confidence and it helps influence the game. Last season I played more of a defensive role and I couldn’t just go wherever I wanted to. I’m happy that I can play more of an offensive role.”

On the attack:
“I know that it adds a lot to play more of attacking role, but when you are playing as the defensive midfielder you can’t just attack every time the team goes on the offensive. Today I played with Dor Peretz and each one of us had to go on the attack. We have to continue this way.”

The goal to play well:
“I want to be able to dominate and help the club both offensively and defensively and every goal is a bonus. Of course I want to score and assist but my objective is to be good and show that Eyal Golasa is on the pitch.”

Rapport with Itay Shechter:
“I have an excellent rapport with him and we understand each other very well. Of course I have a good relationship with all of attacking players on the pitch and I’m happy about that.”

The desire and hunger to succeed:
“It’s easy for you to see that because you can see it from the stands, but there’s certainly a change and the players have a desire and hunger to succeed and you can see that. This was a top of the table match but not a “Match of the Season”. Hadera had a good start to the season but I’m happy that we were able to show everyone that we are Maccabi Tel Aviv.”

Ofoedu: “I’m happy to have the opportunity to fight for the team”

Chico Ofoedu, Maccabi Tel Aviv’s striker who scored a brace in the 4:0 win over Hapoel Hadera looked back at the win, adapting to his new team and fighting for a place on the pitch:

“Maccabi is a big club and the players are top players so everyone fights for a position and perform on the field of play. I’m happy that I was given the opportunity to fight for the team and not just for myself but for the team.”

Adapting to Maccabi and Israel:
“I’ve learnt quite a lot about the team, the players and the coach as well as the language which is important especially when you are in a new environment and country where you don’t understand. You have to adapt to the people around you and I’m adapting as I am getting used to the food, language and lifestyle which is quite different”
