Maccabi downs Hapoel Haifa 3:1

Maccabi Tel Aviv took home the three points and the win in a 3:1 victory over Hapoel Haifa on Matchday 8 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika. First half goals by Omer Atzily and Avi Rikan along with a second half marker by Dor Peretz helped the Yellow & Blue to the win. Risto Mitrvesky pulled a late goal back for the host’s. Next Saturday (20:30) Vladimir Ivic’s squad will host Bnei Sakhnin at the Netanya Stadium.

Head Coach Vladimir Ivic’s Starting XI included keeper Predrag Rajkovic, Enric Saborit, Sheran Yeini (c), Shahar Piven, Maor Kandil, Dor Peretz, Avi Rikan, Eyal Golasa, Omer Atzily, Dor Micha and Itay Shechter.

First Half
The match opened up in fine fashion for Maccabi as the Yellow & Blue took a quick 1:0 lead in the 2’. Shechter stole the ball and sent it to Rikan but the Haifa keeper Setkus made the initial save, however, Golasa took the rebound and left it for Atzily who put it into the goal.

In the 10’ Maccabi almost doubled their advantage when Golasa found Atzily who in turn handed the ball off to Shechter, but his attempt just missed the goal. Nine minutes later Roie Shukrani had the host’s first chance but his attempt from 20’ meter went over the bar. In the 25’ Peretz stole the ball and sent it to Rikan but his opportunity was taken care of by Setkus while 14 minutes later the aforementioned Rikan was issued a yellow card.

But Rikan wasn’t done yet in the half as the midfielder took advantage of a Setkus mistake just before the break by stealing the ball in the box and sent it behind the keeper for a 2:0 lead after 45 minutes.

Second Half
Rikan almost scored his second goal of the game in the 48’ but his 16 meter attempt just whistled by the post while 4 minutes later Golasa came up empty from 18 meters after taking a brilliant ball from Micha. Ivic made his first substitute in the 62’ when Dan Glazer was introduced for Rikan.

In the 68’ Eliran Atar came on for Atzily and a minute later, Atar sent a corner kick into the box to Peretz but his header missed the target. As the match hit the 78’ Shechter had a wonderful chance when he went one on one with the keeper but Setkus was up to the task yet again, but a minute later Peretz headed in a brilliant cross by Micha for a 3:0 Maccabi lead.

Aaron Schoenfeld came into the contest in the 82’ for Shechter. I Haifa pulled a late goal back by Risto Mitrevsky off a Gili Vermouth free kick as Maccabi wrapped up a tidy 3:1 win. Next Saturday (20:30) the Yellow & Blue will host Bnei Sakhnin at the Netanya Stadium.

Maccabi “Shachar” & Hapoel Beer Sheva draw 1:1

After last week’s 90’ victory over Hapoel Raanana as well as advancing to the second round of UEFA Youth League action, Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv visited Hapoel Beer Sheva on Matchday 9.

Head Coach Guy Tzarfati’s Starting XI: Or Itzhak, Michael Chilaka, Amit Glazer, Alon Shtrozberg, Yoav Hofmayster, Tamir Glazer (Ido Shahar 66’), Omri Ram (Mufleh Shalata 54’), Nadav Nidam, Eduardo Guerrero, Omer Barami (Bar Cohen 61’) Tal Yagudaev (Rave Assayag 54’)

First Half
In the 2’ Beer Sheva’s Roie Avitan took the ball in the middle pitch but his weak long distance shot went out, while two minutes later the host’s again threatened the Maccabi goal when Noam Dia’s chance missed the target. In the 7’ Ilay Trost’s opportunity from the top of the box was taken care of by Yellow & Blue keeper Or Itzhak as Beer Sheva kept applying pressure.

Amit Glazer sent a through ball to Guerrero but his chance was taken care of by Beer Sheva’s Ron Weizman for Maccabi’s first attempt of the contest while a minute later Guerrero’s second opportunity went out. However, in the 16’ the host’s took a 1:0 lead when Bruno passed the ball to Avitan who put it behind Itzhak for the advantage.

In the 25’ Beer Sheva’s Dia sent the ball to Bruno but his shot went out while a minute later, Ram crossed the ball into the box from the right but Guerrero’s aerial chance missed the target. Maccabi almost found the equalizer in the 33’ but Glazer’s attempt couldn’t find the back of the goal and four minutes later Trost’s long distance opportunity was saved by Itzhak as the host’s went into the break holding a slim 1:0 lead.

Second Half
Maccabi had their first chance of the half when Shalata’s shot went over the bar as the Yellow & Blue began to take control of the match. In the 69’ Cohen sent the ball to Guerrero in the box, but the latter’s chance went out for a corner after going off of a Beer Sheva defender. Two minutes later Shahar’s chance from 20 meters went over the goal but finally in the 77’ Tzarfati’s side’s hard work paid off.

Cohen’s free kick found Guerrero’s head as the Panamanian striker scored to help Maccabi draw even, 1:1. Beer Sheva tried to retake the lead in the 81’ but Amit Glazer made the defensive stop to keep the score as is. Five minutes later, the active Guerrero sent a brilliant cross to Assayag but he couldn’t get a good handle on the ball as it went out.

In the 88’ Cohen took the ball in the middle of the box but his shot was taken care of by Weizman who saved a goal as the two squads split the points in a 1:1 draw.

Hapoel Beer Sheva – Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv, 12:00 Wassermil Stadium (U19)
After advancing to the second round of the UEFA Youth Champions League, the Under-19 team returns to domestic action when they visit Hapoel Beer Sheva on Matchday 9 of the Israel Premier League. The young Yellow & Blue are currently in 2nd place just one point off of first place Maccabi Petah Tikva while the host’s are in 3rd place after falling last week.

Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv (U17) are on break due to the European Championship qualifiers as Eliezer Ben Aharon’s side has 5 representatives who have helped the Blue & White in advancing to the Elite Round.

Hapoel Nir Ramat Hasharon – Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv, 10:00 Ramat Hasharon Synthetic (U16)
The Under-16 squad will look to continue their winning streak after last week’s victory over the top of the table team. Eran Sassi’s 6th place side will visit 14th place Ramat Hasharon on Matchday 9.

Hapoel Beer Sheva – Maccabi “Eldad” Tel Aviv, 9:45 Wassermil Stadium (U15)
After last week’s win over Maccabi Haifa, the Under-15 squad visits Hapoel Beer Sheva on Matchday 7. Should the young Yellow & Blue take the victory they will move into 1st place while the host’s currently sit in 4th.

Rikan: “We are focusing on ourselves”

Ahead of Sunday night’s (20:30) contest at Hapoel Haifa, Avi Rikan addressed the media at the prematch press conference at the PenguinPickUp Training Facility at Kiryat Shalom:

“I understand that the club is going through a coaching change, but we are just focusing on ourselves. The matches against them are always tough and we have to be ready. Their situation doesn’t interest us much and they will attempt to take points.”

More about the upcoming clash:
“We are dependent on our own play and that’s for every match. If we play the way we should we will take the points against anyone. This is a very tough match but we are confident that we will take the win.”

Looking back at the Hadera match:
“We only relaxed once the referee blew the final whistle and immediately after the game we began preparing for Hapoel Haifa. We feel good about moving into first place; hopefully we can stay there.”

This season’s versus last season’s squad:
“Maccabi has been good in prior seasons and after losing the championship the past three campaigns we want to improve and take the points. The staff has us playing aggressive football and this season like in the past the training sessions are very intensive and we push each other in order to continue to improve.”

Relationship with the professional staff:
“The professional staff gives us instructions and the players are responsible for performing them. We are professionals and we do what they need us to in the matches in order for us to get good results.”

About the squad:
“Maccabi has quality squad which is deep and the players want to prove they have a place on the pitch at every training session. Every match has it’s own specific demands and every player gets a chance and will get a chance in the future as well which allows us to be very well prepared for each and every match. We are professionals and we have a long season ahead of us where we understand that we may be called upon at any moment.”

Ivic: “We will do everything to take the points”

Vladimir Ivic, the Yellow & Blue Head Coach looked ahead to Sunday night’s (20:30) clash against Hapoel Haifa at Sammy Ofer Stadium on Matchday 8 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika:

“We are thinking about ourselves and our job is to improve and be ready for our game on Sunday night. This is not a simple opponent and over the past number of seasons we haven’t had good results at Sammy Ofer Stadium. Usually when there is a coaching change the players want to prove that they belong. It’s not good for us but this is normal in football. We will continue on our way and we will do everything to take the points.”

About the fan support:
“I don’t read the newspapers and websites so I don’t know about this. We have to work hard and show quality so the fans will enjoy. That’s our job in every match and we have to continue to improve, advance and I’m sure that this will convince the fans to continue to support us.”

The squad for Sunday’s match:
“We have a few issues and some are due to injuries. Tomorrow we will know who will be able to play.”

The fitness aspect compared to last season:
“It’s not right for me to talk about past seasons. At the beginning of this season we had many players who came back from being on loan with other clubs and we saw their quality. These players want to work hard and play. It’s difficult because there is no way that we can fine everyone a chance. I’m sure that there are players who can be on the pitch who are outside of the 18 players in the squad and this is something good for me. We have a long road ahead and I’m sure that everyone will have a chance to play and to show us their abilities.”

About the Under-19 team advancing to the second round of the UEFA Youth Champions League:
“It was a good game. Maccabi has good young players who work hard. This is something very positive for the future. I’ve watched a number of their games, but I think it’s too early for them to join us as I’m familiar with this age. In the past I worked with these ages and to help them be able to advance to the first team. They have plenty of preparation ahead of them and hard work to go. We are following their progress.”

Transfer News: Change of Location – Cinema City Store

Maccabi Tel Aviv will have a new location in Cinema City Rishon Le’Zion which will replace the old store in the shopping center as a part of the plans which will ultimately culminate in the opening of a new flagship store for the Club.

The new store will open for business on 1 November and is situated right next to the Giraffe Restaurant and Urbanica near the main entrance to the shopping center. You’ll be able to enjoy onsite Jersey printing, plenty of fan favorite items and the official brand new winter collection. If you visit the new location on the weekend of November 2-3 you’ll get a free gift courtesy of Maccabi for all purchases over 49 NIS.

Due to the relocation the current store location will be closed from 27 October.

Normal Store Opening Hours: Sunday-Thursday, Saturday 10:00-22:00, Friday 10:00-15:00.

Tzarfati: “The players deserve to celebrate today”

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Under-19 team advanced to the UEFA Youth Champions League second round after defeating Anzhi Makhachkala 3:0 in the second leg to take the two legged tie on aggregate 5:3. Head Coach Guy Tzarfati summed up the victory:

“We had many chances and we should have scored. We could have already decided the game in the first half. We were tired by the end of the match and they had a few chances but our keeper Or Itzhak did a great job. At the end of the day we showed that we had the upper hand, we advanced justifiably and deserve to celebrate today.”

About the big crowd support:
“It’s always great when we have a terrific atmosphere with plenty of fans. The players were very excited to see so many people from the Youth Academy that came to cheer them on. It shows the younger players that they have something to strive for and a stage to reach for. Hopefully this will be the first of many.”

Looking ahead:
“We have a top of the table match against Beer Sheva that we really want to win. We have a good squad and we will get ready properly for the contest. We’ll take a bit of a rest and then begin our preparations.”

The Journey Continues: Maccabi “Shachar” advances to second round of UEFA Youth Champions League

Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv advanced to the second round of UEFA Youth Champions League action after defeating Anzhi Makhachkala 3:0 in the second leg (5:3 aggregate) thanks to a hat trick by Eduardo Guerrero (7, 90, 90) and will now await the winner of Maribor and Sigma Olomouc.

Guy Tzarfati’s Starting XI: Or Itzhak, Michael Chilaka, Amit Glazer, Alon Shtrozberg, Dan Lugassi, Ido Shahar, Eduardo Guerrero, Yoav Hofmayster, Rave Assayag, Bat Cohen, Eyal Hen.

First Half
Maccabi began the match well and in the 4’ the Yellow & Blue had their first good chance of the contest when Guerrero sent the ball to Hofmayster, but his shot went off a defender. However, three minutes later Maccabi took a 1:0 lead when Hen was pulled down in the box by a Russian defender good for a penalty which Guerrero converted to give Maccabi the advantage.

In the 15’ Anzhi had their first opportunity but Itzhak made the stop while 9 minutes later Guerrero almost scored his second of the game after he made his way into the box but his attempt missed the target. In the 27’ the Yellow & Blue stole the ball as Assayag fed Hen but his chance came up empty while 11 minutes later Assayag sent another pass to Hen but the ball was just out of his reach.

As the match hit the 40’ Cohen’s opportunity missed the goal by centimeters while Shahar’s chance two minutes later was cleared by the Anzhi defense as the side’s went into the break with Maccabi holding a 1:0 lead.

Second half
In the 53’ Anzhi had a chance in the box but Gamid Agalarov’s chance went over the bar, while three minutes later Assayag once again left the ball off for Hen but his long distance attempt flew over the goal. Anzhi continued to look for the equalizer as Itzhak was up to the task to make a nice save off of Magomedov.

The match continued in a back and forth manner and in the 70’ Guerrero left the ball for Berami but his 18’ meter shot was saved by the Anzhi keeper while 6 minutes later Mufleh Shalata raced down the pitch, crossed the ball from the left to Berami but his chance couldn’t find the target.

The visitor’s almost drew even in the 86’ but Agalarov’s chance from 6 meters out hit the post. In the 90’ a Maccabi fast break ended in Guerrero’s second goal of the match when he received the ball from Tal Yagudaev and found the back of the goal from 17 meters, 2:0 Maccabi. However, the striker didn’t stop there as the Panamanian marksman took a Shalata pass to give the Under-19 squad a 3:0 win and a ticket to the next round of the competition.
