Under-15’s end Vienna Tournament in 4th place

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Under-15 team ended the International Tournament in 4th place after finishing the group stage in 2nd place thanks to a pair of victories over Schalke 04 and Ferencvárosi Budapest while falling on the first day to Admira Wacker. The 2nd place group play finish set up a 3rd place match against the competition’s host Rapid Wien. However, Yonatan Paz’s lone goal wasn’t enough in a 2:1 defeat for the Yellow & Blue as they ended in 4th place.
Admira Wacker won the tournament defeating Red Star Belgrade as Schalke 04, Ferencvárosi, AIK Stockholm and Lokomotiv Moscow all participated in the competition.


Raymond Atteveld, the Club’s Assistant to the Performance Director summed up the match and the tournament as a whole: “We played well despite losing. We had created plenty of chances but unfortunately we couldn’t score enough goals. As for the football that we played over the course of the tournament, we played well and surprised a lot of people due to the quality and quickness of our play. For that we received many compliments. The main thing was the experience that the young players were able to gain and that was the ultimate goal. This was our second season participating in the tournament and we were able to surprise people once again which means that we are continuing to improve and advance while working properly. I am proud of the guys.”

Succesful Saturday: Two wins for the U15’s in Austria

It was a very successful Saturday for Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Under-15 side at the International Tournament taking place in Vienna, Austria. Coaches Ori David and Asaf Heber squad won their two matches, beating Germany’s Schalke 04 by a 4:0 score and defeated Ferencvárosi Budapest of Hungary 3:2.

Yonatan Paz, Ori HaLevi, Elad Kaplan and Roie Revivo all scored for the young Yellow & Blue in the first match while Kaplan recorded unbrace and Itay Peles added a lone marker in the second game of the day.

Thanks to the two victories, Maccabi’s U15 squad will face Rapid Wien in the 3rd place match on Sunday.

Vienna Tournament: The Maccabi U15’s fall 4:2 to Admira Wacker

The Club’s Under-15 side played their opening match in the International U15 Tournament being held in Vienna, Austria and fell to Admira Wacker 4:2.

The young Yellow & Blue took a 1:0 lead but the Austrian outfit drew even and then took a 2:1 lead which increased to 4:1. Just before the end of the contest Maccabi scored their second goal of the match as the game ended 4:2 in favor of Admira Wacker.

Raymond Atteveld, the Club’s Assistant to the Performance Director spoke about the match: “The players learned that their European counterparts will punish them immediately following a mistake on the pitch. This is a good lesson for the future.”

The team will face Schalke 04 of Germany and Ferencvárosi Budapest on Saturday.

The Under-15 Team heads to Austria Tournament

The Club’s Under-15 team will be traveling to Austria and will take part in an international tournament in Vienna with the goal of giving teams the opportunity to play against sides that are similar in level with the chance to also learn and meet new friends from across Europe. This is considered to be one of the most important competitions for the Under-15 teams and will begin on May 25 until May 27th with the squads being split up into two groups of 4. The top team in each group will then play in the final on Sunday May 27th.

Shechter: “This is the right time to come to Maccabi; I’m ripe and hungry”

The Yellow & Blue’s newest striker Itay Shechter spoke exclusively to the Maccabi Tel Aviv Website about the challenges ahead, his goals for the upcoming season and talked about how exciting it is to join the club:

“It’s very exciting to join Maccabi Tel Aviv. I was very close to signing with the club in the past and finally here I am. Maccabi Tel Aviv is the most organized club and best club in Israeli football. I can’t wait to get onto the pitch and give it my all from the first minute until the final whistle and help bring back the titles to the club.”

Giving his best:
“I have played in some of the best leagues in the world, the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga and the French Ligue 1 and now I’m at Maccabi Tel Aviv after playing at many of the top clubs in Israel. I’m arriving in good shape and you also have to know when the right time is to come to a top club as I’m ripe and hungry. I have a lot of responsibility on my shoulders as the fans expect me to give my all. Maccabi is a huge club and one where you have to give your best as there are thousands of eyes on you. I hope I’ll be able to deal with the pressure as some of the best players thrive under those situations. I can’t wait to get going.”

Talking the talk and walking the walk:
“I have a lot of good friends at Maccabi and that’s one of the reasons why I decided to sign with the club as well as the healthy situation in the dressing room. There are also a lot of quality young players. You only hear good things about the club but as I say, you can talk all you want but at the end of the day it’s what you do on the pitch that is most important as it’s where we earn our keep.”

Winning is the name of the game:
“The most important thing is to win and even if it means I’m just handing out assists or I’m not scoring. As long as you’re winning, you can always make the necessary corrections. I’m ready to get going and put in a good and happy season with many goals and lots of wins. Yalla Maccabi!”

SHECHTER SIGNS 2-YEAR-DEAL AT MACCABI

Itay Shechter signed a two-year-deal at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Itay Shechter, joined Maccabi Tel Aviv on a free transfer from Beitar Jerusalem where he spent the last couple of seasons scoring 29 goals in 77 matches in all competitions. 

he 31-year-old forward told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to have joined such a great club in Maccabi Tel Aviv. As soon as Maccabi approached me, I knew right away that this would be my next club. After being close on so many occasions, I guess that the time has finally come to wear the Yellow and Blue shirt. I have many friends at Maccabi that I have made along the years and I can’t wait to meet them and start working on the training pitch”.

Maccabi’s CEO Ben Mansford added: “I am delighted to announce our first signing of the summer. Itay was available on a free transfer and someone that is a proven goals-corer and an experienced leader. It was important that we moved quickly to secure his signature. Itay has had a prolific last couple of seasons in the goal-scoring and assist charts. As we look to push forward next year, I believe Itay will be a significant signing for the Club through his anticipated contribution on the field and in the dressing room. I look forward to seeing him in the yellow of Maccabi on 12 July. Welcome Itay”.

Shechter made his senior debut at the age of 19 with Hapoel Nazareth Ilit in 2005/6 also played for Maccabi Netanya, Hapoel Tel Aviv, FC Kaiserslautern, Swansea City, Nantes and Maccabi Haifa also scored 5 goals in 27 appearances for the Israel national team.

Annual Shachar Brickman z”l Memorial Match

The annual Shachar Brickman z”l Memorial Match took place at the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility as his parents, Gideon and Shosh Brickman took part in the event along with their extended family. The Maccabi Tel Aviv Under-19 Club named for Shachar fell to their city rivals, Bnei Yehuda in the Little Derby on penalties after a 0:0 draw at the end of regulation time.

Maccabi Tel Aviv CEO Ben Mansford, Performance Director Patrick van Leeuwen and other management personnel were also on hand.

At the conclusion of the match, Gideon Brickman said: “We have the honor to be part of the Maccabi Tel Aviv family and we are proud to be part of the Under-19 Club year after year.”

Shachar was a loyal fan of Maccabi Tel Aviv and made sure to attend every match. Shachar battled cancer for three years and succumbed to the illness at the age of 38, leaving behind a daughter Roni.

DAVIDZADA, BLACKMAN, BABIN AND KANUK END LOAN DEALS

Ofir Davidzada, Nick Blackman and Jean Sylvain Babin who joined Maccabi at the start of the 2017/18 season and Kanuk who joined in January completed their loan deals and return to their clubs.

Maccabi’s CEO Ben Mansford told the club’s official website: “It has been a pleasure to have Ofir Davidzada, Nick Blackman, Sylvain Babin and Gidi Kanuk as part of the Maccabi Tel Aviv family this season. All four contributed immensely to what was a long and demanding season and showed true professionalism throughout. We thank them for being a pleasure to work with.”

Davidzada, joined Maccabi in the summer from Belgian outfit Gent and the 27-year-old left-back scored 4 goals in 50 appearances for Maccabi.

Nick Blackman arrived on a season-long-loan-deal from Derby County and the 29-year-old forward scored 12 goals in 40 appearances.

Jean Sylvain Babin, will return to Spanish outfit Sporting Gijon after the 31-year-old central defender made 40 appearances for Maccabi in all competitions.

Gidi Kanuk, who arrived in January from Pakhtakor Tashkent, marked his 5th appearance for Maccabi with a goal on the closing match of the season.
