In the match programme for this Sunday's game against Bnei Yehuda, Maccabi Tel Aviv's new Spanish goalkeeper Juan Pablo tells of his very first experiences as a football player

"I always wanted just to be a goalkeeper, I've never tried to play in any other position on the pitch". Maccabi Tel Aviv's new goalkeeper Juan Pablo is featured in an article to appear in the match programme for the game against Bnei Yehuda this Sunday at Bloomfield Stadium. With fifteen years as a professional football player already behind him, and despite the fact that he has faced some of the world's footballing greats, Juan Pablo's most exciting moment came when he was sitting on the bench: "When I just started out keeping goal at (Spanish club Deportivo) Alaves, I managed to get the jersey of one of the best goalkeepers in Spain at the time, a man I greatly admired, Jose Molino. At the time I was sitting on the bench when we played against him but a friend of mine on the team asked him for his jersey for me and I was very happy to get it".

Despite all his years playing in Spain, Juan Pablo has already managed to have his first new footballing experience with his present club: "The game in Hungary against Gyori was my first European match. Definitely something I had in the back of my mind when I decided to sign for Maccabi". Another experience the Spanish goalkeeper has never had is to win a championship: "I've been waiting for this and I'll be working hard to see it happen as a Maccabi player".
