Eitan Tibi scored two identical headed goals on Saturday against Hapoel Hadera to ensure the 3-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv’s stubborn opponents. It was the first time the central defender had netted since November 2014, when he scored against Maccabi Netanya.

“I’m a central defender but I’m so happy that I scored and helped secure the victory, I’m ecstatic,” Tibi said after the match.

“My path has not been easy lately but this campaign is compensation for last season when I had a very difficult time, but things happen for a reason. I believe that hard work is the best way for me to show my abilities on the pitch and I am pleased that it has happened and hope that it can continue,” said Tibi, who sat out most of last season because of injury.

He said that maintaining the four-point gap over Maccabi Haifa would not be easy but that it was not a prime consideration for the players.

“We have not thought about our situation in the standings, we had an aim to win today and I’m pleased that we managed to do so. Certainly, this title race will be much closer than last season. There is a good battle and I hope we can continue to win to keep our place at the top of the table,” Tibi said and signed off by dedicating the goals to his parents.
