Cohen: “We want to win at any stadium”

Maccabi Tel Aviv will visit Bnei Sahknin at the Acre Stadium tomorrow, Wednesday at 21:00 for the first leg of the State Cup quarterfinals. The Yellow & Blue enter the contest after drawing 1:1 versus Hapoel Haifa while Sakhnin is in 13th place in the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika. The match is being held in Acre due to a radius penalty.

The two sides have faced each other once this season in league action and Maccabi had the upper hand with a 3:0 win at the Netanya Stadium. The match tomorrow will be the first of three against Sakhnin in the month of February (2 Cup, 1 League) and striker Yonatan Cohen looked ahead to the clash:

“There is never an easy match especially in Cup play. This is the first of two and we want to win. I don’t think that since the contest is at Doha Stadium it will affect us. We want to win at any Stadium and we expect to do what we need to.”

About Sakhnin’s season to date:
“We aren’t focusing on our opponent as we have our preparations that we need to do just as we’ve done all season. There’s no question that State Cup matches are always exciting, but we are looking at this match just like any other. We are preparing well with the goal of winning.”

Another record is broken: Over 2,500 items contributed for Operation Warming Up

The Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Foundation had a couple of very successful weeks as together with you, the fans we broke a record by contributing over 2,500 articles of winter clothing for the needy!
The contributions were made at specially designated stands around the Netanya Stadium and at the Team Stores as the Maccabi Family came forward to help the community in an unprecedented way.

Just like last year’s campaign another record was broken and here are the wonderful statistics:

  • Every fan donated 2.3 articles of clothing
  • The most popular item was sweatshirts (over 400)
  • Over 250 Maccabi items were contributed and many of the fans immediately purchased something new from the Club’s Winter Collection
  • The most popular location for donations was at the Netanya Stadium at the Beitar Jerusalem match (over 1,200 items)
  • More than 50 blankets were also donated over the course of the campaign

Maccabi Tel Aviv visits Bnei Sakhnin on Wednesday night (21:00) February 6th in the first leg of the State Cup Quarterfinals at the Acre Stadium. Tickets are on sale via the Leaan Ticket Agency Website,telephone *8780 and the Leaan Ticket Office located at Frishman 42, Tel Aviv.

Please Note: This match is part of the Points Allocation System and season ticket holders will receive 3 points for this contest while non-season ticket holders will receive 1.5 point. Make sure that when tickets are purchased via the Leaan Website, telephone or Leaan Ticket Office the season ticket number is used in order to receive full points. Should the purchase not be done by using the season ticket number points will not be allocated.

Should a ticket be purchased and the fan doesn’t attend the match, there will be no refunds and no points will be allocated.

Shechter: “We are still in good shape and we have a super important Cup match on Wednesday”

Itay Shechter, the Maccabi Tel Aviv striker looked back at his side’s 1:1 draw while also looking ahead for Wednesday’s State Cup match at Bnei Sakhnin:

“There’s no question that the second have wasn’t as good as the first where we should have increased the lead as we had some chances to do so. We have a super important match on Wednesday against Sakhnin in the Cup and we have to prepare in earnest for that. This is football sometimes. We are good shape and we have to take the few good things from this match and move forward.”

Thanking Rajkovic:
“We owe a lot to Rajkovic who had a good game. It may have looked like Haifa was controlling the lace of play bit they really only had a few good chances. We know though that we didn’t have a great match and we have to now get ready for Wednesday.”

Plenty of goals ahead:
“We are a big club and we know that every match is important. We still have plenty of goals going forward one of which is to win the title as quickly as possible and also the State Cup where we know that every match is difficult. We know we still have a ways to go and we have to lift ourselves up.”

Bnei Sakhnin is a dangerous team:
“In the Cup if you’re not ready you can easily be punished. We have to be focused and Bnei Sakhnin is a dangerous team who we have to be ready for with the goal of advancing to the next stage of the competition.”

Vladimir Ivic, the Maccabi Tel Aviv Head Coach looked back at his squad’s 1:1 draw versus Hapoel Haifa on Matchday 21 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika:

“This wasn’t a good game. We had some problems in the middle of the pitch and on the attack and we weren’t creative enough. Sometimes this happens but I believe the result reflect reality. They had some chances and we have to work hard to make the proper corrections. I’ll speak to the players about what didn’t work well.”

Pressure:
“It’s normal, everyone who plays against us wants to win. Every game for us is important from the beginning to the end of the season. We want to improve game to game and continue playing as we have the previous games.”

Transfer window:
“We will see. We have a few more days and if we do something you will know about it.”

Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Haifa Draw 1:1

Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Haifa drew 1:1 at the Netanya Stadium on Matchday 21 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika. Enric Saborit’s spectacular first half individual effort gave the Yellow & Blue the lead but a Gabriel Tamas header cancelled out the advantage as the sides split the points. Maccabi will now get ready for Bnei Sakhnin in the first leg of the State Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday evening at the Acre Stadium.

Head Coach Vladimir Ivic’s Starting XI included keeper Predrag Rajkovic, Enric Saborit, Sheran Yeini, Jair Amador, Maor Kandil, Dor Peretz, Dan Glezer, Ruslan Barsky, Dor Micha, Eliran Atar and Itay Shechter.

Available on the bench: Daniel Tenenbaum, Omer Atzili, Avi Rikan, Yonatan Cohen, Aron Schoenfeld, Ophir Davidzada, Shahar Piven.

First Half
In the 5’ Ginsari’s pass went off of Amador, skipped by the post and went out as Haifa had the first chance of the contest. Peretz’s 10’ opportunity from 20 meters went out while 8 minutes later Hozez tried to surprise Rajkovic from a tough angle but the Maccabi keeper made the save.

Ginsari’s 21’ chance from a Hozez ball missed the target and Barsky’s 23 meter attempt two minutes later flew over the goal as the contest remained goalless. In the 35’ Micha crossed the ball to Saborit but his header attempt was caught by Setkus and one minute later Shechter’s chance off Amador’s attempt from a corner just missed the goal.

But in the 37’ Saborit took the ball on the Maccabi half of the pitch and went forward 40 meters before unleashing a low shot from the top of the box that beat the Haifa keeper for a 1:0 advantage as the Yellow & Blue took the lead into the break.

Second Half
Micha gave Peretz a nice ball in the 52’ but his header went over the bar, while three minutes later Setkus took care of a Shechter chance. Glezer’s 62’ attempt was saved by Setkus and five minutes later Avi Rikan was introduced for Peretz.

Aron Schoenfeld entered the match in the 80’ for Shechter and a minute later Hozez’s free kick was parried away by Rajkovic for a corner. However, Haifa found the back of the goal via Gabriel Tamas as he headed home the equalizer, 1:1. Rikan almost gave Maccabi the lead in the 84’ off a Barsky ball but his shot went by the target and two minutes later Omer Atzili was introduced in favor of Barsky.

Both sides had chances to find the winner but ended up splitting the points as Maccabi will now prepare to face Bnei Sakhnin in the first leg of their State Cup quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday night at the Acre Stadium.

Hapoel Tel Aviv 1:2 Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv (U19)
After winning the International Winter Tournament, Maccabi “Shachar” defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv to take the Derby. Eyal Hen scored first while Eduardo Guerrero put home the winner thanks to an assist by Bar Cohen. The win leaves the U19 squad in 2nd place just 4 points off the top of the table leaders Maccabi Petah Tikva who they face next week. For the full Match Report click here.

Kiryat Shemona 0:2 Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv (U17)
The Under-17 team were back in action after the National Team Tournament and defeated Kiryat Shemona up north on Matchday 18 of league play. Maccabi is in first place with a 12 point lead thanks to goals by Or Roizman and Niv Berkovic. Coach Eliezer Ben Aharon summed up the victory, “Another win as we look towards the final goal. We were missing some players and we had some Under-16 players with us who helped us to the victory. We’re happy with the win but not the quality of play. I felt the players were tired and were a little slow. We have two matches coming up against Ashdod and Petah Tikva who are strong sides. We’ll try to take the six points.”

Hapoel Raanana 1:1 Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv (U16)
After a win over Maccabi Herzliya last match, the Under-16 side visited Raanana on Matchday 19 as the squad’s split the points in a 1:1 draw. The young Yellow & Blue are in 3rd place and sit 4 points back from the top of the table as Dor David Turgeman scored for Maccabi. Head Coach Eran Sassi looked back at the match, “The first half was played at a high pace by both sides and we scored once despite a number of chances. We gave up a goal on a penalty that was questionable at best. We were the only team on the pitch in the second half and had numerous chances but we couldn’t find the back of the goal. The most important thing is to learn from the things we can do better as per the academy’s philosophy and get ready for the next match.”

Maccabi “Eldad” Tel Aviv 8:2 Ironi Kiryat Gat (U15)
The Under-15 squad hosted Kiryat Gat on Matchday 18 and picked up the win to remain in first place. Ido Mizrahi x2, Oral Bahia x3, Liad Ramot, Nir Levi and Oskar Gluck all scored. Ori David looked back at the victory, “This match, like the last few we opened with a lot of intensity and we had many chances close to the goal. We scored fairly quickly which I am happy about and I’m content with the club’s attack. On the defensive side we’ve put a serious emphasis on the team play as well as the individual efforts in order to improve this aspect. In general I’m very happy and I’m looking forward to another week of training sessions as we prepare for an away match at Nes Ziona.”
