Maccabi “Shachar” & Ramat Gan play to goalless draw

The Under-19 squad hosted Hapoel Ramat Gan on Matchday 6 of the Youth Premier League. The young Yellow & Blue entered the contest in 2nd place and undefeated whole Hapoel Ramat Gan were in second to last place on the table with one win.

Guy Tzarfati’s Starting XI: Or Itzhak, Michael Chilaka, Alon Shtrozberg, Dan Lugassi, Tomer Mahluf, Ido Shachar, Mufleh Shalata, Yoav Hofmayster (C), Bar Cohen, Tal Yagudaev and Eduardo Guerrero.

First Half
The Yellow & Blue began the match strong and in the 2’ left back Mahluf received the ball on the left wing but sent his shot out while 7 minutes later, Ramat Gan tried their luck when Hod Mesika’s long distance chance went over the goal. In the 10’ Shachar’s shot also went over the bar.

Maccabi continued to attack and in the 27’ Hofmayster took the ball on the left wing and sent a gorgeous cross into the box, but Guerrero couldn’t get to the ball in time as it went out. A minute later Cohen was able to get the ball over the Ramat Gan defense but Shachar’s acrobatic shot from the air was saved when Yuval Sadeh was just able to get his fingertips on the ball to send it to safety. In the 37’ Mesika’s opportunity went out as the half ended goalless.

Second Half
In the 50’ Cohen’s free kick went by the post while five minutes later, the same Cohen sent a through ball over the defenders and Shalata was able to get a foot on the ball, however, the ball sent over the bar. Tzarfati’s squad had a great chance to score when Cohen again placed a perfect through ball to Yagudaev who sent it to Guerrero it his opportunity went out.

As the match headed into the 68’, Mahluf sent Guerrero a fantastic ball who in turn handed it off to Rave Assayag who had come on as a substitute, but couldn’t get his foot on the ball. Two minutes later Cohen’s free kick hit the post and in the 75’ the Yellow & Blue were reduced to 10 men when Shtrozberg was issued a straight red card as he stopped a Hapoel Ramat Gan player as he made his way towards the goal

In the 80’ a long range shot almost beat Itzhak, but the shot stopper was just able to deflect the ball off of the post and it went out for a corner. Ten minutes later as the match wound down, Asaf Hershko who had come on as a substitute had a chance from long range but the ball went out as the side’s split the points in a a goalless draw.

Maccabi’s good start to the season continued as they increased their undefeated streak to 8 matches across all competitions.

In fact, over the last 25 matches across all competitions (not including friendlies) the Yellow & Blue have only lost one contest away at Sarpsborg in Europa League qualifying. Other than that match the last time Maccabi lost was in April 2018 when they fell to Beitar Jerusalem 3:2 at Teddy Stadium.

Predrag Rajkovic picked up his second clean sheet in a row.

Omer Atzily scored his first goals in 2018/19 league play. If we take into account #7’s goal in the Toto Cup Final against Maccabi Haifa, the winger has 3 goals in as many games.

Dor Micha increased his league assist lead with his 4th of the season in Ligat Japanika play. Micha also ranks second in key passes with 9.

Eyal Golasa has started every League match to date this season. The midfielder finds himself in 6th place in the league when it comes to km run with 52.72km. Golasa is second in successful tackles with 22 just begins Eden Shamir who has 23. Itay Shechter, Eli Dasa, Predrag Rajkovic and Sheran Yeini have also been in the Starting XI in all league contests so far this campaign.

Golasa and Dan Glazer are in 3rd place in steals in the opponent’s half of the pitch with 9.

Atzily had 3 attempts at the goal, the most on the team. Chico Ofoedu and Dor Peretz were also dangerous with 2 attempts each.

Enric Saborit was the fastest Maccabi player topping out at 32.8kph.

Glazer ran the most (11.2km) while Peretz (10.6), Atzily (10.5) and Yeini (10.4) were next in line.

Sheran Yeini leads the league in passes (391) with 365 being accurate.

Beginning at 15:00 there will be different children’s activities around the stadium from shooting contests to football-tennis, and snooker-football as well. We recommend that you get to the stadium early and enjoy these great activities beginning at 15:00, 2 hours prior to the opening whistle.


Of course the action on the pitch will be exciting as well. After defeating Beitar Jerusalem 2:0 Maccabi will host Hapoel Hadera for a top of the table battle. Each side collected 3 points this past week and Maccabi will look to do the same on Matchday 7 in order to move into first place.

Rajkovic: “Maccabi always fights for the titles and every game is like a final”

Predrag Rajkovic, the Yellow & Blue keeper was content with his team’s 2:0 win over Beitar Jerusalem and began by talking about his lucky shirt:

“It looks like the pink shirt is the lucky color and I’ll keep it all season if the clean sheets continue.”

About the match:
“This was a difficult game especially since we played away at Beitar. We played well and controlled the ball. I’m happy with the team effort and we have to keep working hard in order to continue to improve.”

More about the game:
“Beitar attacked and pressed high. Their fans pushed them forward and it’s not easy to control the ball in that case but we played well and we scored two goals.”

Giving it all for Maccabi:
“I give 100% when I’m here at Maccabi. The transfer window is closed and I’m here 200% until the end of the season and maybe one more year, you never know. I think I’m improving game by game and I have to continue to work hard.”

Fighting for titles:
“Maccabi always fights for the titles and every game is like a final. If we don’t think like this then we won’t win. I believe in our staff and players to take two more titles.”

“The match the season is between the top two teams and that’s what we have next game, if we win we will leapfrog Hadera and hopefully that will make things easier.

After defeating Beitar Jerusalem 2:0 at Teddy Stadium in the capital city, Maccabi Tel Aviv winger Omer Atzily who scored both goals in the victory looked back at the match that was:

“I’m happy that I scored and this was an important win for us. I didn’t celebrate because I had spent three wonderful seasons at Beitar and I wanted to respect the supporters.”

About the match:
“This was an important result and it wasn’t easy at all. We’re playing very hard to get good results and I hope that this will continue.”

The rotation:
“The rotation isn’t that difficult for me. It’s a competition for all of us and we’re all giving 100% in order to play. I’m happy that I scored and I hope that this will continue.”

Vladimir Ivic, the Yellow & Blue Head Coach spoke about his side’s 2:0 win over Beitar Jerusalem on Matchday 6 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika:

Ivic: “We deserved the victory”

“We deserved the victory as we won 2:0 and we were the better team. We controlled the game in the first half and we lost confidence at the beginning of the second half. This is something that we have to discuss and improve.”

About the next match against Hadera:
“We have our next game against Hapoel Hadera and we have to prepare for them and they are the surprise of the league. They are first and the match against them will be very interesting.”

It’s all Atzily: Maccabi defeats Beitar 2:0

Maccabi Tel Aviv took home the win and 3 points thanks to Omer Atzily’s brace against Beitar Jerusalem at Teddy Stadium on Matchday 6 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika. The victory helps Maccabi keep pace with table leaders Hapoel Hadera who also won 1:0 against Kiryat Shemona. The Yellow & Blue will host Hadera in two weeks after the international break in a top of the table clash at the Netanya Stadium.

Head Coach Vladimir Ivic’s Starting XI included keeper Predrag Rajkovic, Eli Dasa, Jair Amador, Captain Sheran Yeini, Enric Saborit, Dor Peretz, Dan Glazer, Eyal Golasa, Chico Ofoedu, Itay Shechter and Omer Atzily.

Available on the bench were keeper Haviv Ohayon, Eitan Tibi, Eliran Atar, Dor Micha, Avi Rikan, Matan Hozez and Aaron Schoenfeld.

Ahead of the opening whistle, a special ceremony took place as the Goldhar family honored Ms. Barbara Rybczynska whose late mother Aniela Dembinska together with the late Mikolaj and Helena Sajowski were instrumental in saving the life of Sala Armel Goldhar from perishing during the Holocaust.

First Half
The first quarter hour of the match saw a tentative start as the side’s exchanged possession with no chances on either goal. Maccabi then began taking control as Atzily tried to cross a free kick into the box in the 16’ to no avail while Chico sent Dasa a nice ball but his cross missed the target as well.

In the 24’ Chico made his way by two defenders but Beitar keeper Dudu Goresh made the stop and 12 minutes later Dasa’s chance was saved by the Yellow & Black shot stopper. However, in the 40’ Atzily put the ball behind the Beitar keeper to give Maccabi a 1:0 lead. Peretz passed the ball to Atzily on the right and #7 cut to the middle then to his left and beat Goresh cleanly.

Atzily almost added a second marker two minutes later after taking a ball in the box from Golasa but his attempt went by the post as the half ended with the Yellow & Blue ahead 1:0.

Second Half
Peretz was issued a yellow card in the 48’ and Beitar had a good scoring chance in the 52’ as Or Inbrum sent the ball to Idan Vered but the latter’s attempt missed the target. Three minutes later Atzily received a yellow card and then Beitar almost drew even when Vered gave the ball to Gaetan Varenne who went one on one with Rajkovic but the striker put the ball over the bar.

Afonso Taira came close to finding the equalizer in the 60’ but his rebound attempt went over the goal and a minute later Ivic made his first substitute of the match when he inserted Dor Micha in favor of Golasa while in the 72’ Avi Rikan came on for Ofoedu. Eran Levy who had been introduced earlier in the half for Beitar sent the ball to Inbrum but his chance sailed by the post in the 75’ as Beitar came closer to tying up the contest.

In the 79’ Peretz tried his luck from 25 meters but the ball was saved by Goresh and sent out for a corner while a minute later Shechter was issued a yellow card. Inbrum crossed the ball from the left to Jakob Sylvstr but his chance missed the goal and in the 85’ Aaron Schoenfeld was introduced for Shechter.

However, if there was any doubt that Maccabi wouldn’t come away with the 3 points, Atzily made sure to quell that thought as the winger scored his second of the contest in the 88’ thanks to an assist by Micha as the Yellow & Blue took home the 3 points and the win.

Special Ceremony held in honor of the Rybczynska family who saved Sala Goldhar

Tonight’s match at Teddy Stadium against Beitar Jerusalem began with a very emotional and moving moment.


Ahead of the opening whistle, a special ceremony took place as the Goldhar family honored Ms. Barbara Rybczynska whose late mother Aniela Dembinska together with the late Mikolaj and Helena Sajowski were instrumental in saving the life of Sala Armel Goldhar from perishing during the Holocaust.

At tremendous risk to themselves for a period of over 2 years they passed off Sala as their own daughter and granddaughter. This week Mikolaj and Helena Sajowski will be honored at Yad Vashem in the Righteous Among the Nations Award Ceremony. Ms. Barbara Rybczynska will accept the medal and certificate of the Righteous Among the Nations on their behalf.

Youth Academy Results – Saturday October 6, 2018

After their trip to Russia for the UEFA Youth League clash against Anzhi Makhachkala, the Under-19 squad Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv will play their league contest on Tuesday versus Hapoel Ramat Gan at the Ramle Stadium at 18:00.

Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv 2:0 Bnei Sakhnin
After a midweek 6:3 win at Beitar Jerusalem, the Under-17 side returned home to face Bnei Sakhnin and move their record up to 6 wins and 1 draw, good for first place as they defeated the Galilee based team 2:0. Goals by Nehoray Bitton (24’) and Yali Lazar (74’) helped Eliezer Ben Aharoni’s charges to the victory. Following the match the Head Coach summed up the win: “This was our third win this week in a match that wasn’t played at the highest level but we dominated control. We were ready for Sakhnin’s style of play and that’s what helped us pick up the win. Next week we head to Beer Sheva which is always difficult but that never scares a Maccabi team.”


Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv 1: Beitar Tubruk
An Aviv Peles goal gave Maccabi an early 1:0 lead but the visitor’s drew even to split the points in the second half. Eran Sassi summed up the match: “The goal of this match was to help give the players confidence on the defensive side of the ball after we gave up 3 goals last game. I’m happy that the team was able to learn how to do things better this week. On the attack, we are still not able to take advantage of our opportunities that we were able to create and I hope that with more hard work we will be able to accomplish this. All in all this was a good game, especially in the second half. I hope we will see further improvement next match.”

Maccabi “Eldad” Tel Aviv 5:0 Sektzia Nes Ziona
After a midweek 3:3 draw against Kiryat Gat, Matchday 4 saw the Under-15 side get back into the winning track and have taken 10 out of a possible 12 points so far this season. Oskar Glok and Oral Bahia each scored a brace while Ben Gold added a single marker. Head Coach Ori David spoke about the win: “We had some good moments during the match and we competed against a side that played very defensively at times but we were able to take advantage of our opportunities and played to our strengths. We scored 5 nice goals and we recorded a clean sheet so I’m very content.”
