Radnicki Europa League Home Match Ticket Sales

Maccabi Tel Aviv will host Radnicki Nis from Serbia in the second round of Europa League Qualifying. 2018/19 Season Ticket Holders have priority to purchase discounted tickets beginning Friday July 20, while tickets went on sale for the general public on Sunday July 22 at 18:00.

Tickets are on sale via the Leaan Ticket Agency located at 42 Frishman Street, by phone *8780 and via the Leaan Website for Season Ticket Holders by clicking this link and for the General Public by clicking this link.

Maccabi fans may purchase tickets in the Upper East Stand (unreserved), Lower East Stand (reserved), E+ (reserved), West Stands (106-109 reserved), Silver Section (reserved).

Rikan: “It’s good we’re playing tough opponents, it will get us into shape faster”

Avi Rikan, the Yellow & Blue midfielder looked back at his side’s 1:0 (2:1 aggregate) win over Hungarian side Ferencváros while also reflecting on the importance of the fans, the depth of the squad and improving over time:

“Of course we still have to improve and I’m sure we will see that over time. The most important thing was to advance and that’s what we did this match. Now we have to get ready for a very tough match next week. We haven’t had this type of difficult draw over the past few seasons in Europe, but it’s good we’re playing tough opponents as we will get into game shape faster.”

Adapting to the new staff:
“It’s early and these were just the first two matches with a new staff who want to continue to teach us their style. I’m sure that over time we will continue to improve and adapt to the new staff.”

About the fans:
“We felt the fans. When we saw their Yellow & Blue in the stands it pushed us forward. We could have scored more goals and the fans were there giving us their support. I’m sure next week we will see even more fans in the stadium.”

Missing Atar’s goal:
“I didn’t see the goal because I was making a run. Eliran’s been great and he’s in the thick of things. Hopefully he’ll score even more.”

The squad depth and playing time:
“Last season we also had a deep squad and with time and a lot of matches there will be battles for a spots to play. It’s good that we have a deep squad and that there will be competition.”

Ivic: “It’s on to the next round”

Maccabi Tel Aviv advanced to the second round of Europa League qualifying thanks to Eliran Atar’s goal as the Head Coach Vladimir Ivic looked back at the victory:

“It was a tough game. We advanced to the second round and that was the goal before the two games. Now we have to continue. That was the first round, now it’s on to the next round.”

About Ferencváros:
“We played a strong opponent and we were prepared for that. We got ready for Ferencváros over the past few days and we did well up to now, but it’s just the start. We have to continue and prepare now for the next game.”

The next opponent Radnicki:
“I am familiar with the team as they are the best team in Serbia after Partizan and Red Star. There will be tough games ahead and we will have to prepare well for them.”

Improving every match:
“Every game is important that we get better. This is just the start and we have to get past the next round.”

Eliran’s Atar’s goal:
“It was an amazing goal, but we have a lot of players and we will have to work with them and play the best team at the right moment.”

Maccabi defeats Ferencváros 1:0; advances to 2nd Round

The Yellow & Blue advanced to Europa League second round qualifying thanks to a 1:0 home win (2:1 aggregate) over Ferencváros and will now face Serbian side Radnicki Nis. Eliran Atar’s first half goal made all the difference as over 8,000 Maccabi Tel Aviv fans who came to support the team at the Netanya Stadium went home happy.

Prematch
Head Coach Vladimir Ivic’s Starting XI included Serbian keeper Predrag Rajikovic, Eli Dasa, Jair Amador, Eitan Tibi, Enric Saborit, Dor Peretz, Ruslan Barsky, Dor Micha (C), Avi Rikan, Eliran Atar and Vidar Kjartansson.
Available on the bench were keeper Haviv Ohayon, Dan Glazer, Omer Atzily, Itay Shechter, Shahar Piven, Aaron Schoenfeld and Sheran Yeini.

First Half
Very few chances were created in the opening twenty minutes of the contest until Atar’s corner found Amador but his header went out. Atar was active again in the 27’ when he tried a half bicycle kick thanks to a Dasa pass, but his attempt missed the target.

Ferencváros had their first chance of the contest in the 32’ when Kjartan Finnbogason’s shot from the left just went over the bar while two minutes later Rikan was issued a yellow card for a reckless tackle in the midfield. The visitor’s threatened to take the lead when Davide Lanzafame’s 44’ chance was cleared by Tibi and his free kick from the left just went wide right of the Maccabi goal.

As the match seemed to be headed into the break goalless, Barsky sent a tremendous pass from Maccabi’s side of the pitch to Atar who took the ball just outside of the box and from 20 meters turned and fired a right footed bullet into the goal for a 1:0 Maccabi lead at halftime.

Second Half
The Yellow & Blue looked for a second goal in the 52’ but Peretz’s shot and Rikan’s rebound follow up were taken care of by the Ferencváros keeper Denes Dibusz. Atar then came in off the right wing in the 56’ but his opportunity flew wildly over goal and nine minutes later Dasa sent Vidar a fine pass but the Icelandic striker’s attempt was blocked by the keeper. In the 66’ Coach Ivic made his first substitution inserting Aaron Schoenfeld in favor of Kjartansson.

Omer Atzily was Maccabi’s second substitute in the 72’ as goal scorer Atar came off to a standing ovation by the Yellow & Blue faithful. Schoenfeld almost added an insurance marker five minutes later but his header off an Atzily corner hit the post while Atzily’s brilliant chance a minute later also went off the same right post.

Sheran Yeini entered the match in the 89’ for Rikan as Macabi wrapped up a 1:0 (2:1 aggregate) win to advance to the second round of Europa League qualifying where they’ll face Radnicki Nis from Serbia.

First Community Day of the 2018/19 Season

The new season is underway and its the perfect time to meet all of the players at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom on July 23rd. You’ll be able to take pictures, selfies and receive autographs from all of the Yellow & Blue stars up close and personal.

The event will begin at 16:00 and fans must be at the facility by 15:45. Registration opens today, Thursday and is limited to 500 people. Please note, you will not be able to attend if you do not register in advance.

How does it work?
Registration is open today Thursday July 19th at 11:00 to all Maccabi FIRST members for the Community Day on Monday July 23rd at 15:45 at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom, 106 Derech Ben Tzvi and is limited to 500 participants ONLY.
Each person may register up to 3 participants which includes the person submitting the registration. Just like when you make a reservation at a restaurant, you request a table for yourself plus 2 friends for a total of 3 ONLY.

IMPORTANT:
• Following the registration, you’ll receive an email requesting information about the participants.
• If you registered for the last Community Day and weren’t able to come but didn’t give us notice, you will not be allowed to attend this coming Community Day. If you register for this upcoming Community Day and can’t come, please let us know in advance.
• If weather conditions don’t permit the Community Day to take place, you will be notified a few hours prior to the event and you’ll be able to participate in the Community Day the following month.
• All participants must arrive at the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility by 15:45. Should you be delayed, you may not be able to participate in the event.
In order to ensure that all fans meet all of the players, special greeting videos may not be recorded at the Training Facility.

Entrance to the Training Facility will be granted only after a full security check. Each participant will need to present their Teudat Tzehut ID Card, License or Passport in order to take part in the event. Entrance will not be granted to those whose names do not appear on the official registration list!
Participants are not allowed to bring with professional photographers or videographers.

Stats Talk: What did we learn from the first leg against Ferencvaros

Maccabi Tel Aviv will host Ferencvaros on Thursday (20:00) in the return leg of first round Europa League qualifying after Eliran Atar’s injury time goal helped the Yellow & Blue to a 1:1 draw in the first meeting between the sides that took place last week in Budapest. Ahead of the return leg it’s time to look back at the stats page from the first match to see what we learned.

Yellow & Blue Dominance
With a fabulous stadium and terrific home crowd support, Ferencváros wasn’t just any simple rival for the first 90 minutes between the clubs. The statistics show that Vladimir Ivic’s side was in control for the majority of the match. After the first quarter hour where the possession was even between the squads, Maccabi was able to hold onto the ball for 65% of the time compared to 35% for the Hungarians. Between the 45’-75’ the Yellow & Blue were even more dominant controlling the ball for 72% of the time.

Another area in which Maccabi had the upper hand was shots on target. The host’s had a total of 6 shots at Predrag Rajikovic’s goal with 3 on target while Maccabi had 16 shots over the 90 minutes with 5 on target. As time went by, the Yellow & Blue continued to press for the equalizer and had 5 attempts towards the Ferencváros keeper over the last quarter hour with one of them, Eliran Atar’s finding the back of the goal.

Ferencváros Key Players
One of the most important players for Ferencváros in Budapest was Uruguayan midfielder Fernando Gorriarán. The Hungarian side’s number 27 was very active and helped open up the game with his fantastic dribbling skills. Out of Gorriarán’s 11 dribbles, 9 of them were successful, more than any other player on the team. Some of the dribbles which were in Maccabi’s half of the pitch, gave the host’s a number of half chances and created opportunities although they didn’t have ball possession for the majority of the match.

Roland Varga (number 97) was another player who made significant contributions on the attacking side of the contest for Ferencváros. You can see from the diagram that he played furthest forward for the host’s and attempted 11 crosses into the box over the 90 minutes with 4 of them hitting the intended target.

Icelandic striker Kjartan Finnbogason who joined the Hungarian outfit during the summer was the main man when it came to the aerial game. The 1.90 forward was involved in 26 aerial battles and was successful 11 times while the next Ferencváros player, Gergő Lovrencsics took part in 9 and was successful 6 times.

Maccabi’s Hungarians

During the 1990’s, foreign players began to ply their trade in helping strengthen Israeli football. Many of them came from Eastern European countries as Hungary became a very poplar place for scouts in the mid to late-90’s. Over the course of the years, three Hungarian players wore the Yellow & Blue and just ahead of the return leg against Ferencvaros is the perfect time to take a look back at the trio.

Ferenc Horvath
The lanky Hungarian arrived at Maccabi near the end of 2000 from Energie Cottbus of the German Bundesliga. The Hungarian International took part in back-to-back State Cup victories in 2000/01 and 2001/02 and scored 12 goals in 64 appearances. Horvath is also familiar with Maccabi’s Europa League foe, Ferencvaros after playing for the Budapest based side for two seasons between 1996-1998. Today, the former Yellow & Blue is the coach of Balmazújvárosi FC in Hungary. Let’s look back to when Horvath scored a brace in a 6:0 win over Tzafririm Holon during the 2000/01 campaign:

Alek Nilash
Just like Horvath, Nilash also played for Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ferencvaros. The attacking midfielder was the first Hungarian to play for Maccabi and arrived in Israel during the 1997/98 campaign. Nilash played one season for the Yellow & Blue and made 26 appearances while scoring 4 goals before continuing his career with SC Ashdod for the following four years. Adam Vezer
The third Hungarian who played for Maccabi was keeper Adam Vezer who came to the club ahead of the 2000/01 campaign. After making 150 appearances with Honved Budapest, the shot stopper played 14 matches for the Yellow & Blue in his only season with the team. Vezer then went on to play two years with Beitar Beer Sheva before continuing his career, primarily in Cyprus.

Something New is Beginning / Eitan Tibi

The first home match of the season is always extra special and different than any other game; the excitement of something new about to begin. Seeing the fans in the stands as they come to cheer us on gives us the strength we need to meet their expectations. Over the past number of years we have made a tradition of Maccabi’s participation in the group stages of European competitions and the fans’ expectations that we will again advance to that stage is exactly what our goal is.

Last Thursday in Hungary, I recorded my 53rd appearance as a central defender for Maccabi in Europe. As someone who holds the Club record for European matches played, I admit that I’m excited as if this is my first game.

Our opponent this evening showed in the first leg that the challenge will not be a simple one. I have no doubt that Eliran Atar’s goal, although is was the equalizer, gave us, the players a huge lift ahead of the second leg.

We have a squad that has made a number of changes over the summer. From the new coaching staff who are still learning who we are and we are learning who they are, to the new players who are acclimating very well to the team. Last month we began understanding what the demands of the coach are, his expectations and how he wants to see Maccabi play. At the end of the day, we all have the same goal. But from the first match to the last match, we aren’t going to be looking at the past and the distant future, just the here and now.

Jair Amador and Enric Saborit are two of my new defensive partners and they have quickly become part of the team. After the first leg draw in Hungary, it’s clear to all of us that at home, with our supporters and especially by being together, we can reach our goals this season.

Earlier, I explained about the excitement of the first home match, but I can’t end without addressing how excited I am about playing in the brand new kit. In my first season with Maccabi, I played with a striped shirt and the campaign ended with the Club’s first title in 10 years. I can promise that again this season you’ll see a Maccabi that is hungry to recreate the same success as in my first campaign at the Club. This season we are all 100% Maccabi.

Final Preparations: Maccabi is ready for Ferencváros

The battle for a trip to the second round. Maccabi Tel Aviv host’s Ferencváros this evening (20:00) in the return leg of their first round Europa League tie following a 1:1 draw in the first meeting last week in Budapest.

A Maccabi victory or a goalless draw will send the Yellow & Blue into the second round where they would most probably face Radnicki Nis from Serbia as they are leading their qualification tie by 4:0 over Gzira United of Malta following their first match.

The Head Coach Vladimir Ivic addressed the first leg result when questioned that a goalless draw will be enough to see Maccabi through due to the away goal: “Our target is to win the match. We have to concentrate from the first to last minute of the game and fight from the start to the end in order to win the game. I know that the Maccabi fans will be the 12th man.”

Dor Micha added: “We all know how critical this match is. I really believe in this squad and I’m very optimistic about this coming campaign. I think that the first match against Ferencváros was pretty even and they are a good team. At our home and with our fans it will be a totally different story.”
