Monday’s Tel Aviv Derby was the second this season to have finished in a 3-0 win for Maccabi and it’s only one of a number of interesting stats as yellow has become the predominant colour in Tel Aviv.

The latest win against Hapoel has equalled the 10-Derby unbeaten run set in April 1994, and the 3-0 result is only the second time that Maccabi have won both derbies in the same regular season phases by at least a three-goal margin. Previously, this was achieved in 1955-56.

The result was yet another clean sheet for the club and with 20 so far this season, Maccabi are one of six clubs to have achieved the mark in a season and are the fastest to reach it. The last time Maccabi managed 20 clean sheets in a season, they reached the 20th fixture without conceding in the 30th round of the season.

Maccabi have increased the Derby win-loss mark to 53-46 and the seven-match gap is the greatest since 2000. The biggest-ever gap, set in the 1990s, was 10 in favour of Maccabi when they had 32 wins compared to Hapoel’s 22.

Omer Atzili is in sparkling form and on Monday he scored one and set up another goal for the second game running. His season numbers are eight goals and eight assists. This is all the more noteworthy, considering that he only returned from injury in October.

Another player continuing his fine form is Chico Ofoedu, who scored for the second game in a row. He has now amassed nine goals and is fourth in the season’s scorers’ list.

Eyal Golasa’s superb strike was his third in the league this season, his best for Maccabi and second overall, having previously hit five in one season.

Enric Saborit set up one goal on Monday, equalling his assists mark from last season in all competitions.
