State Cup Semifinals Ticket Sales

Maccabi Tel Aviv is slated to face Bnei Yehuda in the State Cup semifinals on April 3, 20:45 at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem. Today, Sunday March 24th, tickets will go on sale for season ticket holders at 21:30 until March 27th at 12:00 at which time tickets will go on sale to the general public.

Tickets can be purchased via the Leaan Ticket Office at 42 Frishman Street, Tel Aviv, telephone *8780 or the Leann Website. Please note that each season ticket will allow you to purchase one ticket only.

We recommend purchasing tickets via the Leaan website with your User Id and Password. If you need help please contact Leaan support at suppoer@leaan.co.il.

Tickets may be collected at the Leaan Ticket Office located at 42 Frishman Street, Tel Aviv between Sunday-Thursday 09:00-19:00, Friday 09:00-13:30.
Tickets may be collected on Matchday at the Stadium ticket windows beginning 3 hours prior to the match until 45 minutes after the start of the match.

Youth Academy ID Card: Asaf Heber

One of the goals of the Maccabi Tel Aviv Avi Cohen Youth Academy is to help the young players improve and advance to the first team. Behind the scenes are many coaches, assistants and staff that are there to provide the next education along the way. One of those people is Asaf Heber, the Under-14 Coach who tells us about his time to date in the world of football and the work he does at the Youth Academy.

Asaf Heber – Coach Under-14 North
Asaf has been working in the field of football for 11 years, 3 of which at the Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Academy. He is the head coach of the Under-14 North team that plays at the University branch of the academy.

“Football is my love and I did my coaching degree years before I actually began to coach. When my oldest son began playing at the Hapoel Petah Tikva Youth Department a friend of mine who was coaching asked if I could help out twice a week. From just aiding a friend I ended up becoming a full fledged coach.”

The Academy philosophy
“I arrived at the club when changes started to happen at the youth department so I can’t compare to other places I had worked for in the past. On a personal level I enjoy every minute and the philosophy is such that it translates exactly to the style of play that we work on during our training sessions. The technology helps everyone learn and improve before, during and after training sessions and matches. We can show the players various different pays that occurred during training or in a match from various angles and we can discuss if the decision that was made was the best possible one. Everything is done by questions and answers in order to help the players and support them when they have to make decisions during play in the future.”

Developing younger players
“It’s important to imbue in the young players the desire and hard work both on and off of the pitch. It’s like a long marathon so they can learn and continue to develop throughout the year. Unfortunately there is a limit to training hours and the youngsters rarely play football or any other sport in their free time. In order for them to be the best that they can be they must invest many more hours outside of regular training times.”

Improving as a coach
“What separates other youth departments in the country from what we are doing with Patrick van Leeuwen, the club’s Performance Director, it’s the philosophy that coaches need to continuously develop from presentations, lectures, discussions, visits to academies outside of Israel and working directly with the rest of the staff. I also read books and also watch videos of other training sessions.”

Youth Academy Staff visit top European Clubs

The Youth Academy is on break due to National Team matches. Some of the coaches are using the time to visit some of the top clubs in Europe including Ajax, Alkmaar and Paris Saint Germain.

The group that went to Holland included the Under-19 Coach Guy Tzarfati, his assistant Nissim Dvash along with U17 assistant coach Jeffrey Yishai and Academy Scout Ran Elias. The coaches visited Ajax Amsterdam where they were impressed by the training facilities and attended training sessions for both the First Team and the youth clubs as well as meeting Ajax Head Coach Erik ten Hag.

Following the trip to Ajax, the group also visited Alkmaar and saw the training facilities as well as First Team and youth club sessions.

At the same time, Under-15 Head Coach Ori David headed to Paris Saint Germain where he attended their league match against Marseille. David also saw their youth team train under the direction of coach Thiago Motta.

The goal of these continuing education visits is to increase connections with some of the Europe’s top clubs while also learning from them as well.

Youth Academy players at the Elite Stage of the European Championships

The Israel Under-19 and Under-17 National Team will will be playing in the Elite Stage of European Championships with the goal to advance to the group stages. The U19 squad will face Switzerland, Poland and France while the U17 side will play the Czech Republic, Holland and Northern Ireland.

Legends: Moshe Schweitzer

History in short

In 1954 the Israel National Team was in South Africa participating in a number of matches when the Blue & White coach, David “Dubir” Schweitzer got word that his son Moshe Schweitzer was born. Later the young boy would be called by his nickname Moshik and would become one of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s greatest players.

Moshik began his footballing career in the Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Department and made his way to the First Team in the 1972/73 season. Due to a star studded Yellow & Blue squad, the young striker was loaned after one campaign to Hapoel Petach Tikva for four seasons helping the side achieve promotion from the Artzit to the Leumit League while scoring 17 goals.

In the 1977/78 campaign Moshik returned to wear the Yellow & Blue and played together with Vicki Peretz and Benny Tabak providing a lethal offense helping the club to a championship the following year while finishing as the league’s leading goal scorer.

Moshik and his father Dubir’s careers had only crossed with the National Team until the 1982/83 season when Dubir came back to coach Maccabi as well as his son in a campaign that ended on a sour note with a State Cup loss to rivals Hapoel Tel Aviv on a controversial hand ball goal by Gili Landau.

Top Moment:

The year was 1978, the Umbrella Derby. The Yellow & Blue against the Reds in front of a rain drenched crowd of over 20,000 at Bloomfield Stadium. Maccabi took a 1:0 lead thanks to a goal by Moshe Goldberg. A Hapoel corner kick was cleared by Giora Speigel who had returned for another go around with Maccabi. Alon Kaplan then lost the ball due to the poor pitch conditions to Schweitzer who sent a terrific deep ball to Avi Cohen ZT”L. Schweitzer’s pass led to one of the nicest goals in Israeli football history and no doubt was the biggest moment in Moshik Schweitzer’s Yellow & Blue career.

Maccabi Doco: The story of the greatest Derby

Sports fans experience many exciting matches and moments, with only a fraction becoming iconic. A rare moment in time that would be almost impossible to duplicate.

One of those moments occurred five years ago to the day at Bloomfield Stadium. On March 7, 2014 Maccabi Tel Aviv met Hapoel Tel Aviv in the big city Derby. It began like any other Derby, but ended up being the greatest one of them all. To mark this occasion, we went back to that evening at Bloomfield Stadium with the heroes and found out that what happened was something beyond the wildest of imaginations. Watch:
