The Numbers, Stats and Facts behind the Derby
To date there have been 151 League Derbies. The Record: 51 Maccabi wins, 54 draws, 46 Hapoel wins. Goal Differential: 174-149 for Maccabi
The last time Hapoel was promoted to the top league (1991/92) the two Derbies that season ended 0:0. This was only the 11th time in history that all of the matches in a season series against the same opponent ended in goalless draws. 
It took Hapoel 11 matches after being promoted to earn a Derby win. The 10 match record between 1990/91-1993/94 was 7 Maccabi wins and 3 draws. During the period, Maccabi won 7 Derbies in a row, their longest in Derby contests between 1991/92-1993/94.
Netanya Stadium will host its second Derby. To date other stadiums which hosted the Derby include: Bloomfield 106, Basa 18, Ramat Gan 16, Maccabiah 9, Moshava 1.
1:0 is the most frequent Derby result – 34 matches (17 for each club) while there have been 25 Goalless Derbies.
There have been 11 comebacks in Derby history: 7 for Maccabi and 4 for Hapoel. 
The latest comeback came in 2013/14 when Eran Zahavi scored in the 89’ and 93’ minutes.
346 players have appeared for Maccabi in League Derbies. 75 have scored a goal.
The All-Time Derby goal scoring leader is Sheya Glazer with 11 goals. Avi Nimni (8), Eli Driks & Eran Zahavi (7) are next.
Three players have scored Hat Tricks including Giora Spiegel 1969/1970, Eli Driks 1992/93, Eran Zahavi 2013/14. 
The youngest Maccabi player in a Derby was Benyamin Rabonovitch, 16.5 years old in 1951/52.
The oldest player in a Derby was Shura Uvarov, 40 years and 3 months old in 1999/00.
There have been 2,294,000 fans who have attended Derby matches throughout the years for an average of 15,200 fans per match.
33 players have appeared for both teams in the Derby. In the 1950’s Yona Fux played for both sides and in the 1980’s there were 3, Gabi Lasri (82/83), Yakov Cohen (84/85) and Micky Ben Shitrit (86/87). The balance of the players were from the 1990’s and onwards.
Three players have scored for both teams in the Derby: Micky Ben Shitrit, Eran Zahavi and winger Tal Ben Chaim.

Yeini: “We’ll be motivated and ready to go to win the Derby”
The Yellow & Blue captain Sheran Yeini is getting ready for Monday night’s Derby against Hapoel Tel Aviv at the Netanya Stadium, 21:00 on Matchday 5 of the Israel Premier League, Ligat Japanika:
“A derby match has its own rules, it doesn’t matter what condition a team is in as both sides will be motivated and ready to go in order to win. It will be a tough match and we are preparing as best as we can.”
Maccabi winning game win the closing minutes:
“Football matches aren’t decided at the beginning of the game but at the end. Of course if you score at the start it’s easier but you still need to keep the result as is. I can’t guarantee anything in this game but we will do the best we can to win.”
Playing central defender:
“I played as a central defender for a year an a half under Moti Ivanir and I’m really enjoying playing this role in the group stages of the Europa League as well. I like to play this position but in general I just like to play and it doesn’t matter where. Wherever the team needs me, I’m happy to help.”
Ivic: “I’m expecting a tough and interesting Derby”
Vladimir Ivic, the Yellow & Blue Head Coach addressed the assembled media ahead of the Derby against Hapoel Tel Aviv on Monday night (21:00) at the Netanya Stadium on Matchday 5 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Japanika:
“This won’t be an easy match as they scored the first goal last game. They have quality players on the attack and we are expecting a tough contest. We played a match just three days ago against Maccabi Haifa so it’s good that the game versus Hapoel will be on Monday as it will give is another day to prepare. I’m sure we will be ready, but again this is not an easy match. Perhaps the score was 4:1 from the last match but it doesn’t always tell the whole story.”
Comparison to the Thessaloniki Derby:
“It’s a tough match there as well and it was always interesting just like it will be here. There will be fans from both teams at the match while in Greece the only fans allowed in are the host’s. It’s a hard match and we are ready for that on Monday as well.”
Changes in the lineup:
“It all depends on the match and the players as well as how they are feeling. It’s normal that there will be changes when you have 3 matches in a week and we have enough players to do that. Sometimes it may look like a risk by some of the people but I do what I need to the best that I can. I know my team and what they can do and all of them can be in the Starting XI.”
More on the rotation:
“The rotation depends on the players, how many game we have and how the players work over the course of the week. If we have two quality players at a position that can both play well, then why not? There is sometimes a risk as it disrupts the continuity, but we try and think about different things. It’s clear to me. Whoever is best will play.”
The level of the league:
“There are many good clubs and quality players. It’s a long league and you never know what will be by the end of the season. Our goal is to give the best we can every single match and we work to win. We believe in ourselves and we are continuing to work hard.”
Injury status:
“There’s a little problem with Davidzada and he’s still out. He’s working hard it’s just a question of time until he returns. I’m not sure if he will be ready for Monday.”
Maccabi “Shachar” & Petah Tikva Draw 3:3
Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv headed to Maccabi Petah Tikva in Matchday 5 of the Israel Youth Premier League. The Yellow & Blue began the day in 1st place with 3 wins and a draw while the host’s were in 2nd place on the table.

First Half
The Yellow & Blue had their first chance of the match in the 1’ as a cross went to Guerrero but his tough angled shot was taken care of by the opposing keeper Dor Hevron, however, two minutes later they found the back of the goal to take a 1:0 lead. Chilaka received the ball on the right wing and lifted it into the box where Assayag took advantage of a poor clearance by Petah Tikva and sent the ball into the corner.
In the 11’ the host’s almost drew even when Eyali Hen took the ball in the box and was one on one with Itzhak who replaced an injured Daniel Peretz, but his attempt hit the post while he sent the rebound into a Maccabi defender that went out for a corner. Five minutes later a nice give and go between Barami and Hen left the former with a chance from 20 meters out but Hevron made the save.
Each side traded chances over the next quarter hour as Maccabi almost doubled their advantage in the 38’ when a through ball from Tamir Glazer went to Hen who sent it to Assayag, but his shot towards the corner just missed the post and went out. However, two minutes later, the host’s drew even at 1:1 when Tal Danon sent a through ball to Arad Bar who found the back of the goal as the sides headed into the half deadlocked.
Second Half
Bar Cohen came in as a substitute and had a chance in the box but the Petah Tikva keeper made the stop. In the 56’ the Yellow & Blue took the lead when Hofmayster passed the ball to Cohen who moved up 20 meters and sent a terrific shot with his left foot that beat Hevron for a 2:1 advantage.
In the 64’ Itzhak made a timely save with his fingertips but three minutes later, the host’s drew even once again as Liel Abada found the corner of the Maccabi goal, 2:2. Then Petah Tikva almost took the lead when Abada’s chance in the box went screaming towards Itzhak but the Maccabi shot stopper was able to use his quick reflexes to send the ball off the bar.
However, the host’s took the lead in the 76’ when the referee pointed to the spot after a player was pulled down in the box, good for a penalty which Ori Artzi converted for a 3:2 advantage to Petah Tikva. But 4 minutes later the Yellow & Blue tied up the contest when Cohen’s corner went into the area and was headed by a Maccabi player off of the post, however, Gil Ben Shalosh pounced on the rebound and scored to draw even at 3:3.
Guy Tzarfati’s squad would have a pair of chances to win the match as Guerrero and Tal Yagudayev each had opportunities but Hevron made a couple of saves to keep the score as is as the team’s split the points.

After last week’s dramatic Derby victory, the Under-19 squad heads to Petah Tikva for a top of the table clash on Matchday 5 of the Israel Premier League. Guy Tzarfati’s side is in 1st place while the host’s sit in 2nd.
Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv – Maccabi Petah Tikva, 9:30 PenguinPickUp Training Ground Kiryat Shalom 1 (U17)
Following the win at Ashdod last Matchday, the young Yellow & Blue will host Petah Tikva in Israel Premier League action. Eliezer Ben Aharon’s side are in 1st place while the visitor’s are in 7th but the gap between the two stands at only 3 points.
Beitar Jerusalem – Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv, 8:45 Jerusalem Bayit Vegan Upper 2 Synthetic (U16)
The Under-16 team visits the capital city where they will meet Beitar on Matchday 5. The Yellow & Blue are in 6th place after winning 2 and losing once while the host’s are in 12th place with one win.
SC Ashdod – Maccabi “Eldad”, 11:15 Ashdod (U15)
After a win last week, the Under-15 squad will head to Ashdod on their second Matchday of the season. The host’s fell to Maccabi Petah Tikva 6:1 last week in league play.
