Dor Peretz, the Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder looked ahead to his team’s Matchday 34 Israel Premier League Ligat Ha’Al contest game against Hapoel Beer Sheva at Toto-Turner Stadium on Saturday night at 21:00 and was asked about the possibility of being the first team to win on their pitch:

“We are not looking at that before the match. We are players who go into every game who want to win just like any other match and we will do our best. This is an interesting match regardless because it’s Maccabi and Beer Sheva, they may be able to win the title and we could break their home winning steak, so you can say there is extra motivation.”

The issue of Beer Sheva players unknowingly taking illegal supplements:
“We are Maccabi and we look at ourselves and not at others. If it happened it happened there is nothing that we can do.”

About Dan Glazer coming back from loan:
“Dan is a good friend and he has had a good season. If we have to fight for a spot at Maccabi Tel Aviv then that is a good thing. I try to prove that I am good enough to play each and every match.”

Next season:
“I am a player at the club and I am not the one who puts it together. We have an important game on Saturday and that is where our focus is and not on what will be next season.”

Jordi Cruyff, the Yellow & Blue Head Coach addressed the media at the prematch press conference ahead of the Club’s Matchday 34 Israel Premier League Ligat Ha’Al contest at Hapoel Beer Sheva on Saturday night at 21:00:

“We are only looking at how we can win this game. You have to focus on the moment. We are only thinking on ways how we can beat them. You always have extra motivation in a full stadium and against a good opponent.”

Reasons behind Beer Sheva winning the title:
“In the key moments they took the points, they defended well and scored goals. There have been many games where they took 3 points when they shouldn’t have and for us it was the other way around, we could have taken the points but we ended up not. It’s all about regularity. When you play well you win, when you play so so you draw and when you play bad you lose. When we didn’t play well we lost points and Beer Sheva didn’t have their best game they still managed to win. They had a better regularity. From the point differential it’s big enough that you can just accept that they deserve it more.”

The potential of being the first team to win at Turner and will it make the season any better:
“These are extra comments and extra articles. It doesn’t give you anything. You have targets at the start of the season, to get into Europe which we did, win the Toto Cup which we did, but the Cup we did not and the league unfortunately we also didn’t. We were in true race but in the money time moment we couldn’t get the points.”

Investigation of Beer Sheva for unknowingly taking illegal supplements:
“I don’t think that it’s appropriate for me to put extra fuel into this and whoever decides must do what they think is appropriate. For us it’s more important to look at our season and to see where we let it go and for the Club to analyze to try and correct the mistakes to be better next season. I’m not qualified enough and I don’t want to look for excuses. I think that if you analyze our last game against Beer Sheva we lost 0:1 and they had one shot on target and they won the game. We had possession we dominated and we lost. We should be looking at those things and nothing else.”

About Vidar Kjartansson:
“In the end the player has 20 goals across the season and he had about 29 last season across all competitions. Those are good averages for strikers. I’m sure he would have liked to have scored more as we did. If he goes to a bigger place then everybody would be happy and if he proves that then he is right and you will have to write that he was good enough to go to a bigger league. The market decides that but obviously for any player that is here it’s always good to go up.”

Football is about cycles:
“When you win the league 2-3 times in a row it means they have done good things. One very big plus is the stadium and a big minus for us and statistics can prove that from being at Bloomfield to where we are. We had gifted players who left and they have been able to keep those players but they will want to test themselves in a bigger market. They will also have to deal with change and that is where everyone has difficulties. One day it will change and that is what football is all about. There are other clubs in Israel and there are sleeping giants as well.”

More on Beer Sheva:
“They have had a lot of stability on the pitch and they can play possession, counter attack, long ball, passing and they are balanced team, that is why they have as many points as they do. Who would have thought that without Neymar, Barcelona would be 20 points up on Real Madrid.”

Numbers behind the victory
Maccabi continued their home undefeated streak against Netanya, one that began in March 2011 when the Diamond City side beat Maccabi 3:0 at Bloomfield Stadium.

Last night, just like the past 20 contests, Maccabi has scored against Netanya since a goalless draw in 2008.

After a first half that didn’t produce many chances (Maccabi had one attempt towards the goal), Jordi Cruyff’s squad had 6 over the last 45 minutes. Altogether Maccabi had 15 shots towards the goal compared to 9 by Netanya.

Although the results haven’t always been the greatest this season, Maccabi has been active in the area and the penalty against Netanya was the Yellow & Blue’s 11th this campaign.

Maccabi has scored 2 goals in each of their last 4 matches good for two wins, (2:0), a draw (2:2) and a defeat (2:3).

Atzily’s goal scoring streak
Vidar Kjartansson took advantage of the penalty by scoring his 13th league goal this season which moved him back into 2nd place.

Omer Atzily scored in his 4th straight match which is the longest streak since Vidar found the back of the goal 5 games in a row this last December and January.

Despite entering the contest in the 70th minute, Nick Blackman had 5 attempts on the Netanya goal which was the most on Maccabi together with Atzily who also had five.

Run, Run, Run
Maccabi players ran 101.9km compared to 99.6km by the Netanya players.

Dor Micha ran the most topping out at 10.4km while Atzily ended the evening with 10.3km and Eyal Golasa finished the night with 10.1km.

Eli Dasa ran the fastest at 34km/h against Netanya.

At the stadium box offices – 3 hours ahead of the match

Avi Rikan, the Yellow & Blue midfielder looked back at his side’s 2:0 win over Maccabi Netanya on Matchday 33 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Ha’Al:

“We played well last week and then the final few minutes occurred and we were left with a bitter taste in our mouthes. We knew what we needed to do to win and prepared all week to make sure we will reach our target of making it into Europa League qualification and continue that tradition. That’s our goal for the rest of the season.”

The goal to win every match:
“Everyone in this profession has to know how to deal with disappointment and we had a number of them this season. They have to strengthen us going forward and we have to understand how to overcome them if we look back. Goals of other teams don’t interest us as we have goals of our own. We go into every game with the goal to win and we were able to smile as this win gives us some breathing room. Tomorrow we will begin to prepare for Saturday’s match.”

About Omer Atzily:
“Over the course of the season, Atzily has really improved the mental side of his game. There were a lot of expectations that he had to take a big club on his shoulders which isn’t that simple. As teammates, we helped him along and he was part of a team which he understood and then unfortunately got hurt. Everyone can see his qualities and how potent he is on the attack. He learnt a lot this season and he will continue to improve going into next. We are here to help him all the way.”

Plenty left to accomplish:
“We had issues this season maintaining our consistency, which we have to do now until the end of the season. Next season will need to look at differently and many of us can give more. We have an important game this coming Saturday and we have plenty left to accomplish this season. We want to win every match as well as this Saturday. Statistics don’t interest me too much and we have goals that we want to accomplish.”

Omer Atzily, the Yellow & Blue midfielder had a very active match in the 2:0 win over Maccabi Netanya on Matchday 33 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Ha’Al Championship Playoffs and summed up the victory:

“This was a very important win and we’ve said that if we aren’t in Europe it will be a big failure. We made a good step against a side that we are battling for the spot and now we have to look ahead to next week.”

Difference between this week and last:
“Last week we looked much better but then we gave up the two late goals, however, it wasn’t something that went on throughout the match. I think that if we continue this way we will end the season the way we should.”

What could have been should he have been healthy all season:
“I was out 5.5 months and it was a big chunk of the season so there’s no question that I think back to what could have been but we are a team and whenever I have the opportunity I have to do the best that I can. I’m happy that we’ve seen it.”

The penalty:
“There was no difference of opinion on the pitch. Players see the game differently on the pitch and Vidar asked me if he could take it and I said go ahead and he scored. I believe that because I let him take it I was given the opportunity to score the second.”

Hapoel Beer Sheva wanting to celebrate the title next week against Maccabi:
“They basically have wrapped up the title and of course they want to celebrate in our faces but we will come in there and do what we have to. We won’t think about them at all.”

Jordi Cruyff, the Yellow & Blue Head Coach summed up his team’s 2:0 win over Maccabi Netanya on Matchday 33 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Ha’Al Championship Playoffs and began by looking at almost qualifying for a European spot:

“We haven’t wrapped it up yet mathematically and we can’t believe anything yet as we saw last week. We also thought we had it but didn’t take it. It’s a good step in the right direction for sure. We scored the first goal and whoever would have scored first would have had a good chance to win. In the end it was us and based on the second half it was deserved, we were disciplined on defense and a put in a good performance.

Playing to their potential:
“When you are so many points behind the number 1 it shows potential sometimes but it’s not enough. It may be something to analyze at the end of the month and hopefully the club will make the right decisions and correct what we haven’t done well this year. I do believe that the potential is here but there are some things missing.”

The penalty taker:
“We agreed after our penalty saga this year that we don’t have a fixed penalty taker. I do think that Atzily had confidence and was shooting good and for me he was the one that should have taken it. On the other hand it’s a game for mature players and not children so if there is a player that feels good and shoots good then I’m ok with it. As a player you feel best as to what is happening on the field and at the end the result was that we don’t have to make any issue as we didn’t miss.”

Playing at Beer Sheva on Saturday night:
“Last season was painful. To lose the league in your face is extra painful for sure. In the end the one who wins the league is the one who deserved it and you have to be a sportsman to be able to say these things. But we still have something to achieve and we want to be the first team to win there. We want to guarantee our European qualification and we want to even go for the second position. One thing is for sure, we will give a big battle over there.”
