Are you ready for March? All the action that’s waiting for you

Take a deep breath. Open your diaries and begin marking it up. The month of March is packed full of fun. Clip & Save:

March 2 – Second Leg State Cup Quarterfinals: Maccabi Tel Aviv – Hapoel Kfar Saba

After winning the first leg 3:0 at Levita Stadium, the Yellow-and-Blue come into the second match at Bloomfield Stadium in fine form to wrap up a semifinal spot. To purchase tickets CLICK HERE

March 3 – Orlando and Dor Micha will greet the fans at the Pop-Up Shop at the Ayalon Shopping Center.

Get your costumes ready (and if you don’t have one, you’ll be able to find plenty to purchase at the Pop-Up Shop) and bring your pens. Two of the club’s stars will be waiting for you at the Ayalon Shopping Center Pop-Up Shop between 17:00-19:00. Make sure you have your mobile phones to take selfies.

Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about all of you at the G Shopping Center in Kfar Saba. Haris Medunjanin, winger Tal Ben Chaim and Eden Ben Basat will be at the Pop-Up Shop during the month to meet you all with your Maccabi costumes. (Date and time will be published on the Official Website – make sure you check it out early and often).

March 5 – Matchday 26 WINNER League: Maccabi Tel Aviv – Hapoel Kfar Saba (17:30 Bloomfield Stadium)

For the second time in a week the Yellow-and-Blue will meet Sharon Mimer’s team and this time it will be the final game of the second round of league matches prior to the playoffs. After a goalless 0:0 draw in the first round, Maccabi will look for a win and get ready for the playoffs in style.

March 8 – March Community Day

Following the success of the first Community Day in February, where 150 Maccabi FIRST members came to meet the players, take pictures and receive autographs prior to the training session we are doing it again in March. TAKE A LOOK:

March 12 – (date to be determined) Matchday 27: Opening up the playoff round at Bloomfield Stadium

The Yellow-and-Blue will open up the playoffs at home kicking off against the fifth place team. Maccabi Haifa, Bnei Sakhnin and Hapoel Raanana are all potential opponents and can you believe all of this one week prior to the head-to-head match at Hapoel Beer Sheva.

March 19 – (date to be determined) Matchday 28: Heading to Turner Stadium to battle for the title

It’s going to be some match and it will be Maccabi Tel Aviv’s first visit to the brand new Beer Sheva facility, Turner Stadium, for what will undoubtedly be the first “Match of the Year” between the two sides during the playoff round.

March 23 – Israel National Team plays a friendly match against the Croatia National Team in Osijek

The Israel Football WINNER League will take a week off as Alon Hazan will guide the National Team in Croatia.

Isn’t that enough?  Don’t close your diaries just yet as you know we love surprises and we will have plenty over the course of the month including “Find the Treasure” where you’ll have an opportunity to win a pair of tickets to a match at Bloomfield.

Once every 4 years- Winning on February 29th

 Every four years during the month of February, the 29th day rolls around. Just like today. In honor of this special day we’re going to take a trip down memory lane and look back at a match that the Yellow-and-Blue not only hosted but won as well.

February 29, 2004. Nir Klinger and his player graced the Bloomfield Stadium pitch a year after they had won the league title. The Yellow-and-Blue came into Matchday 22 in fourth place chasing after top of the table side Maccabi Haifa. Just one year earlier, Klinger, Avi Nimni and Baruch Dego were able to come back from being 9 points down to win a photo finish championship title.

This time, Klinger’s squad knew that they had to win in order to still have a chance to win the title and it was clear from the opening minutes who came to Bloomfield prepared for battle. John Pantsil and Salem Abu Siam attacked the Petach Tikva defense from the wings. Prohonenkovs knew exactly how to draw the defenders out but the player who starred above them all was Tamir Cohen who marshaled the Maccabi midfield that also featured Bruno Reis and Oren Zeituni.

Cohen made his mark on the match early on in the 22nd minute. The young midfielder’s screamer from 20 meters out went off of the post and into the Petach Tikva goal to give Maccabi a 1:0 lead. The second half began with the Yellow-and-Blue putting pressure on Petach Tikva and that led to Igor Tomshiv being issued a red card in the 72nd minute when he pulled down Adorno on his way to the goal.

As the clock hit the 80th minute, Bruno Reis took control of the ball and beat keeper Rafi Cohen to score Maccabi’s second goal of the match and just five minutes later Adorno’s 17 meter effort went behind Cohen for the third marker as the match ended in a dominating 3:0 victory for the Yellow-and-Blue.

Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv 1:1 Sektzia Nes Tziona

The Under-19 team’s win steak was put to an end by the last place club as the two sides drew 1:1 at Ramle. The young Yellow-and-Blue held the lead for a few minutes as Nes Tziona tied it up soon thereafter. For the full match recap CLICK HERE.

Maccabi “Kalfo” Petach Tikva 2:2 Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv

Ori Uzan and Leon Asraf’s team ended their match in a 2:2 draw. Thomas Prince gave the Under-17’s the lead but a pair of Petach Tikva goals put Maccabi “Oded” into a 1 goal deficit situation. However, just as the half was about to end Netanel Peretz found the equalizer that gave his club one-point.

Maccabi Ironi Bat Yam 2:9 Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv

A big win by the Under-16 side of Eliezer Ben Aharon and Gady Brumer was one of Saturday’s hi-lights. Muflach Shalata, Amit Glazer, Shchar Druker, Sa’ar Sa’adon with four goals and Danny Amar with a brace helped the Yellow-and-Blue fill the Bat Yan goal.

Hapoel Jerusalem 0:6 Maccabi “Eldad” Tel Aviv

Matchday 17 was a successful one for Maccabi “Eldad” as a trip to the capital helped the club pick up a 6:0 victory. Dego Shtager with a brace, Or Itzhak, Ido Shachar, Omri Ram and Avi Ben Raphael all scored for the Under-15 team.

Hapoel Raanana 1:2 Maccabi “Team 2” Tel Aviv

Ran Elias and his squad picked up an important three points away at Raanana. Guy Mizrachi and Eden Silam scored for Maccabi’s second Under-15 club.

Choose: HISENSE February 2016 Player of the Month

You went to every Maccabi match during the second month of 2016. Teddy, Derby, League and Cup, you were at them all. Now it’s time for the fans and Maccabi FIRST members to finish the month off strong by voting for February’s “Player of the Month”. Why is it worth voting? Because one of the voters will win a 32″ HISENSE TV. And if that’s not enough, the winner will also present the “Player of the Month” with a HISENSE Tablet.

How does it work?

Vote for one of the players below by Tuesday March 1, 2016, 12:00. (One vote per Maccabi FIRST Member only)

Those who voted for the winning player of the month will receive a trivia question via SMS on Tuesday March 1st. The first to answer the question correctly will win the TV!

Dasa: “Our goal is to win every match”

Maccabi Tel Aviv picked up a 1:0 victory over Bnei Yehuda away at Bloomfield Stadium. The goal scorer was not one of the usual suspects as this time the Yellow-and-Blue’s right back Eli Dasa chipped in to help collect the three points:

“I’m not so sure we had a hard time today. Bnei Yehuda had very few chances and we were the ones that scored. We had a tough time trying to score a second goal and according to the statistics we should have had another goal since we had so many chances.”

The coach used a different formation:

“We are players with enough intelligence to be able to switch formations. At a big club like Maccabi Tel Aviv you have to have smart players who know how to change up the way they play and because we won that just proves the point.”

About the rivalry with Hapoel Beer Sheva:

“We have no pressure on us and our goal is to win each and every match. Maccabi is a club that is big enough to just concentrate on ourselves and not look at the other teams.”

Scoring a goal and helping the team to victory:

“It’s my second goal of the year and it’s a lot of fun to score especially since I’m a defensive back. So it’s a real bonus because I don’t get a chance to score very often from this position. I believe that Maccabi needs to make sure to have defensive backs who can always help out the attack. Many teams come to play very defensively against us and I hope that I can continue to help out my club.”

Maccabi Shachar Draws 1-1

Head Coach Ziv Arie made a couple of changes to the starting XI that opened up last week’s match as Shay Golan and Or Dasa were given the chance to show their wares. Ben Shugel who was with Maccabi at the beginning of the year faced his former team and started for Nes Tziona.AQ7A2967

From the opening minute, Maccabi controlled the flow of play and tempo of the match moving the ball from side to side. In the 20th minute Ran Vaturi took a screamer of a shot but Almog and Dasa couldn’t find the handle on the rebound to give the young Yellow-and-Blue the lead.

In the 33rd minute, Maccabi finally took the advantage as Oliel Peretz found Dasa in the middle of the box who put the ball home behind the Nes Tziona keeper for the short-lived 1:0 lead. Just two minutes later a Nes Tziona corner kick was headed in by Shugel beating Maccabi “Shachar” keeper Haviv Ohayon to draw the visitors even at 1:1 as the sides went into the break with the score as is.AQ7A3083

The second half started with neither team making a substitution. Nes Tziona packed in their defense while the Yellow-and-Blue tried to breakdown the visitors fortress. Arie made a number of changes to his lineup as he inserted Mahmoud Awesat, Eden Kartzev, Tomer Altman and Lazar Durovic who just returned to the club as the coach looked to find a winner.AQ7A3038

In the 83rd minute, Maccabi may have had their best chance of the half. Durovic turned in the box and gave Awesat a terrific ball but he missed the opportunity to give his side the lead as the match ended in a 1:1 draw. Next Saturday Maccabi “Shachar” will face Maccabi Herzliya in State Cup action.

“Creating scoring chances is important & that’s what we did”

The Yellow-and-Blue defeated Bnei Yehuda 1:0 on Matchday 25 of the WINNER League away at Bloomfield Stadium.

Maccabi Tel Aviv Head Coach Peter Bosz spoke about his club’s 1:0 win:

“We were a bit disappointed at the end of the match but we had many chances to take a bigger lead, however we just weren’t able to find the extra goals. The game ended up being more exciting but also more dangerous.”

On creating scoring chances:

“It could be that in another match just one goal wouldn’t be enough. But creating scoring chances is very important and that’s exactly what we did. We really needed to score a second goal to put away the match.”

The way the club came to play:

“It could be this formation or another formation, but it all comes down to how the players perform on the pitch. When you have two defensive backs playing forward they become just like two strikers. Today we put Eran Zahavi next to Orlando Sa and the two defensive backs next to the midfielders. Next we could be a totally different formation.”

About the battle for first place:

“Beer Sheva isn’t losing points, but we aren’t losing points as well. There’s a long way to go.”

Dasa the difference maker in 1-0 win

The Yellow-and-Blue picked up three valuable points as Eli Dasa’s first half strike was the difference maker in a 1:0 victory over Bnei Yehuda on a beautiful night for football in Tel Aviv.

Head Coach Peter Bosz changed up his lineup a bit as the Dutchman went for a more offensive starting XI than had been seen in the recent past. Striker Orlando Sa made his first start as a member of the Yellow-and-Blue up front with captain Eran Zahavi playing just behind him. Winger Tal Ben Chaim and Dor Micha played beside Zahavi as Nosa 332A0399Igiebor and Haris Medunjanin anchored the midfield. In front of Serbian keeper Predrag Rajikovic, a defensive quartet of Avi Rikan, Eli Dasa, Eitan Tibi and Carlos Garcia graced the pitch.

After ten minutes of both sides checking each other out, Maccabi had the first three chances of the match. Micha’s 13th minute opportunity went way wide of Dele Aiyenugba’s goal, Ben Chaim’s attempt went just by the post and Zahavi’s effort was picked off by the Bnei Yehuda keeper.

Gal Zroya produced the host’s first chance of the match but his shot missed the target as the game headed into the 20th minute goalless. Micha then sent Zahavi a ball in the box but he missed the golden opportunity to take the lead, while Ben Chaim also sent a deep ball from the right side that Zahavi headed to Igiebor but his effort also missed the mark.

As the match entered the 30th minute, out of nowheres right back Eli Dasa unleashed a low shot from 30 meters out that scooted by Aiyenugba and into the goal for a 1:0 lead in 332A0170favor of the Yellow-and-Blue.

With Maccabi now brimming with confidence Igiebor tried to double their lead but his 17 meter effort went off of a Bnei Yehuda player and out for a corner kick while his 20 meter scorcher just minutes later went over the goal and into the stands. Zahavi would have a marvelous free kick opportunity in the 42nd minute but his ball went out as the two sides headed into the break with Maccabi holding a 1:0 lead.

The second half began with the Yellow-and-Blue trying to find an insurance goal. Dasa’s 52nd minute attempt was pushed aside by Aiyenugba while Zahavi’s sitter went wide. In the 58th minute Micha sent Zahavi a deep ball in the box but the Bnei Yehuda keeper was able to frustrate number 7 yet again as he swiped the ball away from the captain.

Both sides made wholesale substitutions as Gal Alberman was introduced for Igiebor and Yuval Shpungin came on for a banged up Rikan. However, it would be Bnei Yehuda’s substitutes who almost found the back of the goal. Almog Bozaglo who had just entered the match for Amir Agaiev had a magnificent header opportunity in front of Rajikovic but he put the ball right over the goal.

With the Yellow-and-Blue visitors still in search of a second goal, Zahavi’s wonderful lo332A0157w opportunity was pushed aside by Aiyenugba as Head Coach Peter Bosz made his third and final substitute bringing in Dor Peretz for Orlando Sa in the 79th minute. Zahavi was stymied once more and had his 86th minute effort just deflected away for a corner by Aiyenugba as Maccabi kept looking for the elusive second goal.

Rajikovic swatted away a late Bnei Yehuda corner kick chance and helped his side collect the three points and move to within two points of table leaders Hapoel Beer Sheva. Maccabi will now ready themselves for a midweek second leg quarterfinal State Cup match at Bloomfield Stadium against Hapoel Kfar Saba who they also face in league action next week as well.
