Jokanovic: “We have a lot of room to improve”
The Yellow-and-Blue get back to league play on Matchday Eleven against Hapoel Haifa at Sammy Ofer Stadium as Head Coach Slavisa Jokanovic spoke to the assembled media this morning and began by taking about coming back from the break:
“I believe that these two weeks off came at just the right time. We needed rest and to renew our strength. I expect that we will play better than the last few matches. I’m working with my current squad and it’s clear that we have to perform better than we have been. We have a chance to show our improvement this Saturday against Hapoel Haifa.”
Maccabi’s main rivals, Hapoel Beer Sheva:
“We have the same amount of points that we had last year at this time. I’m not really thinking about Hapoel Beer Sheva right now but just about our own play. I’ve been explaining to the players what they need to do to improve and if everyone thinks Beer Sheva is better than us then that gives us a lot of room to improve.”
Keeper Predrag Rajkovic’s injury:
“We will check if he can play in the next game, but I understand from our medical team that the injury is not serious. We have players that are ready if we need them.”
January transfer window plans:
“Right now we are in November and we will play many games until we reach January. Once we get to January we will see what we need to do. We will have to see if we need to invest or if we are fine the way we are. I will push my interests which are the same as Maccabi Tel Aviv.”
Shlomi Azoulay’s status:
“Shlomi has improved himself and he is working hard. January is two months away and we shall see.”
Rumors from England:
“I spoke to my agent last week and there is interest in England but now I am here and that is where my focus is, with Maccabi Tel Aviv. I’m here. There may be speculation but I’m here to coach Maccabi Tel Aviv.”
Concerning the status of Barak Itzhaki and Eli Dasa:
“They have returned from their injuries and this week
Igiebor: “It was hard to watch from the stands”
The Winner League returns to action this weekend and the Maccabi Tel Aviv players are in the midst of preparations for their match against Hapoel Haifa on Saturday at 17:00. Following today’s training session, some of the players including Omri Ben Harush, Eran Zahavi, Carlos Garcia and Nosa Igiebor went to a special photo shoot for HISENSE and took pictures with the electronic goods of the club’s new sponsor that joined the Maccabi family this season.
Nosa Igiebor who returned to action recently, spoke about the club returning to league play following the break, the differences between this year and last season plus his own comeback from injury: “It’s not easy for a footballer to be out for a couple
of months especially when I was at my best. It was difficult but I’m happy to be back. I had to sit and cheer my teammates on and it was hard to watch from the stands. The team did a good job without me and they did the best that they could, but most importantly for me is my return to action.”
About the club’s play:
“I don’t agree that we have been playing poorly. At the beginning of last season this was the same situation when we played under Pako and we ended up winning the Treble. People have to understand that we have a new coach, a new system and every training session we are working on new things. It’s not easy to get used to the system and we all have to be patient and see how we develop throughout the year.”
On the amount of games being played this season:
“I can see the pressure of so many games on my teammates. It’s not easy. I don’t have the exact numbers but when we have played 20 games while other teams have only played five or so there is an affect on the team. Last year things were more
relaxed because we had a comfortable schedule and this season we are experiencing injuries. We’ll do our best and make the best of our situation.”
The club’s main rival for the championship:
“Right now Beer Sheva is our top rival in the league, but they’re not playing in the Champions League. These past two weeks came at the best possible time and I believe you’ll see the results already this Saturday when we play Hapoel Haifa.”

The Camera’s Lens: Maccabi’s back from break
Maccabi Players meet UNICEF Children
Maccabi Tel Aviv returned to training today at Kiryat Shalom as they prepared for the upcoming Winner League Matchday Eleven. Just prior to beginning the practice session, the club hosted 35 UNICEF children at Maccabi’s training facility. The students, some of which came from a mixed Jewish & Arab school in Lod presented the “Convention on the Rights of the Child”.
The 14 year-olds who were present at the event are part of the close relationship between Maccabi Tel Aviv and UNICEF that began last season and has continued into the current year. The Maccabi Tel Aviv players distributed gifts to the children from the club and Winner.
After meeting the first team players, the children got together with Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Under-14 team and discussed the “Convention on the Rights of the Child” where they learnt about children’s rights and more.
