Maccabi Defeats Netanya 3-1

The Yellow-and-Blue picked up three valuable points against Netanya at the Moshava Stadium as Eden Ben Basat, Eran Zahavi and Tal Ben Chaim all scored in the 3:1 away victory.

Head Coach Peter Bosz made a couple of changes to his starting lineup from last match against Hapoel Kfar Saba in the first leg of the State Cup quarterfinals.332A2026

Dor Micha received the starting nod in place of winger Tal Ben Chaim as did central defender Carlos Garcia for Omri Ben Harush who was out due to yellow card accumulation. Rounding out the defense in front of Serbian keeper Predrag Rajikovic was Eli Dasa, Avi Rikan and Eitan Tibi. In the midfield was Gal Alberman, Nosa Igiebor and Haris Medunjanin with Eden Ben Basat, Captain Eran Zahavi and Micha providing the attack.

After  a quiet opening ten minutes, Maccabi finally broke the deadlock when Ben Basat received a terrific ball from Medunjanin and put his effort right by a
helpless Barak Levi to give the Yellow-and-Blue a 1:0 lead. Netanya tried to even the score up in the 20th minute but an alert Rajikovic was able to make a last second save and tip the ball over the bar for a corner kick to maintain the one goal lead.

Just  minutes later, Medunjanin took a Micha ball, swung around in the box but put his opportunity just wide right of the goal. Zahavi had a pair of chances to double the lead but his first effort was saved by Levi and the second from 25 meters out went wide of the goal. Iso Lingana’s long shot went over the goal as the Yellow-and-Blue took the slim 1:0 lead into the break.

The start of the second half saw Netanya looking for the equalizer and it took them only three minutes to get it. With the home side putting immense pressure on Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 48th minute, Milan Smiljanic sent Saar Benbenishti a fantastic ball in the box that he headed behind the Serbian keeper to draw Ne332A2476tanya even at 1:1.

With the score back to square one, Coach Bosz made a tactical substitution in the 55th minute introducing winger Tal Ben Chaim for goal scorer Ben Basat. And what would you know, the change would pay dividends soon thereafter. In the 61st minute, Dor Micha raced down the right side, sent the ball to Medujanin whose effort on goal was saved by Levi but Zahavi was in the right place at the right time to slam home the rebound to take a 2:1 lead.

Netanya didn’t give up hope as the Diamond City side looked to draw even once again as a Gael Margolis 17 meter chance was blocked by Rajikovic while Smiljanic’s opportunity went just wide left of the goal. On the other side of the pitch, Maccabi looked to increase their advantage.  Medunjanin’s 76th minu332A2719te free kick was saved by Levi, Zahavi’s corner was cleared a minute later and Ben Chaim found Zahavi in the box but the captain couldn’t find the handle on the ball as the score remained 2:1 as the match entered the final ten minutes.

Finally in the 84th minute Maccabi found their third goal of the evening. Dor Micha sent Ben Chaim a ball right into the box as number 11 turned Levi inside out and slotted it home for the 3:1 lead as the Yellow-and-Blue collected the three points as they head into their Matchday 24 clash against Hapoel Haifa on Saturday February 20th at 17:00.

Hapoel Kiryat Shemona 2:1 Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv

The young Yellow-and-Blue lost to Kiryat Shemona in a tough away match. Prince Thomas gave Maccabi the lead, but a pair of goals by the hosts sent the Under-17 team home from the north empty handed.

Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv 2:2 Hapoel Tel Aviv

Maccabi and Hapoel split the points in a Derby draw. Eliezer Ben Aharon and Gady Brumer’s side took the lead twice on goals by Gil Rahimi and Idan Tzioni, however the Reds came back to draw even and take a point.

In Ran Elias’s first match as coach, the Under-15 team won away at the wine city 1:0. Omri Ram scored the lone goal of the match in the 5th minute to take the three points.

The Yellow-and-Blue scored five times to get back onto the winning track after last Matchday’s defeat. Goal scorers for the Under-15 side included a brace by Amit Ya’akov, Stav Aharon, Eden Silam and Idan Dahan.

Dasa: “There’s no room for mistakes”

Maccabi Tel Aviv will face Maccabi Netanya tonight at the Moshava Stadium 20:30, due to a radius penalty on Matchday 23 of the WINNER League. The Yellow-and-Blue come into the match after a dominating State Cup victory over Hapoel Kfar Saba and will look to get back on the winning track in league action as well.

Eli Dasa, who didn’t play in the first match against the Diamond City side, spoke exclusively to the Official Website about this evening’s game: “Netanya have quality players with excellent abilities and I believe that their position is not a true reflection of how they can really play. I saw their first match against us and I was able to see that they can really play. Netanya is a game that can be very dangerous for us as you never know when they will show some of their true qualities. But I believe we will do what we need to do in order to win the game.”

On the club’s mood:

“The State Cup gave us a boost as we were able to show what we could do and we picked up a great result that puts us a foot and a half into the semifinals. Our morale wasn’t low but we were a bit disappointed because of the Derby result since we knew we could have done better.”

The importance of the matches leading up to the playoffs:

“We can’t mess up in any of these matches and there’s no room for mistakes. We have to win the upcoming games so we can cut the lead and when the other side falters, we’ll be there to get closer to the title. If we take the league match against Kfar Saba as an example, we drew 0:0 and we were very close to losing that match. We’ve made enough mistakes and we can’t let the upcoming matches go to our heads and treat them lightly because they may end up being tough games.”

Bosz: “It’s not going to be easy”

Maccabi Tel Aviv is looking towards their upcoming match against Maccabi Netanya at the Moshava Stadium in Petach Tikva due to a radius penalty imposed on the Diamond City side. The Matchday 23 clash is set to take place on Sunday at 20:30 and Head Coach Peter Bosz is readying his club for action:

“I think that most of the teams that play against Maccabi Tel Aviv will defend. Many teams will defend with less players behind the ball, so we will have to find the openings. We will have to look at ourselves and not at our opponents. It’s not going to be easy, but we have the quality to do it.”בוס

Getting back on the winning track:

“We didn’t win the last two league games and we drew both of them so that was disappointing. There was pressure to win the Cup game and it’s never easy to win an away match especially when they played fantastic in the transition. But we did it and we won 3:0 which was a fantastic result.”

Captain Eran Zahavi didn’t score in the Derby or against Kfar Saba:

“Eran can play in many positions. He can play on the left, he can play as a center forward. People were saying that he didn’t score against Hapoel, but he didn’t score against Kfar Saba in the Cup also. He’s always an important player for the team and he’s always threatening the opponent”

Yellow-and-Blue Crosses Continents

Maccabi Tel Aviv FC works with many non-profit organizations on a frequent basis and contributes to the social and logistical aspects of these institutions. A week ago, the Youth Department received a request to contribute various types of football equipment.

Itamar Dubinsky who is in the midst of working on his doctorate, travelled to the football academy in Ghana as part of a study he is working on through the Ben Gurion University. Dubinsky took off for the Unistar Soccer Academy in Ghana where he is the editor of this study, to interview children and the employees of the acadmey in order to learn about the development of populations through the football academy itself.

Dubinsky’s study explores four different football academies with Unistar being the one he is currently working on. This academy also received various articles of equipment from Maccabi Tel Aviv including jerseys, shorts, balls, hats and more. Dubinsky spoke to the Official Website about the academy and the importance of football to this area: “It’s an academy that serves 70 children and was founded by a Ghanian named Ernest Cooper in 2009 in a small city in the south of the country.”

The doctorate candidate Dubinsky also spoke about the importance of Maccabi’s equipment contribution: “Ernest is the sole financier of the academy which is a tremendous amount for just one person to handle. His contributions include free tuitio20160204_174643n for the children to attend school, meals three times a day, housing, operating expenses and more. The 15-year olds and younger age groups received the donated equipment. This team is composed of children from all over Ghana and its neighboring countries where scouts can come and see which children may have a future as professional footballers. Ernest hopes to sell the rights of the various players in order for him to continue the academy and the further development of the community.”

Dubinsky also commented on the relationship that has been established between the club and the football academy: “The Academy was so happy with the contribution and it was just what they needed, so now they’ll wear Maccabi kits when they play. I believe that the donation did wonders of good for Maccabi in Ghana and picked up 70 new fans. The academy plays matches every week against other teams in Ghana so that will also help raise awareness about Maccabi throughout other communities in the country.”
