Vidar Kjartansson

Vidar Kjartansson, who scored 14 goals in 20 league appearances for Malmo ever since his January transfer from Chinese outfit Jiangsu Suning FC, scored 1 goal in 9 appearances for Iceland and is part of the squad to face Ukraine in Kiev on September 5th.

A product of Icelandic club UMF Selfos, Kjartansson, 187cm, made his senior debut at the age of 16 before joining IBV Vestmannaeyjar in 2009 and returning to his boyhood club a year later. In three seasons, the striker scored 35 times in 70 appearances before switching in March 2013 to Fylkir Rekjavik for which he scored 23 goals in 30 appearances. In January 2014 Kjartansson moved to Norway to join Valerenga Oslo and kept his outstanding goal scoring record with 31 goals in 33 appearances before being sold to Jiangsu. Under coach Dan Petrescu, Kjartansson scored 13 goals in 35 appearances before returning to Scandinavia and joining Malmo. Overall,  Kjartansson scored 144 career goals in 284 appearances.

Kjartansson has been part of the Iceland National Team program from a young age and has featured for the senior team as well. In 2016/17, the striker scored 24 goals in all competitions and assisted on two as well. Vidar scored a hat trick against Kiryat Shemona on Matchday 23 and also was an integral part of the Europa League campaign. The Icelander made 43 appearances during the season.

The 2017/18 campaign saw Kjartansson again top the team in goals as the striker scored 21 across all competitions (13 league) in 47 appearances (30 league). His lone strike in the Toto Cup final against Hapoel Beer Sheva gave the Yellow & Blue their only title of the season and the Icelander also scored the fastest Maccabi Tel Aviv goal just 13 seconds after the start of the away match at Maccabi Haifa in January 2018.
