Minutes after his side was held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Hapoel Be’ersheva that kept the status quo at the top of the table, Gabi Kanichowsky faced the media and shared his feelings. “It is a miss especially at Bloomfield as we want to win such a match so obviously, we are disappointed.”
The 27-year-old midfielder who saw Weslley Patati cancel Dan Biton’s early lead as the points shared left both sides neck and neck in the table with 71 points, added: “In the second half we played into their hands as we launched long balls. We struggled with their physical game especially when you play against strong players like Lucas Ventura and Kings Kangwa.” The diminutive midfielder who made his 46th appearance for Maccabi this season added: “When we play on the ground it looks much better. We spoke about it in the dressing room that we played to their strength, a certain style that doesn’t suit us – maybe because of the pressure which is disappointing.”
With three matches left until the end of the season, two back-to-back away trips to Maccabi Netanya and Maccabi Haifa followed by a home match against Beitar Jerusalem on the final day of the season, Kanichowsky insisted: “I don’t this the league title will be decided on goal difference. There are tough opponents for both sides. Let us hope that Beersheva will drop points, and we must win. If this will be the deciding factor it proves that the league is good and interesting. The Playoff this season is tough and challenging. One has to approach every match as a Cup Final.”
