Maccabi Tel Aviv got their pre-season to a fine start with a 5-0 victory over second division side Vasas at the training camp in Telki.
Club owner Mitch Goldhar who joined the team in the morning and watched the match with his representative Jack Angelides beside him.
Dor Peretz put Maccabi in front as early as the seventh minute after Issouf Sissokho carved the Vasas defense to release the captain who drilled a right-foot shot past Janos Uram. Ten minutes later Weslley Patati who looked lively down the right flank curled a left foot shot that beat the keeper but struck the base of the post.
Uram came to Vasas’ rescue as he denied Peretz from scoring a second in the 20th minute after a clinical pass by Ido Shahar. In the 29th minute Tyrese Asante picked Patati with a through ball allowing the Brazilian to skip past his marker and fire a low left foot drive that found the bottom far corner. Five minutes after the half hour mark Ofek Melika was at full stretch push away Milan Toth’s powerful shot which was making its way towards the top corner.
Maccabi’s coach Zarko Lazetic made 10 substitutions at the interval as he replaced all his fields allowing Noam Ben Harush, Ben Lederman, Denny Gropper and Itamar Noy make their first appearance in a Maccabi shirt while young Liran Shpiegel was handed his senior debut appearance. Three minutes after the restart, Ben Harush picked Ido Oli whose shot was deflected for a corner. In the 50th minute Saied Abu Farchi led a counterattack and slipped the ball to Henry Addo whose shot was saved by the keeper. Seven minutes later Hisham Layous managed to steal the ball off the Vasas defense and tee up Oli before the diminutive midfielder sent a low drive that beat Agoston Kiss for Maccabi’s third. Roi Mishpati replaced Melika on 63 as two minutes later Itamar Noy’s free kick was headed by Itay Ben Hemo wide of the post.
In the 68th minute Maccabi increased their lead to four as Shpiegel won a tackle inside Maccabi’s half and fed Oli who picked Abu Farchi’s run forward. The 19-year-old striker sent a perfect cross into the box where Addo rose high to end the move with a header that bounced in. A combination of Mishpati and the post denied Andras Rado on 78 before Shpiegel cleared Csaba Molnar rebound off the goal-line. Abu Farchi was rewarded for his hard work on 81 as Noy won possession just inside the Vasas penalty box, fed the striker whose first attempt was blocked before he recovered to sweep the rebound home for the fifth. Mispahti was quick off his line on 83 to deny Molnar and ensure that no goals are conceded at this match.
