Pesic: “At Maccabi we need to win every game”
Broadening horizions: A lecture by Shakhtar Donetsk’s U-19 coach
Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Youth Academy continues to create content for its’ players and staff members during lockdown. The aim is to continue the development of both players and staff members until they return to play football.

In terms of coaching staff, the Academy holds regular internal online enrichment sessions. At the same time, the Youth Academy continues strengtheing it’s international contacts as we create collaboration with various clubs from across the world. Shakhtar Donetsk Under 19 coach Oskar Ratulutra shared in detail both his coaching methods
and the way in which Shakhtar plays at U-19 and U21 levels.
The lecture was attended by the Youth Academy’s coaching staff as well as the coaches who attended last Friday’s professional webinar. Ma’ayan Maimon, Hapoel Be’ersheva’s U-15’s assistant coach who attended both the webinar and the lecture, shared her thoughts about the Academy’s activities: “The lecture was brilliant. Such lectures and sharing of cross boarders information, is contributing for Israeli coaches, to the broadening of our horizons. When you get exposed to clubs of such calibre, which has a blue print on his working methods, one could acquire the knowledge and draw the conclusions about us. There are certain things which confirm to us that we are doing the right things here in Israel, and there are also things which
upgrade our knowledge and exisiting coaching skills”.
“The coach presented in a very clear and detailed way their coaching methods. The main emphasis was on the development of the attacking game. He touched on both technical and tactical issues in a very detailed manner. In recent years, a lot of the emphasis in the coaching of Israeli coaches was focused on defensive tactical discipline and defensive concepts. In my opinion, the attacking approach was left behind. For the first time, I was exposed to a detailed attacking approach with all its components.
It was fascinating to see how they disect the attacking method to every component and drill it in training. Even drills I was aware of, I managed to get updated on as well as receive a new empahsis I never heard of before. Personally, I would love to be exposed to as many enriching contents like that in the future”.
Kartzev: “We dedicate this victory to Sheran”
At the end of the game, Eden Kartzev who scored the only goal of the game dedicated the victory to captain Sheran Yeini who was absent from the match following the death of his father: We are all hurting with Sheran and dedicate this victory to him”. Kartzev who made a second half substitute appearance added: “I received my chance and I am glad the coach showed faith in me. I will do everything to try and help the club and the team achieve success”
“All the players give more than a 100% on the pitch”
Maccabi beats Petah Tikva 1-0
First Half
Four minutes from the start a Yonatan Cohen direct corner seemed to have beaten Arik Yanko before the Petah Tikva hooked the ball out of his goal. But referee Gal Leibovic and VAR didn’t award a goal. Three minutes later a mistake in Maccabi’s defense allowed Eliel Abada to charge forward but his attempt of a shot was easily collected by Daniel Tenenbaum.
Naor Sabag limped out injured on 14 and was replaced at Petah Tikva by Mohamad Sarsur.
A corner in the 18th minute was cleared by Petah Tikva’s defense into the path of Shahar Piven outside the area. The defender hit it first time with the outside of his right boot, but as the ball was sailing into the top corner Yanko was at full stretch as he pulled a stunning save to deny Maccabi the opener.
Maccabi’s pressure continued in the 26th minute as Aleksandar Pesic switched sides to Cohen who beat two defenders before his shot was blocked by Marcus Diniz. A minute later Pesic and Cohen combined once again, as the Serbian striker who raced clear through teed-up Cohen whose initial shot was blocked before Pesic rattled the crossbar with the rebound. At the opposite end and against the run of play Petah Tikva found the back of Maccabi’s net but the goal was disallowed for offside. The action continued at both ends as Tenenbaum saved with his feet from Abada who raced clear through on the half hour mark.
Yanko stretched himself once again this time to deny Tal Ben Chaim who curled a shot with his left which threatened to creep innat the far post. Yanko was in the thick of things once again, this time to deny Dor Pertez’s shot in the 42nd minute.
Dan Glazer pulled a last gasp tackle a minute later to block Abada’s close range effort as a goal at either end seemed like a matter of time. But Leibovic’s halftime whistle meant that goals will probably be scored in the second half.
Second Half
Van Leeuwen made one change at halftime as Glazer made way for Eden Kartzev at the restart.
Three minutes later Petah Tikva’s defense struggled to deal with a Luis Hernandez long throw in which fell to Kartzev whose volley was caught by Yanko.
In the 50th minute however, Yanko punched out a Piven cross into the path of Kartzev who beat the Petah Tikva keeper with a powerful right foot shot from 25 meters.
Diniz limped off at Petah Tikva and was replaced by Daniel Flesher on 63 while Van Leeuwen made his second change two minutes later as Eylon Almog came in for Ben Chaim at Maccabi.
In the 75th minute Tenenbaum needed a double save to keep out Abada’s shot from inside the area. Abada flashed a shot over Tenenbaum’s crossbar in the 88th minute before Avi Rikan and Etey Shechter were introduced for the final two minutes replacing both Golasa and Cohen.
