Fadi Najar Youth Player of the Season

The Maccabi Tel Aviv Gala Evening took place last night and one of the award winners was Fadi Najar. The young central defamer was named the Youth Player of the Season and joined Dor Peretz and Eliel Peretz as past honorees. The award was presented by Shlomi Alberg, CEO of Profit and after Najar accepted the prize he spoke about the evening:

“I’m very happy and I had a good season. I was surprised as this was my first season with the club but teammates were very supportive. I will keep working hard as my dream is to play with the First Team.”

About the Gala:

“So far the evening is beautiful and it’s a one of kind event, the first that I’ve been to like this. Remember I’m just 19 years old.”

On former awardees Dor Peretz and Eliel Peretz:

“They are two great players and I hope that I can reach the heights that they have already.”

365K NIS Raised at Gala Evening 2016/17

Just as in years past, Maccabi Tel Aviv held their Annual Gala in Tel Aviv. Present at the event were the Yellow & Blue players, professional staff and over 500 guests including the Club’s sponsors. The Gala Evening’s lead sponsor was HP Indigo while other sponsors included Profit, Yam Yagudaev, Eurodrive, Leaan and IBBLS. This year’s Gala was Maccabi’s third and Lior Suchard was the host of the special evening.

All of the proceeds from the Gala will go to benefit the Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Foundation and the activities and programs that are done in conjunction with various non-profit organizations around Tel Aviv and Israel. Over the course of the evening, various projects were featured including Special Olympics, Chinuch L’Psagot and the Lone Soldier project together with Michael Levin and Beit Almog Shiloni. There was a Maccabi Ambassador for each program which included, Captain Sheran Yeini, Gal Alberman and Dor Micha.

The evening opened with words from the Owner’s Representative Jack Angelides who spoke about the importance of the Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Foundation and its activities to the Club’s owner Mitch Goldhar as one of his goals was to use the positive power of football to impact those off of the pitch as well.

“When Mitch Goldhar came to Maccabi he clearly stated that one of his motivations was to make a positive contribution to the community. I hope that the programs and projects of the Maccabi Tel Aviv Foundation and our sponsors will achieve exactly that. Sometimes we forget that people see us as part of their family, and I feel that this is something important and a reminder about the responsibility and commitment that we have to keep improving all of the time. This is both on and off of the pitch. We have to work hard. I believe that this is an important event and together with your help we can significantly influence the lives of many people.”

One of the highlights of the evening was the Season Award winners including the Player of the Season, Goal of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Youth Player of the Season long with the Honorary Lifetime Award. The recipients were chosen by a panel which included former Club President Gideon Brickman, former player and current Club Manager Benny Tabak, Sport Director Jordi Cruyff along with former players Eli Drikes and Boni Ginzburg.

During the event prizes were handed out to the donors including a dinner for two with a pair of players, a private training sessions for 6 children with two players, a VIP Box for 14 guests, a chance to be a part of the Club Photo along with Barak Itzhaki’s shoe that was used to score his famous bicycle kick goal against Maccabi Haifa.

The 2016/17 season will come to an end with the State Cup Final between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Bnei Yehuda on May 25th at Teddy Stadium, but prior to that the Club hosted it’s Annual Gala Evening. The event helped raise funds for the Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Foundation and its activities and programs with various non-profit organizations throughout the Tel Aviv area and the country. Of course, one of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Season Awards.

The award winners for the following categories were voted upon by a committee that included former Club President Gideon Brickman, former player and current Club Manager Benny Tabak, Sport Director Jordi Cruyff along with former players Eli Drikes and Boni Ginzburg.

To open the evening, the first award was presented to the Youth Player of the Season, Fadi Najar by Profit CEO Shlomi Alberg.

“You have to be mentally strong and take advantage of the opportunities”

Aaron Schoenfeld, Maccabi’s American born striker spoke about the upcoming month prior to the Club’s Matchday 34 Championship Playoffs clash at Maccabi Haifa on Sunday at 20:15. Number 25 discussed playing as a striker in a 4-4-3 system while also talking about his playing time:

“It’s the coach’s decision and Vidar is in good form, so whatever happens, happens.”

Fitting in to the Maccabi system:

“The club plays 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 and most teams play that way. That’s the life of the striker. I feel that I’m versatile and I can play in any formation. It’s the life of football, especially the system that a club plays. I’ve dealt with situations like this in the US and you have to be mentally strong and take advantages of the opportunities.”

Statements coming out of Beer Sheva:

“It’s their own opinion and we are concentrating on the next few games. They can say whatever they want. I really don’t care about the statement. We are all winners and we want to win every game. They were very good and they won the title and we want to bring back the title to Maccabi.”

About Hapoel Tel Aviv’s current situation:

“It doesn’t really concern me anymore and I do have friends there, but it’s not part of my every day life anymore.”

Vidigal: “I am always thinking forward. We have more games and the Cup.”

Head Coach Lito Vidigal spoke to the assembled press prior to his club’s Matchday 34 and addressed the upcoming month that will end off with a State Cup date against Bnei Yehuda:

“I am always thinking forward. Life only goes ahead. You can think of the past but most importantly you have to go forward. We have more games and we have the Cup that we have to take.”

Giving it all every training session:

“They are good professionals and they give everything in the training sessions. We make mistakes but that’s life. Everyone comes here is like a professional and they are looking to the future too.”

Plans for next season for players who will be out of contract:

“The league isn’t over yet and they have contracts until the end of the season. Only after that will we talk about what will be next season. We have 4 games to go and that is what is most important. The season ends after the Cup. We all have contracts and we will all fight to win the remaining 4 games. After this we can talk.”

Preparations for the next campaign:

“We make our choices together. We will see what was in the past and what we need in the future. If we think together we can meet our goals.”

Remaining as coach following the campaign:

“I am staying. We have talked about this.”

Giving opportunities for players who haven’t played much:

“Everybody is fighting and working for a chance to play. Of course, I am always making changes in the lineup to have players in the game that haven’t played much, but we are always looking to take the 3 points.”

Injury status:

“It’s part of the season and injuries are part of the games. We don’t have that many injuries and the medical staff is getting the players in condition to play.”

Former player Uri Kedmi passes away at 70

Maccabi Tel Aviv FC is saddened by the passing of former player Uri Kedmi at the age of 70. Kedmi played for Maccabi Tel Aviv between 1963-1969 and made 117 appearances while scoring 25 goals.

One of his most famous goals was scored in the State Cup Final of the 1963/64 season against Hapoel Haifa. Back in those days if the match ended in a draw (after extratime) there would be a replay. Following two 1:1 draws, Kedmi gave Maccabi the winner in the 87th minute as the match ended in a 2:1 Yellow & Blue victory.

You Voted: Micha HISENSE April Player of the Month

The battle was close but in the end Dor Micha took the title thanks to the Maccabi FIRST Members who voted the midfielder the HISENSE April Player of the Month. Number 15 scored two goals and picked up two assists during the 4th month of the calendar year.

Vidar Kjartansson came in a close second while central defender Tal Ben Haim took third. Winger Tal Ben Chaim finished in 4th very close finishing in the top three.

State Cup on the Horizon: The month of May at Maccabi

May 4: Gala Evening 2017
Who will be the Player of the Season, what will be the Goal of the Season and who will receive the Club’s Lifetime Award? All of these and more will be answered at the Third Annual Maccabi Gala. The goal of the evening will be to raise funds for the Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Foundation and the various programs and activities that are conducted with other organizations.

May 7, Sunday, Sammy Ofer Stadium: Maccabi Haifa – Maccabi Tel Aviv (20:15)
The month may finish off with the State Cup but it begins with a trip to Haifa. The Yellow & Blue will certainly want to pick up some wins to make sure they head into the Final in top form.The last visit to Sammy Ofer saw Maccabi defeat Beitar Jerusalem in the State Cup Semifinal and the last encounter with Haifa was a 3:0 Maccabi win. When the two sides faced each other during the regular season at Sammy Ofer the match ended in a dramatic 2:2 draw.

May 14, Sunday, Moshava Stadium: Maccabi Petah Tikva – Maccabi Tel Aviv (20:15)
The two clubs have already faced each other five times this season and that doesn’t even include the Toto Cup as Maccabi will look town their 4th match in a row over the Petah Tikva outfit. The last match between the two ended in a 2:0 Yellow & Blue victory.

May 20-21, Netanya: Maccabi Tel Aviv – Beitar Jerusalem (Date & Time TBD)
Just before Lito Vidigal and his side’s Cup Final in Jerusalem, they’ll host Beitar at Netanya in a contest that will close out the 2016/17 campaign (Matchday 36). The last ended in a 1:1 draw while the game in Netanya on Matchday 3 finished in a 2:2 draw.

May 25, Teddy Stadium Jerusalem: State Cup Final – Maccabi Tel Aviv – Bnei Yehuda (20:30)
There’s no question that the goal this month will be to return the State Cup to Maccabi. Over 31,000 fans will fill the stadium in the capital city for final of one of Israeli Football’s marquee tournaments which will also include President Reuven Rivlin. The Yellow & Blue have faced Bnei Yehuda twice this season, losing 1:0 away and winning 2:0 at home.
