After scoring the second goal over Maccabi Petah Tikva, Eden Shamir who added to the three goals in Europe with a debut league goal, said after the match: “It was a good game both personally and in terms of the team with plenty of quality minutes. The good early start and the two goals we scored made our job a lot easier. We moved back a little after that which should never have happened but in the first 25 minutes we played at very high tempo which helped us win the match”.

On the formation the team played on the night, the 26-year-old midfielder added: “We didn’t have the luxury other than adapting ourselves as quick as possible to the new methods of the coach. Over the past week we managed to work on a few things some of which we implemented in a good way but clearly there is plenty of work to be done”.

Shamir, who joined Maccabi in the summer on loan from Standard Liege, said ahead of next week’s match against Maccabi Haifa: “We should expect a tough match against Haifa as they are regarded to be one of the best teams in Israel. We have plenty of time to work and prepare for this match. We will do everything to try maintain the positive record against them even though we know it will be extremely tough”.
