Registration for MTA Football School South

Registration continues for the Maccabi Tel Aviv Football School South

The Maccabi Tel Aviv Football School South, under the direction of Eliezer Ben Aharon, is designed to provide the conditions under which a future generation of football players can be developed and nurtured. The school operates eleven months out of every year, from the beginning of August until the end of June, with training sessions held at the Kiryat Shalom training ground in south Tel Aviv. Every child attending the school receives a full kit, a kit bag and a ball. If at all possible, they also receive tickets for senior team matches. The Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Division, under the management of football director Nir Levin, do their utmost to provide the children who attend the school with the highest quality coaching staff available.

The Maccabi Tel Aviv Football School South has produced a whole host of leading players for the club's senior squad, as well as for Israeli football in general. A brief look into the past reveals the names of the likes of Motti Ivanir and Avi Nimni, both of whom became household names for Maccabi first teams. Today, too, graduates of the school feature in the ranks of Maccabi's first elevens, notably Dor Micha, Sheran Yeini and Moshe Lugassi.

Maccabi’s U19s visit soldiers at Tel Hashomer

Maccabi Tel Aviv's Under-19s are busy preparing for their new league season, but not so busy that their thoughts have not gone out to the many IDF soldiers who have been wounded since the start of the current conflict in the south of the country almost a month ago. Squad members therefore resolved to pay a visit to a number of those soldiers who are recovering from their injuries in hospitals throughout the country. The players included Dan Glazer, Sean Goldberg, Dor Peretz, Idan Yogev, Matan Hozez and Yonatan Cohen, who together with Under-19 manager Dani Yogev yesterday (Sunday) visited soldiers and their families at Tel Hashomer hospital in Tel Aviv and did their best to provide a bit of cheer under the difficult circumstances. They also handed out special gift packages courtesy of the club, but most importantly expressed their gratitude to these young men their age whose sacrifice makes it possible for others to pursue their livelihoods in peace.

Remembering the Olympic massacre of 1972

For Maccabi Tel Aviv's Under-14 Team North, the imminent start of their new league season has not prevented them from focusing on matters no less important than their achievements on the pitch. Today they laid a reef at the Tel Aviv War Memorial during a ceremony organised by Israel's Olympic Committee to commemorate the massacre of Israeli sportsmen at the Munich Olympics in 1972. The ceremony was attended among other dignitaries by the Israeli minister of Sports Limor Livnat and speaker of the Israeli parliament Ruvi Rivlin. The youngsters' contribution was greeted with great approval by the members of the committee.

4 MTA Under-19s in the European Championships

Only for the second time, Israel qualified for the UEFA European Under-19 Championships. Four of MTA's young stars made an appearance

The group stage of this year's UEFA European Under-19 Championships in Hungary ended last weekend, with Israel one of only eight national Under-19 teams to make an appearance in this prestigious tournament. Unfortunately they finished last in their group, excluding them from both the semi-finals of the competition and from participation in the FIFA World Youth Championship. But four of Maccabi Tel Aviv's brightest young Under-19 stars – Dor Peretz and Sean Goldberg (class of '95) and Dan Glazer and Guy Aviv (class of '96) – all played an active role in the Israel squad, that participated for only the second time in this important European youth team competition.

Midfielder Dor Peretz, the Israeli team captain, was suspended from the first group match against Portugal due to an accumulation of yellow cards, but fellow midfielder Dan Glazer and defender Sean Goldberg were both in the starting eleven. Defender Guy Aviv came off the bench to make his sixth appearance for the national U19s in a match the Israelis lost 0-3. Peretz, Goldberg and Glazer all played the full 90 minutes in the second match against Austria, Glazer too making his sixth ever appearance for the national squad. This match too ended in a 0-3 losing scoreline, which eliminated the side from the semi-finals of the tournament with still one group-stage match left to play.

Israel entered their third group-stage match against hosts Hungary with a chance of ending third in the group, a finish that would have guaranteed them a place in the FIFA World Youth Championship to be held next year in New Zealand. Dor Peretz, in his eighth appearance for the national side, once again played the full 90 minutes. Sean Goldberg was in the first eleven (his twelfth national appearance) but was substituted on the hour mark. The match finished with the Hungarians on top 2-1, leaving Israel bottom of their group and outside next year's World Championship.

U19s open new season at home against Rishon

Maccabi Tel Aviv's Under-19s will open their 2014/15 league season at home against Hapoel Rishon Lezion. The Tel Aviv derby is in matchweek 4

The national Under-19 Premier League will get underway in just under two months but the fixture schedule is already a matter of record. Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" will open their 2014/15 league season at home on the 13th of September against Hapoel Rishon Lezion. In matchweek 4 the Under-19s will head off mid-week to face municipal rivals Hapoel Tel Aviv in the season's first Tel Aviv derby. Head coach Ziv Arie's charges will face both Under-19 Premier League new boys, Hapoel Petach Tikva and Section Nes Tziona, later in the season. Section Nes Tziona, who were promoted to the top tier for the first time in club history, will visit Maccabi's Kiryat Shalom training ground in matchweek 10. Hapoel Petach Tikva will host "Shachar" in matchweek 13, the first match of the new year. A week earlier Maccabi's Under-19s will play the first "match of the season" at home against Maccabi Haifa. In the past four seasons these two clubs have shared the title honours in the Under-19 Premier League, with "Shachar" finishing a close second last season, just two points shy of champions Maccabi Haifa. The first round of fifteen matches will conclude with an away tie against Beitar Tubruk, who will arrive at Kiryat Shalom for the season's final matchweek on the 16th of May 2015.

Getting Back On Track

This Saturday at 11am, MTA's Under-19s will attempt to return to winning ways as they host Hapoel Rishon Lezion at Kiryat Shalom. Exclusive updates at the official MTA website.

After two losses and a draw in their last three league outings, Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" will have the opportunity to change direction and put a halt to the slide on Saturday when matchweek 7 of the national Under-19 Premier League sets them up at home against Hapoel Rishon Lezion. The match will be held without spectators, a result of crowd disturbances at the beginning of the month at the home derby against Hapoel Tel Aviv which cost the team both a fine and a two-match spectator ban.

Head coach Alon Turjeman's charges started out the season on the right foot with nine goals and as many points from their first three league encounters. In the following three matches the number of goals and points were also the same but disappointingly only one in each category. Despite this dip in form, "Shachar" are still in fifth place, close to the league's pacesetters, with ten points and an identical goal difference.

In contrast to Maccabi's Under-19s, Hapoel Rishon Lezion's season got off to a bad start but they've improved somewhat since then. Two points and four goals were all Rishon could muster from their first four league outings, but they were followed by a 1-3 away win at Bnei Yehuda and a 3-3 draw against FC Ashdod which improved their statistics and put some distance between them and the drop-zone.

Last season the two clubs met on opening day in Rishon Lezion and with a 1-1 draw the home side were only one of four teams to take points against Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" in the first round of last season's league fixtures. In the return fixture at Kiryat Shalom at the start of the second round, "Shachar" triumphed 3-1, with current team captain Dean Akafi scoring one of Maccabi's goals. A repeat of that feat would be a welcome result for the home side, but any winning margin will serve to bring back the (yellow) colour to the players' cheeks.

Live updates throughout the match will appear on the matchpage of the official Maccabi Tel Aviv website that will open at kick-off.

Dramatic Win For Maccabi’s Under-19s

Assaf Madar scored two late goals to help Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" record their third consecutive victory

In a match that delivered on its promise of being a thrilling encounter, Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" beat Beitar Jerusalem 4-2 in matchweek 3 of the national Under-19 Premier League.  Maccabi's Under-19s haven't lost to Beitar Jerusalem since March 2008 and last season head coach Amir Turjeman's squad won both games between the two sides, scoring four goals in each game.  The tradition continued today, with Maccabi scoring four goals and winning 4-2.  Beitar took the lead twice in the first half but Maccabi strikers Dor Jan and Amit Farhi both scored equalisers before half-time.  Assaf Madar, who came on as a substitute toward the end of the match, scored another two to settle the final score for Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar's" third consecutive victory.

Commenting on the game, Amir Turjeman said: "I am happy we won the way we did.  I always tell my players that even if there are glitches during the game and we concede goals, it isn’t the end of the world.  You have to know how to keep your head up, move forward and come out on top".

The game started out rather slowly, until the middle of the first half when Beitar Jerusalem's first goal woke the players of both teams into action. Just past the quarter hour mark it was Beitar's Tomer Yeruham who gave the visitors the advantage with a low and accurate ball past Maccabi keeper Gal Tovali into the corner of the net.  Maccabi Tel Aviv moved forward in an attempt to equalise, and did so after 36 minutes courtesy of Dor Jan, who latched on to a long ball from defender Dean Akafi and scored his third goal of the season.  Two minutes later Yeruham scored his and Beitar Jerusalem's second goal but the final note of the first half was sounded by Amit Farhi.  Maccabi Tel Aviv Shachar's forward rose to meet David Aviv's high ball and headed into the net just seconds before the whistle for half-time.

The second half started with Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" on the attack in an attempt to take the lead for the first time in the game.  Midfielder Daniel Gretz was heavily involved and he twice came close to scoring, but was stopped by Beitar Jerusalem's goalkeeper Stav Shoshan.  Guy Cohen came closest to scoring ten minutes from time when he bounced a shot over Shoshan's head, only to see the ball hit the crossbar.  Just when it seemed the winning goal was escaping him, and with only several minutes left on the clock, Amir Turjeman made a winning substitution. Assaf Madar went on seven minutes from time and with his first touch scored the goal that put Maccabi out in front.  In injury time Madar doubled the advantage as he rose to meet a high ball from Itam Shamai and headed in the goal that sealed Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar"'s third victory in three matches.

Next week Maccabi's Under-19s will play an away game against Hapoel Beer Sheva in an encounter that brings back sweet memories of last May, when Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" celebrated winning the Israeli Under-19 Premier League championship after victory in the Negev.

Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar": Gal Tovali, Itam Shamai, Shachar Piven, Dor Peretz, Din Akafi, Daniel Gertz, David Aviv, Sharon Zisso, Guy Cohen, Amit Farhi and Dor Jan.

Under-19s lose 3-0 At Ramat Hasharon

Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" suffered their second loss this season with a 3-0 away defeat against Hapoel Ramat Hasharon

After three consecutive victories at the beginning of the season, Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar"'s winning ways have been dwindling somewhat over the past few weeks, with a draw and a loss in their last two matches.  Today the Under-19s came to Ramat Hasharon to face Under-19 Premier League newcomers Hapoel Ramat Hasharon in the hope of returning to their winning ways. Unfortunately for the visitors, their fortunes looked nothing like changing as they suffered an unambiguous 3-0 defeat.  The hosts made life difficult for "Shachar" as soon as the ref blew the kick-off whistle and they were already at a 2-0 advantage by half-time.  Head coach Amir Turjeman's players tried to get back into the game in the second half, but Hapoel Ramat Hasharon left them no chance and scored a third goal of their own toward the end of the match.

Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" had possession of the ball during the first minutes of the game and looked to threaten the opposition goal, mostly through midfielder Sharon Zisso and striker Dor Jan.  For their part, the hosts tried to score on the counter and twenty minutes in it was only thanks to Maccabi keeper Shlomi Costa that Ramat Hasharon did not get on the scoreboard.  Five minutes later, however, even he was unable to stop the hosts and Hapoel Ramat Hasharon got their first goal of the match.  Maccabi responded with two scoring opportunities within a minute, but Dean Akafi and Dor Jan both hit the post. Then, close to the break, Maccabi were down to ten men as midfielder Dor Peretz was sent off for a second bookable offence, and the one-man deficit showed immediately. With just one minute remaining in the half, Maccabi once again found themselves fishing the ball out of their own net: Shlomi Costa saved once and got a glove to a second effort but ultimately was unable to prevent the hosts' second goal. Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" left for the break both two goals and one man down.

In the second half,  Guy Cohen, Amit Farhi and Sagiv Yehezkel were sent on as substitutes in an attempt to revive "Shachar"'s fortunes.  Despite pressure from Maccabi Tel Aviv, the hosts managed once again to beat the visitor's defences and score their third goal toward the end of the match.  At the other end, Turjeman's lads failed to find the net in the remaining time and left the pitch having suffered their second consecutive loss, 3-0 to Hapoel Ramat Hasharon.

Next Saturday Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" will attempt to recover in a home game against Hapoel Rishon Lezion, which will be played without spectators due to crowd disturbances at the recent derby against municipal rivals Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" lineup: Shlomi Costa, Rotem Buskila, Mantzur Amash, Dor Peretz, Dean Akafi, Daniel Gertz, Itam Shamai, Sharon Zisso, Assaf Madar, Dor Jan

MTA’s U19s Lose 0-1 To bnei yehuda

After three consecutive wins, Maccabi Tel Aviv's Under-19s lost to Bnei Yehuda on an Aviad Burla goal just four minutes from time

Just as Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" had grown accustomed in their last three games to a 1-0 scoreline in their favour, on Saturday they found themselves on the wrong end of the equation, suffering a 0-1 home loss against Bnei Yehuda.  Maccabi played better throughout most of the game and were close to scoring several times, yet they failed to find the net.  On the other hand, one good header by Bnei Yehuda's captain Aviad Burla four minutes from time was all it took for the guests to leave Kiryat Shalom with all three points. Last season, Maccabi Tel Aviv's Under-19s suffered their first loss of the season in matchweek 18, in the exact same encounter with Bnei Yehuda, the guests leaving Kiryat Shalom training ground with a 0-2 victory.

The Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar" squad hoped to end today's game with their fourth consecutive win and they indeed created more chances than their rivals during the first half.  Halfway through the first half, midfielder Daniel Gretz found himself placed well in front of goal, but his shot was deflected by the visitors' defence.  Maccabi's best opportunity of the first half came several minutes later when a long ball by Gretz found fellow midfielder Guy Cohen in good position, but his header narrowly missed the target.  Before half-time Mansour Amash headed a corner towards goal but saw it deflected by Bnei Yehuda goalkeeper Amit Mesilati.

The second half began much the same as the first had ended.  Immediately after the restart striker Dor Jan was the first to threaten the visitors' goal, getting round the goalkeeper only to see his effort cleared off the line.  Gretz, Guy Cohen and Dor Jan continued to harass Bnei Yehuda's defence while at the other end the Maccabi defence stood firm.  A goalless draw, an unusual result Maccabi's Under-19s have yet to see this season, and one suffered only once last season, seemed inevitable.  But four minutes from time Bnei Yehuda captain Aviad Burla rose to meet a free kick and he headed it accurately into the corner of the net, scoring the only goal of the match.

This was the third loss of the season for Maccabi Tel Aviv "Shachar", who will be looking to grab all three points in their next league match in two week's time, a difficult away tie against Ashdod FC.

Line-up: Gal Tuvaly, Daniel Schwarzboim, Mansour Amash, Daniel Levy, Sean Goldberg, Tamir Abrahmian, Dor Peretz (Sagi Dror 62'), Dor Buzaglo (Sagiv Yehezkel 50'), Daniel Gretz (Almog Ohayon 82'), Guy Cohen (Sharon Zisso 79'), Dor Jan.
