Maccabi beats Kfar Sava 3-0 in friendly

Maccabi continued their preparation for the Play Offs by holding a practice match this morning (Thursday) against Hapoel Kfar Sava at Lewita stadium. Eduardo Gurrero (42), Nick Blackman (63) and Oscar Bluh (89p) scored the goals that awarded Maccabi the victory.

Maccabi Tel Aviv: Daniel Peretz, Andre Geraldes (Itay Ben Hamo 45), Matan Baltaxa (Dor Turgeman 73), Sheran Yeini (Ilay Tomer 65), Ofir Davidzada (Shahar Rosen 73), Eden Kartzev (Enric Saborit 30), Rotem Yatzkar (Novatus Miroshi 45), Dan Biton (Oscar Gluh 45), Matan Hozez (Eylon Almog 45), Eduardo Gurrero (Ori Halevi 65), Etey Shechter (Nick Blakman 45).

With Eytan Tibi, Maor Kandil, Eyal Golasa, and Dor Peretz all on international duty with Israel that host Denmark, Maccabi’s coach Patrick van Leeuwen gave several young players who trained with the first team a chance to show their skills.

Eden Kartzev who recovered from his knee injury that sidelined him for almost the entire second league round, was given 30 minutes of playing minutes at the heart of midfield.

Three minutes before the interval, the deadlock was broken as Matan Hozez sent a square ball towards Etey Shechter who left it for Dan Biton before the diminutive midfielder found Gurrero. The Panamanian striker kept his calm before beating Kfar Sava’s keeper Matan Zalmanovic from close range to break the deadlock.

Van Leeuwen made several changes at the interval and in the 63rd minute doubled their leas as three of the substitutes combined in the build up for the goal. Saborit who came in for Kartzev on the half hour mark, chipped the ball to Eylon Almog whose left foot cross was headed by Nick Blackman beyond the reach of Zalmanovic.

Van Leeuwen introduced several academy for the closing stages and in the 88th minute, Dor Turgeman who replaced Matan Baltaxa on 73, was impeded in the area before referee Orel Grienfeld awarded a penalty. 17-year-old Oscar Gluh, who signed a contract extension during the week, stepped up and successfully converted the spot kick to seal the victory at 3-0.

Under 10’s win Passover tournament

The Passover tournament was staged this morning (Monday) at the North pitch of the Youth Academy at the University compound.

The tournament was held for the 2011 age groups as Maccabi and Macccabi Haifa sent two teams each. The tournament was won by the Maccabi North team that lifted the Cup while the Maccabi South that is based at Kiryat Shalom finished in 3rd place.

At the preliminary round both of Maccabi’s team played against the two Haifa sides wit the the winner of each match advancing to the final while the losing teams competed for 3rd spot.

The Maccabi side that is based at the University compound beat their Haifa counterparts in the first game as well as the second Haifa team in the final to win the four-team Passover tournament.
Maccabi South which is based at the Avi Cohen training complex in Kiryat Shalom, were beaten in the first match but managed to finish 3rd after winning their second encounter against the Haifaites.

The University compound will stage another tournament on Thursday, this time for the 2008 age group where Maccabi North & South will play against Hapoel Ramat Gan and Beitar Tubruk.

Maccabi held to 1-1 draw in derby

The second Tel Aviv derby of the season will conclude the regular on MD26 just before the order of the Play-off matches is determined. The match which is staged at Bloomfield stadium, will be the first time in over a year that Maccabi host matches with fans after the Israeli Government approved the attendance of 5000 spectators.

Maccabi’s coach Patrick van Leeuwen, whose record since taking charge of the first team, is 40 points from a possible 42 – made several changes from the side that beat Hapoel Haifa in the State Cup.

Daniel Tenenbaum, whose man-of-the-match performance at Haifa helped Maccabi advance to the Quarter Finals, kept his place in goal.

Having recovered from a groin strain to be named on the bench but remain an unused substitute against Hapoel Haifa, Enric Saborit, returned to the left side of the defense that otherwise remained unchanged. Eytan Tibi and Luis Hernandez lined-up as the two central defenders while in the absence of the injured Andre Geraldes, Maor Kandil completed the back-four on the right. The midfield trio remained unchanged with Sheran Yeini wearing the captain’s armband in the anchor-man role, with Dor Peretz and Eyal Golasa set up in-front of Yeini in a bid to support the front three.

Dan Biton, stepped in for Eylon Almog as the right winger with Tal Ben Chaim on the opposite wing in support of Etey Shechter who led the attack.

Aleksandar Pesic who completed his recovery from COVID, was named on the substitutes bench waiting for a chance to make an impact alongside Almog, Matan Baltaxa, Matan Hozez, Nick Blackman, Avi Rikan, Ofir Davidzada and Eduardo Guerrero.

First Half

The match began with Maccabi pressure on Hapoel’s defense who seemed desperate to get out of their half. Iad Abu Abid was the first player to go into the referee’s book for an off the ball foul on Tal Ben Chaim. Eitan Shmuelevic waved Hapoel’s claims for a penalty following an Eytan Tibi tackle in the 13th minute, but two minutes later, the 500 red fans celebrated as Hapoel broke the deadlock from a counter attack at the end of which Omri Altman side footed home.

In the 22nd minute Hapoel’s keeper Ernst Setkos struggled to deal with a Dan Biton free kick that led to a goalmouth scramble before Siyanda Xulu blocked Eyal Golasa’s shot and Enric Saborit’s effort on the goal-line.

Right on the half hour mark Altman fired a shot over Tenebaum’s crossbar following a Ben Biton cut-back. A minute later at the opposite end, Dor Peretz created himself the space to blast a right foot shot from the edge of the area that crept to the wrong side of Setkos’ post. In the 33rd minute, Tenenbaum and Altman both received medical treatment as the keeper charged out of his goal to collect a cross and collided in mid-air with Hapoel’s skipper.

The halftime whistle sent both teams into the dressing room for a 15 minute break, with Maccabi aware of the fact that anything but a victory will see them drop to second place.

Second Half

Van Leeuwen made his first change after the break as Matan Hozez replaced Dan Biton at the restart. Four minutes later, the change paid off as Maccabi were back on level terms with Hozez playing a pivotal role in the equaliser. The diminutive winger crossed a free kick into the danger zone before Dor Peretz headed the ball towards goal only to see Setkos spill it past his goal-line.

Van Leeuwen introduced Aleksandar Pesic for the tired Etey Shechter almost instantly in a bid to add more firepower upfront. The dual between Peretz and Setkos continued on 64 as the Maccabi midfielder forced the Lithuanian keeper to dive to his right and save a powerful free kick from 25 meters out. Eylon Almog came in for Ben Chaim in the 66th minute as Van Leeuwen made his third change of the game.

Within seconds, two of the substitutes were involved in a counter attack that almost led to Maccabi’s second as Pesic flicked the ball for Eyal Golasa whose square ball was volleyed over by Hozez. Maccabi continued pressing as Golasa had a shot blocked by Dan Biton on 68 following a Pesic flick in the box.

Yeini made way for Avi Rikan for the final 11 minutes as Van Leeuwen added a fresh pair of legs into the midfield. A minute later, Hozez managed to get on the back of an Almog square ball that rolled across the face of goal – but his shot went over.

Inside injury time Pesic managed to get the ball past Setkos as he latched onto an Almog header before it was cleared off the line. But the Serbian striker was sent off for a foul on the keeper following the intervention of VAR.

The full time whistle that followed, saw the Maccabi players turn to the fans thanking them for their efforts on the night – but no one wearing yellow at Bloomfield were anywhere near the mood to celebrate.

Keeping the momentum: Maccabi ‘Shahar’ beat Netanya 3-1

Maccabi ‘Shahar’ stretched their run to four successive league victories following a 3-1 win over Maccabi Netanya at Nes Ziona. The victory keeps Eliezer Ben Aharon’s side in second place with 25 points, neck and neck with the leaders that have a game in hand.

After several missed chances, Maccabi took the lead a minute before the interval at the end of a team effort and a counter attack that began deep in defence. At the end of the move, Rotem Yatzakar’s through ball found Roizman who sent a delicate chip that bounced in off the underside of the crossbar.
With a 1-0 lead at halftime, Yatzkar and Roizman were at the centre of this five minutes after the restart as Novatus Miroshi won a challenge near the halfway line before Yatzkar sent it to Yalli Lazar whose cross was volleyed home by Roizman to double the lead.
Netanya cut the deficit two minutes later as Eyal Abadi beat Tomer Alon with a spectacular shot from the edge of the area.
But right on the hour mark Roizman completed his hat-trick with Lazar once again providing the cross that was headed in to seal the victory.

Maccabi ‘Shahar’ Tel Aviv: Tomer Alon, Ilay Tomer, Itai Ben Hamo, Mikel Mor, Roy Revivo (Shon Edri 84), Niv Berkovitz (Yonatan Portogez 84), Novatus Miroshi, Rotem Yatzkar (Elad Kaplan 70), Yalli Lazar (Anar Ushmandi 80), Or Roizman (Orel Azarzar 84), Dor Turgema
