Friendly: Maccabi falls 2:0 to Union

Maccabi Tel Aviv played their third friendly of the preseason and their first of the current training camp at Mierlo, Holland against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise from Belgium’s second division.

For Vladmir Ivic, this was a chance to see his deep squad in action ahead of the Yellow & Blue’s first official match of the 2019/20 season against Bnei Yehuda in the Champions Cup in just 11 days.

First Half
Maccabi playing in their checkered kits began the contest in control as they looked for a goal early on. However, in the 12’ it was Union who scored first thanks to a strike by Nils Bouekou who came in off the right side, made his way by a pair of defenders and out the ball into the goal from in close.

Three minutes later, Gianniotis made the save off an 18 meter free kick while Maccabi then had a number of chances to get on the board by Eden Kartsev and Dor Micha but they couldn’t find the equalizer.

Ivic’s side continued too search for a marker but in the 43’ union doubled their lead via Mohamed Camara who scored from inside the box just ahead of the break.

Second Half
Maccabi made a number of substitutes as Tenenbaum came on for Gianniotis as Maor Kandil, Dor Peretz and Sheran Yeini all entered the match in favor of Noam Cohen, Kartzev and Jair Amador.

The Yellow & Blue once again controlled the pace of play and had a chance to draw even early on in the second half but came up short. In the 63’ Ivic brought on Yonatan Cohen, Avi Rikan, Aaron Schoenfeld and Chico Ofoedu for Micha, Itay Shechter, Matan Hozez and Eylon Almog.

Maccabi had a number of attempts as the match came to an end with Union taking the 2:0 win. On Thursday, Ivic’s squad will face the Belgium champions Genk at 19:00.

The Camera’s Lens: Morning Training Session in Mierlo

This morning the Yellow & Blue held a training session at their camp in Mierlo, Holland. Vladimir Ivic’s players will face Royale Union Saint-Gilloise later in the day as the Belgium side finished in third place last season and just missed out on promotion. to add another victory after defeating Global Sport and Beitar Tel Aviv.

After arriving earlier on Monday, this evening owner Mitch Goldhar saw Maccabi Tel Aviv’s preparations up close. The squad held an evening training session in Mierlo.

Vladimir Ivic’s players will continue their preparations for the 2019/20 season this coming week and will have three friendlies with the first on Tuesday at 19:00 Israel time against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise from the Belgium second division

Mitch Goldhar joins Maccabi at Training Camp

After arriving last night in Mierlo, Holland, Maccabi Tel Aviv continued their preparations at their second training camp of the preseason. On Monday afternoon the Club’s owner Mitch Goldhar joined the team at their hotel in order to watch the Champion’s preparations up close and personal ahead of their important goals that await the squad in the near future.

Earlier in the day, the club held a light training session at the camp’s fitness center while in the evening the squad will turn it up a gear with their first full session. Vladimir Ivic’s players will continue to prepare from the upcoming season this week and will play three friendlies. The first one will take place on Tuesday at 19:00 against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise from the Belgium second division. Shalata and Chen extended their contracts at Maccabi

Mofleh Shalata and Eyal Chen who climbed through the ranks of the Youth Department and played last season for the U19’s as well as Israel’s youth teams, signed this morning contract extensions at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Maccabi’s CEO, Ben Mansford, told the club’s official website: “I am delighted that two more of our Academy graduates have committed their future to the Club. Eyal and Mofleh both spent time training with the first team squad last season and I hope that is where their long terms futures will be”.

Maccabi’s Performance Director, Patrick Van Leeuwen, added: “Mofleh and Eyal have been playing together for the past few years in the Maccabi academy. They are both wingers who have the ability to take on opponents as well as score or cross. They are set to continue their development as footballers this season on loan in the second division”.

Shalata, who plays as a winger scored 4 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions last season, and has a total of 11 goals in 59 appearances for Maccabi’s U-19’s. Shalata also represented Israel’s young national teams and made 9 international appearances. 

Chen, also plays as a winger scored 5 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions last season, and has a total of 10 goals in 57 appearances for Maccabi’s U-19’s. Chen also represented Israel’s young national teams and made 5 international appearances.

Moving up a gear: Maccabi heads to Mierlo

Just less than a week after returning to Israel from their first training camp, Maccabi Tel Aviv departed on Sunday for their second camp which will be held in the city of Mierlo, Holland.

The players held a morning training session ahead of the departure to Holland where they will play three friendlies in preparation for their first official match of the season against Bnei Yehuda in the Champions Cup.

On Tuesday July 9th at 19:00 Maccabi Tel Aviv will face Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, a club from the Belgium Second Division who finished last season in third place.

Then on July 11th at 20:00, Maccabi Tel Aviv will play Genk the Belgium title holders who won the league by just two points over Club Brugge. Genk is also preparing for the new campaign as they will be playing in the group stages of the Champions League.

Finally on Sunday July 14the at 19:00, Maccabi Tel Aviv will take on Sparta Rotterdam in the last friendly who were promoted to Holland’s first division after winning the second division playoff.

The following day the Club will travel back to Israel and continue their preparations for their contest against Bnei Yehuda. Following the Champions Cup, the Yellow & Blue will play the first leg of second round Champions League qualifying action away at either Astana in Kazakhstan or Cluj in Romania.

Maccabi defeats Beitar Tel Aviv 3:0 in preseason friendly

Three days before heading out to their second Training Camp in Holland, Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Beitar Tel Aviv/Ramle 3:0 in a friendly held at the PenguinPickUp Training Ground at Kiryat Shalom.

Head Coach Vladimir Ivic’s Starting XI: Daniel Tenenbaum (Andreas Gianniotis 46’), Maor Kandil (Noam Cohen 46’), Sheran Yeini (Jair Amador 46’), Matan Baltaxa (Shahar Piven 46’), Ophir Davdizada, Dor Peretz (Dan Glezer 46’) Ruslan Barsky (Eden Kartzev 46’), Avi Rikan (Dor Micha 46’), Matan Hozez (Yonatan Cohen 46’), Eliran Atar (Eylon Almog 46’), Itay Shechter (Aaron Schoenfeld 46’).

Maccabi opened the match well with a pair of chances by Atar and Shechter but both opportunities didn’t result in a goal. However, in the 16’ Rikan beat the Beitar keeper as Peretz sent a long ball to Kandil who crossed it to the aforementioned Rikan as he found the back of the goal from in close for a 1:0 lead.

Coach Ivic made a number of substitutions to begin the second half but it took until the 76’ for the Yellow & Blue to double their advantage when Yonatan Cohen finished off a team effort begun by Noam Cohen and Eylon Almog for a 2:0 lead. In the 87’ Micha added a third marker as Maccabi defeated Beitar Tel Aviv/Ramle 3:0.

Rule changes presented to the club

As part of the preparations for the upcoming season, the Maccabi Tel Aviv players are also being updated on the rules of the game. On Wednesday, international referee Roie Reinstreiber spent the afternoon hours speaking to the club and professional staff about new rules that have gone into effect as of June 1.

Among the changes that were presented to the Maccabi squad and staff was a revision of the constitution aimed at creating greater uniformity with respect to whistles on hand balls, an update stating that in the event of a substitute, the player being substituted off of the pitch needs to exit at the nearest point and not in the middle as well as an attacking player needs to be at least one meter away from a “wall” set up by the opponent.

Haviv Ohayon signs new 3-year-deal

Haviv Ohayon, secured his future to Maccabi having signed a new three-year-deal at the club with an option to extend by a further season.

Ohayon, spent a six-month loan spell at Hapoel Hadera last season where he made 7 League and 2 State Cup appearances. 

The 20-year-old keeper who is a regular with the Israel U-21’s for which he made 3 appearances, in addition to 36 more international appearances for the young national sides, told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to continue at the club I really love, I feel at home and was raised on its values. Signing a contract extension here feels as the most natural thing for me and I am grateful for the trust shown in me”.

Maccabi CEO, Ben Mansford, added: “Haviv has had a very challenging last couple of seasons. Haviv went to Watford with a reputation of been one of the best U18 Goalkeepers in Europe. Unfortunately Haviv suffered a serious back injury and only last season returned to full fitness. The loan to Hadera showed glimpses of Haviv returning to himself. Everyone at Maccabi knows that Haviv has the natural talent to be a future Number 1 at the Club and this new deal contunies to show our belief in Haviv.”.
