Maccabi Foundation & Pizza Prego for Lone Soldiers

The Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Foundation together with Pizza Prego and The Lone Soldier Center – In Memory of Michael Levin have joined together for the Lone Soldiers in Israel.

The MaccabI Foundation is aware of the challenges and difficulties faced by Lone Soldiers serving in the IDF and has set a number of goals for this season including supporting the Lone Soldiers during their service with the help of the Yellow & Blue fans and sponsors.

Pizza Prego has stepped up to the pitch in order to help the Lone Soldiers and will donate 5 NIS from every Pizza ordered during the month of November.

Head of the Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Foundation, Josh Halickman said: “The Maccabi Foundation is proud to join together with Prego Pizza to help Lone Soldiers. We value our partnership with such a great establishment and are thrilled to work hand in hand to support those who do so much for all of us.”

Alon Sahar, owner of Pizza Prego explained: “When I met the Lone Soldiers during the Maccabi matches it took me back to a very sensitive time in my life. Together with the Maccabi Foundation, we have decided to move into high gear for the Lone Soldiers as this is a matter that is very close to my heart and as a company we have to give as much as possible to this population. Furthermore, we will soon launch a project that will help give Lone Soldiers an opportunity to work at the branches of Pizza Prego and the best employees will also receive an educational grant.”

“Hi I’m Amiad and live in Moshav Hemed in the center of the country. I began gardening when I was 14 years old when a neighbor asked for my help in their garden and at an early age I already had a gardening business. I love football and what I do is not really work, it’s something for my soul.”

Why is there pitch winterization in Israel?
“The winterization of the pitches is done in Israel due to the weather. The summer is very hot and dry. Although it’s not that cold in the winter, the pitch gets a little chilly, so with the amount of matches that are played on the grass, it just can’t withstand the use. The summer grass has a bit more space and the winter grass is darker and thicker as the grass seeds produce more blades.”

As quick as possible:
“We try to get the winterization of the pitches done as fast as possible for the surface to be playable as other fields around the country have the luxury of a bit more time than us as our breaks are shorter. We are always up against the clock to get it done.”

How does Jordi like the grass?
“Some coaches like the grass higher and some like it lower. We usually have our grass on the lower end so the ball can move quicker and the pace is faster.”

Feedback from the players:
“Many players give me feedback all throughout the season as they always have a good word to say and it’s great to be here with everyone.”

Connected to music:
“I am usually playing calm Israeli music in my headphones when I am working but I have been a DJ for more than 20 years and I’m very connected to music. A lot of people are familiar with me in the music industry, especially in the area of electronic music.”

Just like the best players in the world: The Brand New Youth Department Project

The Club’s Youth Department has begun a brand new innovative project. Over the next few months, the Youth Department will produce various video clips that will be shown to the players as to how to perform technical movements along with special ways as to handle the ball. Robin Verheul, assistant to Performance Director Patrick van Leeuwen is managing the project at both the Youth Training Facility and at the University. The Youth Department has trained two coaches, one at the North facility and one at the South facility who will responsible for teaching the technical training procedures and special movements of the most successful players in the world to the youngsters.

This season, the Youth Department has begun technical training through the methodology of Wiel Coerver (a Dutch coach who developed training methods that deal with technique). The Department has trained two Youth Academy coaches, Idan Kazinitz (North facility) and Hamda Meri (South facility) that will carry out the technical training for the Under-10 to Under-15 age groups.

The Youth Department will produce 35 video clips on movements in various different directions. Two players will be filmed performing the movements correctly, while each movement is named after a famous player who performs the specific move. Younger players will be challenged to do these movements and the videos will encourage them to work harder in order to handle them during a match as well.

Robin Verheul who is managing the project said, “We want the movements to be performed at the highest levels, but they also must be done quickly. We are teaching the younger players how to do these movements with both feet and each movement is also of a different nature and different direction in order for the players to learn them at each position on the pitch. Just learning the movements is not enough and it’s very important to repeat the exercise over and over again in order to improve the speed of the movement. At the moment, these movements are being done freely and without defensive players. The next step will be to add defenders. At the end of the day, these technical movements will help the player’s confidence in handling the ball and ultimately make them more complete players.”

Season Tickets Facts & Stats

Maccabi Tel Aviv may be in the middle of the national team and pitch winterization break but until the action on the pitch returns we’ve decided to look at you, the fans. Actually to be even more precise, the Club’s 2017/18 Season Ticket Holders.

It’s fairly clear that the city with the most season ticket holders is Tel Aviv with 1,328 living within the city’s boundaries.

Rishon Le’Zion is in second place with 710 season ticket holders for the current campaign while Holon finds itself in 3rd place with 510.

After Holon you’ll find a number of cities in the Gush Dan area including Ramat Gan, Herzliya, Giv`atayim, Ramat Hasharon and Bat Yam. Outside of the Gush Dan area you can also locate season ticket holders in Raanana, Modiin and Rehovot.

If you asked yourself how many Netanya residents hold season tickets you would find that there are 125 up from last year’s 116.

A big round of applause goes to the 14 season ticket holders from Eilat which find themselves the furthest away from the stadium than any other supporter by a whopping 390 km!

How about the other side of the country? Those in the north include 5 from Safed that make their way to Netanya for every home contest, while there are 4 in Katzrin. Believe it or not, in the northern city of Nahariya there are no less than 34 season ticket holders.

Another incredible fact is that there are 128 fans who are the only ones who live in their specific community. We don’t know if they come to the Stadium themselves or with others but that’s a pretty cool stat. Some smaller communities include Nir Oz by the Gaza border, Nitzani Sinai by the Egyptian border as well as Goren in the western Galilee.

All in all, Maccabi Tel Aviv has fans in 380 different locations around Israel.

“They Crushed anyone and everyone in their way”: The Eligula Brothers Achievements

Maccabi Tel Aviv became the first club in Israel to sign FIFA players to represent the team in eSports competition. Brothers Dor and Or Eligula were chosen to play in various tournaments across the country and around the world. Let’s take a closer in depth look at the pair and their achievements in this specialized realm.

The Eligula twins have been well known throughout the Israeli gaming community and have won numerous FIFA competitions. According to the Game Bar rankings, a company that organizes tournaments around the country and is considered one of the leaders in the the field, the top FIFA players were ranked based on their results in roughly 50 competitions during 2017.

Dor and Or find themselves in first and second place amongst the top 10 players in Israel and Game Bar recognized their accomplishments: “2nd Place Dor Eligula – One half of the pair of celebrities in the FIFA world, they were probably the only ones who were upset when FIFA 18 was released…after a poor season in 2016, this past campaign they crushed everyone and anyone in their way – without a doubt, a dream season – respect!

1st Place Or Eligula – “The easiest choice of the year. He overtook his brother because of the two single tournaments he played in and pay attention to the following number – 13(!!) doubles wins. How can you name any another champion.”

The pair also won the 2017 Israel Gaming Championships finishing in 1st place in the doubles tournament giving them the prestigious title. The Eligula twins also starred in 2015 and 2016 playing in similar competitions but hadn’t yet been crowned the country’s champions.

The brothers gained Maccabi’s attention after participating in the Fans Tournament that was held at the Club’s Official Store on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv where they won the doubles competition and then held an exhibition game against Dor Micha and Eyal Golasa.

Should the purchase not be done by using the season ticket number points will not be allocated.

Should a ticket be purchased and the fan doesn’t attend the match, there will be no refunds and no points will be allocated.
