Numbers behind the past Jewish Year

Maccabi played 59 official matches during 5777. The record: 37 wins, 10 draws, 12 losses. The goal differential was 88-45 in favor of Maccabi.

The biggest win was 4:1 against Hapoel Raanana on 11.1.2017, 13 Tevet.

Interestingly enough Maccabi ended 5776 with a 5:0 Derby win over Hapoel Tel Aviv.

The 3:2 win over Maccabi Netanya gives Maccabi a 10 match undefeated streak, 8 wins and 2 draws to end the Jewish year.

The Yellow & Blue had 43 players appear in official matches over all completions. Predrag Rajikovic made the most appearances with 55 while Vidar Kjartansson had 51 and Dor Micha 50.

Vidar Kjartansson was the scoring leader with 30 goal across all competitions. 21 different players scored during 5777.

The Icelander was also the Israel Premier League scoring leader with 19 goals. Itay Shechter was second with 16 markers.

The youngest player to appear this year was Eden Kartsev – 17.5 years old
The oldest player to appear this year was Yossi Benayoun – 37 years old

The most frequent opponent was Maccabi Petah Tikva – 7 matches
490K fans attended Maccabi matches across all competitions during 5777 for an average of 8,300 per game.

Youth Department Toast for the Jewish New Year

Just ahead of the Rosh Hashana Jewish New Year Holiday the Youth Department held a toast at the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility. Coaches along with management, professional staff and guests came together to celebrate as CEO Ben Mansford wished everyone a happy and successful New Year to all.

During the course of the event, Manager of the Youth Department Guy Zukerman and Performance Director Patrick van Leeuwen recognized everyone’s efforts over the past year as they looked forward to continuing their good work into the new year. The Youth Department were honored by the presence of the Brickman and Tzemach families who were present at the Rosh Hashana toast.

Ticket Sales Ashkelon Away Match

Maccabi Tel Aviv will continue Israel Premier League Ligat Ha’Al action on Sunday October 1 against Hapoel Ashkelon at the Sela Stadium at 20:45 on Matchday 6. Tickets are now on sale for season ticket holders, so come down south to cheer on the Yellow & Blue.

Maccabi Tel Aviv 2017/18 Season Ticket holders have priority to purchase tickets for this match until September 20 at 12:00 and may buy one ticket per season ticket. Should tickets remain they will then go on sale to the general public with each person being able to buy up to 3 tickets.

Please Note: This match is part of the Points Allocation System and season ticket holders will receive 3 points for this contest while non-season ticket holders will receive 1.5 points. Make sure that when tickets are purchased via the Leaan Website, telephone or Leaan Ticket Office the season ticket number is used in order to receive full points. Should the purchase not be done by using the season ticket number points will not be allocated.

Should a ticket be purchased and the fan doesn’t attend the match, there will be no refunds and no points will be allocated.

Atzily: “I feel part of the club; I’m happy to be here”

Omer Atzily looked back at his side’s stunning 3:2 victory over Maccabi Netanya at the Netanya Stadium on Matchday 4 of the Israel Premier League:

Luck or character:
“I don’t think it was luck. The first half was not great but the second half was much better and it was a character win. Next week we have a very difficult match and I hope that we will look even better.”

First half issues:
“We know that we haven’t looked great in the first half and that is something we are working on and have made a point to improve. Next week I’m sure we will look better in the first half. I have no explanation as to why and it’s not something that we sit around the dressing room saying, ‘let’s go play well’ and then we don’t. I don’t know why, but we will improve.”

Style of play:
“Maccabi Netanya came to play football and they have a great team. I have to give credit to the coaching staff Slobodan Drapic and Shay Barda. But what’s most important here is the win. It was a tough match and we walked away with three points.”

About the goal:
“I don’t have any explanation, other than the ball came to me and I saw the goal and I kicked it. My big brother Gal just got married so that was in his honor.”

Pressure playing for Maccabi:
“I don’t think that the pressure of Maccabi was on my shoulders. I didn’t play much last season but I feel part of the club and I am part of the puzzle which has many quality players. I’m happy to be here.”

Dor Micha’s injury at the end of the warmup:
“I didn’t pay much attention. After a few minutes I saw him head to the dressing room. Dor is a good friend and a great player. I hope he will be back soon.”

More on Netanya’s play:
“We saw their play over the past matches and how they were against Beer Sheva. I also was under Drapic and Barda so I knew their style and I knew it would not be an easy match.”

Cruyff: “The club showed character in the second half”

The Head Coach was pleased with his side’s play in the second half especially during the first 20 minutes: “We are working on our first half play,” while also looking ahead to Haifa: “The game will certainly be very interesting.”

Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Maccabi Netanya 3:2 in an unforgettable match that saw the Yellow & Blue comeback from two deficits to take home the win. Head Coach Jordi Cruyff spoke about the club’s third league win in a row: “Its always difficult after a European match. Maccabi Netanya played very well today and I think we really needed three superb goals in order to win the game. The players showed character in the second half especially during the first 20 minutes.”

About the quality of play between the two halves:
“We have seen the stats that show that we score the majority of our goals in the second half and that means that we we are not playing how we expect to play on the first half and that’s something we are working on.”

On the rotation:
“We have been doing this for six seasons and that’s not something that will change.”

Nick Blackman’s first goal with Maccabi:
“I think that this was a great goal just like Omer Atzily’s. We know the skills of these two players. Both of them didn’t start in the match on Thursday against Slavia Prague and they were fresh for today’s game.”

Working together with Steve McClaren during the match:
“He has great experience and it’s something terrific for us. I know him for more than 20 years. If he has the tools and knowledge I’m happy to be able to use them.”

The Maccabi Haifa match next Sunday:
“I don’t think that the game against Haifa will be our biggest test up until now, but it’s certainly an important match. There will be plenty of more important games. I will have to see how best to use our squad. Two goals today were scored by players who didn’t start this past Thursday and I’m expecting a tough game. I’ve seen their previous matches and they are more comfortable playing against opponents that play open football and we play like that, so the game will certainly be very interesting.”
