Yellow & Blue Youth Department Results September 2, 2017

Hapoel Raanana 1:4 Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv
After an opening Matchday victory, the Under-17 club continued their positive play up in the Sharon region as Nadav Nidam, Raava Assayag with a brace and Tal Yogadaev all scored for the young Yellow & Blue. Head Coach Eliezer Ben Aharon summed up the win: “Over the course of the first half we dominated play on the pitch and we scored 3 quality goals. Near the end of the half we weren’t focused and we gave up a goal. In the second half the quality of play dropped but we were still able to score another goal. During the week we practiced as if we were playing the way Raanana would and we were ready.”

SC Ironi Ashdod Morris 4:2 Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv
The Club’s U16 squad began their 2017/18 campaign falling to the southern side. Ashdod scored a pair of first half goals and Maccabi drew even the end of 45 minutes thanks to goals by Shaked Navon and Tal Torgeman. However, the hosts would score 2 goals in the second half sending the Under-16’s to defeat. Assistant coach Leon Asraf spoke about the club’s performance: “We will lift ourselves up, learn from our mistakes and keep on working hard.”

Jonathan Cohen signed a contract extension

Jonathan Cohen signed a contract extension which will keep him at Maccabi Tel Aviv till the end of the 2019/20 season and was loaned to Bnei Yehuda till the end of the season.

Maccabi’s coach Jordi Cruyff told the club’s official website: “We are happy to extend Jonathan’s contract byba further year and to keep him at Maccabi Tel Aviv till the end of the 2019/20 season. We are satisfied with the progress he made over the past few years and after a year’s loan at Bnei Yehuda where he played some significant minutes and having analysed the situation together, we feel that another season on loan could only benefit his progress”.

Cohen who scored his debut goal for Maccabi in this season’s Europa League 1st qualifying round return leg against Tirana, added: “I am delighted to extend my contract at the club I grew up at and is a home to me. I am going for another season on loan and believe it could contribute a lot to my future”.

Let’s meet Maccabi’s new central defender Jean-Sylvain Babin who gave his first interview to Official Website:

“I’ve known about Maccabi since I was a youngster when I watched a lot of Football of TV. Maccabi is the biggest and most important club in Israel. It’s also a club with a lot of history and I want to do my best for my new team.”

On coming to Maccabi and the goals ahead:
“I’m really have that Jordi Cruyff brought me here and we’ve been in contact for a couple of years. I’ll do the utmost for the club and my teammates. My goal is to play as many matches as possible, to play well and help collect as many points as possible in the Europa League in order to advance to the next round.”

About his play:
“I’m a central defender who wins many battles. I have good ball control and I play well with my head. Last season season I scored 3-4 goals exactly that way so I’m also an offensive player.”

Playing Villarreal from Spain:
“I know that we are facing Villarreal in the Europa League and that will be a very important contest. I’m lucky to have already played against them. They are a first division La Liga club and it’s very good club which plays excellent football. We will are going into a head to head battle and I’ll do everything for new my team.”

After collecting an away win at Kiryat Shemona, Maccabi will look to keep up the positive momentum in league play as they aim to record their first home win of the young season on Matchday 3 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Ha’Al.

14.9: Slavia Prague – Maccabi Tel Aviv, 20:00 Eden Arena Prague
The Yellow & Blue will begin their Europa League Group Stage journey with a key away encounter in the Czech Republic against Slavia Prague on Matchday 1.

18.9: Maccabi Netanya – Maccabi Tel Aviv, 21:00 Netanya Stadium
Just 4 days after a visit to the Czech capital, Maccabi will return to league play on Matchday 4 of the Ligat Ha’Al. The two sides faced each other in the Toto Cup in a match that ended in a goalless draw.

On paper this is always one of the biggest matches of the season and what is also known as the Israeli Classico. This time around the Yellow & Blue will host the Greens on Matchday 5.

The high profile matches for Maccabi continues with certainly one of the highlights of the season when the Yellow & Blue welcome the Spanish side on Matchday 2 of the Europa League Group Stages.

JEAN-SYLVAIN BABIN JOINS MACCABI ON LOAN FROM GIJON

Jean-Sylvain Babin, 30, has joined Maccabi Tel Aviv FC on a one-year-loan-deal with an option for another season after an agreement has been struck with his Spanish club Sporting de Gijon.

The French born central defender, 181cm, who represents the national team of Martinique, successfully underwent a medical at the club this afternoon completed his registration and will receive the number 5 yellow shirt. 

Maccabi’s coach Jordi Cruyff told the club’s official website: “Babin is a solid central defender with a lot of presence and experience who will surely contribute to our team. The fact he spent the last nine seasons playing in Spain gained him a lot of experience which we are sure will help us a lot on both ends of the pitch”.

Babin, made 24 League and Cup appearances scoring one goal for Gijon last season and has been playing in Spain for the last nine seasons with Granada (2014-2016), Alcorcon (2010-2014) and Lucena (2008-2010). He began his playing career at the youth academy of Chateauroux and made his senior debut for the French outfit in 2004.

Marcelo joined Bnei Yehuda on loan

Marcelo Dos Santos joined Bnei Yehuda on loan for one season. The 23 year old midfielder who joined Maccabi last January from Brazilain outfit Vitoria will join Bnei Yehuda on loan till the end of the season.

Eliran Atar gave his first interview back in Yellow & Blue to the Official Maccabi Tel Aviv Website and discussed the Europa League, the fans and of course how excited he is to return to Kiryat Shalom:

“I’m very very excited and very very happy to come back and wear the Yellow & Blue jersey. I’m very happy to come back home.”

“Maccabi is my home and the Maccabi fans are the greatest thing that has ever happened to me in my career. I’m so excited and I can’t wait to see them again.”

“The Europa League is something that every player dreams of and I can’t wait to play in front of a sold out stadium with all of the Maccabi fans that I love so much. I’ll do the maximum to make everyone smile.”

Warming Up: Getting Ready for the U19 Season

The summer break will end next Saturday for the Club’s Under-19 squad as they will begin the 2017/18 season with a date with the newly promoted Beitar “Oren” Jerusalem. For the second straight campaign Guy Tzarfati will be at the helm of Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv.

On Matchday 6 the Yellow & Blue will play a Derby against Hapoel Tel Aviv while the following week Maccabi “Shachar” will visit Maccabi Haifa for a tough away clash. A trip up to Kiryat Shemona will end the first round of matches.

The main goal of the U19’s and the Club as a whole will be to continue to help promote players to the senior squad. An example of that took place on Matchday 5 of the Toto Cup when Fadi Najar and Eden Kartsev, both Maccabi “Shachar” players made their first team debuts.

Maccabi Tel Aviv will take part in European competition once again as they begin the Europa League Group Stages on September 14th. The Yellow & Blue are in Group A together with Villarreal from Spain, Astana from Kazakhstan and Czech side Slavia Prague as they open their 3rd straight continental campaign.

Of course you want to be a part of all of the exciting action and on Thursday August 31st at 19:00 Europa League Mini-Season Ticket Packages go on sale at the Leaan Website and via telephone. Packages will go on sale for both Season Ticket Holders and the General Public (for locations that are not season tickets) at that time.

Season Ticket Holders will have until September 7th at 19:00 to purchase their seats. After that time those locations will go on sale to the general public.
