It’s all Vidar! The Icelander scores a Hattrick in Maccabi’s 3:0 win over Petah Tikva

Vidar Kjartansson scored a Hattrick as the Yellow & Blue won their Toto Cup Matchday 4 encounter against Maccabi Petah Tikva at the Moshava Stadium. Tino-Sven Susic also made his Maccabi debut as the new number 31 was introduced for the final 30 minutes of the contest. Matchday 5 of the Toto Cup will take place Saturday night at 19:00 when the Yellow & Blue will visit Hapoel Raanana at the Netanya Stadium.

Head Coach Jordi Cruyff’s Starting XI included Serbian keeper Predrag Rajikovic, with a defensive quartet of Yuval Shpungin, Captain Sheran Yeini, Egor Filipenka and Ofir Davidzada. Eyal Golasa, Avi Rikan and Christian Battocchio were in the midfield while Omer Atzily, Dor Micha and Vidar Kjartansson provided the offense.

Available on the bench were keeper Daniel Tenenbaum, Sagiv Yehezkel, Aaron Schoenfeld, Tal Ben Haim, Timor Susic, Dor Peretz and Sean Goldberg.

First Half
Maccabi got off to a dominating start as the Yellow & Blue controlled the pace of the match early on. Rikan’s 8’ attempt went wide, but one minute later Vidar’s chance found the back of the goal for a 1:0 lead. Shpungin lifted a smart ball into the box and after a defensive lapse by Petah Tikva the Icelander pounced and slammed it home for the Yellow & Blue advantage.

Rikan tried his luck from 20 meters out but his screamer was saved by Tzahi Gigi in the 12’ while at the other end Yuval Shabtai’s close range chance flew over Rajikovic’s goal. With Maccabi looking for goal #2 on the night they would find it via the Icelandic striker once again as he put in a rebound off of the post from an Atzily free kick in the 17’.

Abidor had a sharp chance in the 28’ but just missed the Maccabi goal as the match began to quiet down over the balance of the half with the Yellow & Blue taking a 2:0 lead into the break.

Second Half
It didn’t take long for Vidar to do what he does best and that’s to score yet another goal in the 56’. Atzily sent the ball into Micha who handed it off to the Icelandic striker for his third of the night and a Toto Cup Hattrick.

In the 60’ Cruyff made a pair of substitutions by introducing Aaron Schoenfeld for Kjartansson while Micha came off for Tino-Sven Susic who made his Yellow & Blue debut. 13 minutes later Sean Goldberg and Sagiv Yehezkel entered the fray in favor of Yeini and Atzily.

Susic broke down the right flank in the 77’ however his dangerous cross was taken care of by the Petah Tikva defense and Battocchio’s 88’ shot was deflected out for a corner as Maccabi wrapped up a 3:0 win. The Yellow & Blue will visit Hapoel Raanana on Matchday 5 of the Toto Cup this coming Saturday night at the Netanya Stadium at 19:00.

Maccabi “Shachar” defeats Arsenal Kyiv 4:0

Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv opened up their Kiev Training Camp on the right foot on day three as they defeated local outfit Arsenal Kyiv 4:0. Eulogy Almog scored the Under-19’s first goal in the first half while Prince Thomas, Adir Hardon and Sahar Brami all added markers in the second half.

The Under-17 and Under-16 squads joined the camp yesterday as they will also be playing Arsenal Kyiv, Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Guy Tzarfati, the team’s Head Coach spoke about the match: “It was a great way to begin the training camp and we played a good match. We are continuing to get to know one another and we’re working hard.”

20 Years Since Rodrigo Goldberg’s Maccabi Debut

History in Short

Goldberg’s Maccabi Tel Aviv Telenovela began in 1997/98 when the striker arrived in Israel from Universidad de Chile, one of the top clubs in Chile. In 13 appearances for his country’s national team, Goldberg record 4 goals and came to Kiryat Shalom full of confidence to help the Yellow & Blue. However after only half a season the striker was loaned back to his native Chile, until one day during the 2000/01 season when he received a phone call telling him to return to Israel.

Nir Levin began following Goldberg as he played for Maccabi’s reserve team. He finally made his way all the way back to the first team just in time for the Derby against Hapoel and scored the match’s first goal.

From there, Goldberg played three more seasons with Maccabi making 129 appearances while scoring 45 goals.

Top moment

If there was one thing that Goldberg loved, there’s no question that it was the Derby. The Chilean scored many Derby goals but the most famous and important marker was in the 2002/03 Derby. On Matchday 22, the Yellow & Blue had to face Hapoel just a week after falling to Bnei Yehuda. With the threat of losing two games in a row and the Championship race looming over their heads, plus a 3:1 loss in the first Derby of the season, everyone’s nerves were a bit rattled around Kiryat Shalom.

Over 37,000 fans filled the Ramat Gan Stadium and after 22 minutes Rodrigo Goldberg sent the Maccabi faithful into pandemonium. Andreas Prohonenkovs broke down the right wing and crossed the ball over Bruno Reis right to Goldberg’s feet. The Chilean stopped the ball cold and sent it past Shavit Elimelech and into the back of the goal. The score stood up until the final whistle as Maccabi went on to win the league title.

Maccabi Tel Aviv held their final training session prior to Wednesday’s Toto Cup match at Maccabi Petah Tikva at 21:00. After signing with the Club last night, Tino-Sven Sušić took part in his practice and had a chance to meet his new teammates at Kiryat Shalom.

SUSIC JOINS MACCABI ON LOAN

Maccabi Tel Aviv agreed with Belgian outfit Genk on a one-year-loan-deal with an option for 25-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international midfielder Tino-Sven Susic who successfully underwent a medical at the club and will wear the number 31 jersey.

Maccabi’s coach Jordi Cruyff told the clubs’ official website: “Susic is a skillful midfielder with great potential and many attacking attributes who can play on several positions. He highly impressed us during the two legged tie against Hajduk Split last season and we kept monitoring his progress to try and see when we could land him. We are happy to have secured Susic on a loan deal and hope he will prove to be an asset as well as help the team reach its’ goals”.

Susic, 186cm, was born in Sarajevo but moved to Belgium at young age where he began his playing career with Vise before switching to Genk and Standard Liege. He represented Belgium’s U-18 and U-19 but opted to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina’s senior side for which he collected 9 full caps including two in the 2014 World Cup. In 2012 Susic was sold to Hajduk Split for which he made 134 appearances scoring 27 goals and assisting in 23 others for the Croatian giants including a penalty against Maccabi Tel Aviv in last season’s Europa League Playoff return leg at the Poljud stadium. At the end of August 2016 Susic was bought by Genk for which he made 15 appearances.

Youth Department Clubs head to Kiev Training Camp

Over the the next few days, three Yellow & Blue Youth Department Clubs will arrive in Kiev, Ukraine for an 8-day training camp. The Under-19, Under-17 and Under-16 clubs are working hard as they prepare for their respective 2017/18 campaigns. During the training camp the team will play friendlies against Shakhtar Donetsk, Dynamo Kyiv and Arsenal Kyiv.

Maccabi Tel Aviv has a busy week ahead with two more Toto Cup contests. The first takes place on Wednesday August 9th, 21:00 against Maccabi Petah Tikva at the Moshava Stadium while the second will occur on Saturday August 12th, 19:00 versus Hapoel Raanana at the Netanya Stadium. Tickets are on sale now, so come out and cheer on the Yellow & Blue.

Please note: The two matches are part of the Points Allocation System and season ticket holders will receive double the amount of points than non-season ticket holders. Make sure that when tickets are purchased via the Leaan Website, telephone or Leaan Ticket Office the season ticket number is used in order to receive full points. Should the purchase not be done by using the season ticket number points will not be allocated.

Should a ticket be purchased and the fan doesn’t attend the match, there will be no refunds and no points will be allocated.
