DAVIDZADA JOINS MACCABI ON LOAN

Maccabi Tel Aviv FC reached an agreement with Belgian outfit Gent for the loan deal of Ophir Davidzada for one season.

The 26-year-old left-back who joined Gent from Hapoel Be’ersheva last season and has since played in Belgium, is set to join the rest of the team later this week at the pre-season training camp in Austria.

Davidzada told Maccabi’s official website: “I am delighted to join Maccabi Tel Aviv. I am looking forward to meet my new teammates at the training camp and meet the clubs’ targets for the coming season”.

BARAK ITZHAKI SIGNS 1-YEAR EXTENSION

Maccabi Tel Aviv FC and Barak Itzhaki signed a contract extension which will see the 32-year-old forward begin his 8th season at the club.

Barak Itzhaki, who joined Maccabi in 2010 and scored 7 league goals last season told the clubs’ official website: “I am delighted to continue at a club which has always been a home to me and showed me how much they want me. This is the right place for me and where I can give everything to the club and repay the faith on the pitch. Both myself and the rest of my teammates will give everything to put Maccabi back on track of achievement and success”.

Europa League: Maccabi to face KF Tirana in the First Round

The First Round of the Europa League Qualifying draw took place today in Nyon, Switzerland and will see Maccabi Tel Aviv play KF Tirana of Albania in a two legged tie.

The first leg will take place at home on June 29th while the return contest will be one week later on July 6th. Maccabi will begin their European campaign in the first round of qualifying and will be ranked (23.375 points, first amongst the ranked teams) all the way through qualification and most probably the playoff round.

Maccabi’s coach Jordi Cruyff told the club’s official website in response to The draw: “The team from Tirana is a team that played 5 matches this season which is always a challenge when you just begin the campaign. In the past years we experienced that the football of every European nation shouldn’t be underestimated and must be respected – Albanian football is no different”.

Who will Maccabi play in the Second Round should they advance?
Should Maccabi advance to the second round of Europa League qualifying, they will face the winner of SJK Seinajoki of Finland and KR Reykjavik from Iceland with the matches taking place on July 13th while the return leg will be played on July 20th.

Albania Cup Holders: KF Tirana

One of the oldest and finest Clubs in Albania, KF Tirana won the Cup this past season while finishing their domestic league in second to last place. Tirana has won 24 league championships and have been a regular in European competition while hosting their home matches at the Selman Stërmasi Stadium which holds 9,500 seats.

Who will be the potential second round opponent?
Immediately following the first round draw the identity of the potential second round opponents will be known and Maccabi will be ranked in this round as well. The first leg will take place on July 13th while the return leg will be played on July 20th.

Some of the clubs that the Yellow & Blue may play in the second round are, Glasgow Rangers from Scotland along with Kairat Almaty, Zeljeznicar from Bosnia, Valletta of Malta (Maccabi’s first opponent in European competition) and Vaduz from Lithuania.

The draw for the third round of qualifying will take place on July 14th following the first leg of the second round.

Ben Haim: “It was very important for me to continue at Maccabi Tel Aviv”

Tal Ben Haim, Maccabi Tel Aviv’s veteran central defender extended his contract with the Club for an additional season and Number 26 can’t wait to give back to the fans on the pitch and spoke about the importance of continuing with the Yellow & Blue:

“It was very important for me to continue at Maccabi Tel Aviv, a Club that I have been a part of since I was 6 years old.”

“I have a great relationship with the fans and they really wanted me to continue and that’s one of the reasons why I wanted to continue at Maccabi, the Club I grew up in. I want to acknowledge the fans and pay them back on the pitch.”

Vidar’s Back: Highlights from the first day of training in Austria

The 2017/18 Training Camp is in full swing as the Maccabi Tel Aviv players and professional staff arrived in the Austrian city of Laa where the Yellow & Blue will be holding their annual camp. The Club was met in Austria by Icelandic striker Vidar Kjartansson, Oscar Scarione and manager Benny Tabak.

After a few hours of rest an evening training session was held while over the next few days Maccabi will continue to prepare for their first Europa League qualifying round contest on June 29th.

BEN HAIM AGREES TO 1-YEAR EXTENSION

Maccabi Tel Aviv FC and Tal Ben Haim reached an agreement to extend the contract of the central defender by one more season. Ben Haim will sign his contract extension and is set to join the rest of the team which travels to Austria for a pre-season later in the week.

The 35-year defender,  who grew up at Maccabi’s Youth department and returned to the club in 2015 after a successful 11-year-spell in Europe, told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to continue for another season at the club I grew up at. I am grateful for the faith and trust shown in me as I have one aim before me – to return the trophies back to Maccabi Tel Aviv”.

Maccabi have landed in Austria for Training Camp

Maccabi Tel Aviv departed this morning for their training camp in Laa, Austria. The players and professional staff arrived early at Ben Gurion Airport and will be away until June 26th. Tomorrow, Monday June 19th, the Yellow & Blue will find out their opponent in the first round of Europa League Qualifying with the first leg of the two legged tie being played on Thursday June 29th.

Over the duration of the training camp, the Club will play two friendlies against teams coming from the Slovakian Fortuna League. The first contest will take place on June 20th at 15:00 Israel time against AS Trenčín who ended last season in 4th place. FC Spartak Trnava who finished their domestic campaign in 6th place will be Maccabi’s second opponent on June 24th at 18:00 Israel time.

 

Youth Department Roundup 2016/17 Season

The Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Department underwent a makeover this past season as a new staff led by Performance Director Patrick van Leeuwen brought a brand new type of professionalism to the Club. Along with an expanded staff which included Raymond Atteveld (Professional Director Under-11 through Under-16) and Guy Zuckerman (Youth Department Manager) together with the many coaches and staff instituted a new work methodology across the department and now’s the time to look back at the season that was and the accomplishments that were achieved.

The Under-19 team finished their campaign in 3rd place. The young Yellow & Blue recorded 17 victories over 30 matches where Eylon Almog was the squad’s top goal scorer with 15. Head Coach Guy Tzarfati spoke about the season: “This was a good season and it was in essence my first as a head coach where I managed this amount of games. I learnt a lot from the professional staff and I was able to use what I learnt to help our coaches and players improve. By the middle of the campaign, my players understood my DNA, where we wouldn’t compromise on anything, to desire to win every match and not to give up on the path that we had set because the Maccabi Tel Aviv way is what is most important.”

The Under-17 squad took home the Double winning the League Championship along with the State Cup Title. The team’s goal differential was a +40 as Sahar Barami led the way with 21 goals across all competitions. Head Coach Eliezer Ben Aharon summed up the team’s successful campaign: “It was a challenging season with a number of goals including implementing a new method of coaching together with the new professional staff. I learnt a tremendous amount about myself and football in general. It’s fun to learn and to immerse oneself at the highest of levels. I hope that I’ll continue to learn and reach even more goals from season to season.”

The Under-16’s ended their campaign in 3rd place, scoring 121 goals, while giving up only 19. Raveh Asayag was the leading scorer with 26 goals across all competitions. Alon Brumer, the squad’s Head Coach discussed the season that was: “The season was both interesting and challenging while working with a very talented team. We underwent a significant change in the way we trained and moved to a much more professional and intense methodology. We focused on the development and progress of the players both on a personal and professional level. This was my first season coaching at Maccabi after being away for 13 years. There were many changes and I learnt many new things. I hope that at the end of the process that the professional staff has outlined, we will be able to reach our goals and develop players who will go on to the First Team.

The Under-15 South team finished their campaign in 3rd place, scoring 110 goals while giving up 41. The leading scorer for not only the young Yellow & Blue but the league as well was Stav Nachmani who found the back of the goal 42 times. Head Coach Ori David summed up the season: “There’s no question that this season was clearly a turning point in the development of both the coaches and players. The door was opened for both the players and coaches to the highest level of professionalism. The players worked hard in very physical training sessions, along with learning techniques and tactics over the course of the season as per the professional staff’s philosophy. We are happy as to how the players have improved and I hope that his process will continue next season.”

The Under-15 North team ended the season in 4th place after 26 matches. Yalli Lazar was the side’s leading scorer with 17 goals in all competitions. Head Coach Amir Sofer looked back on his side’s campaign: “This was the first season for the players under the Youth Department’s new philosophy and with everything being new, it took time to adjust. I’m very proud of my team for their desire to learn and how they continued to advance from training session to training session and from match to match. We worked very hard and we saw that with time the players were able to adjust to the new methodology.”

The Under-14 North team captured the State Cup in the only competitive framework for their age group. Head Coach Alon Peleg spoke about his squad’s season: “This season we got to know the new method of play at Maccabi Tel Aviv just like every other team in the Youth Department. It wasn’t simple but we adopted and applied it the way we were required to do so. In terms of player development, the department encouraged having the players work with older teams in order for them to get used to more physical players at a higher level and with a higher work rate to help them develop as players.”

The Under-14 South side participated in the State Cup tournament where they advanced to the quarterfinal stage. Head Coach Nissim Devash looked back on his team’s season: “The new professional staff changed the system that had been in place along with the style of play and slowly but surely the team learnt the new philosophy of the Youth Department. Over time, the team made great progress playing together as a team, but most importantly the personal aspects of the player as well from a technical, tactical and understanding of the game. This was a very talented group and over the course of the second half of the season some of our players went to the Under-15 teams where they were able to integrate respectfully with the older players.”
