Maccabi “Shachar” loses to Hapoel 3:2
A terrific match at the Ramle Stadium ended in disappointment as the Maccabi Under-19 club fell to Hapoel after leading twice. Altman and Almog scored for the Yellow-and-BlueMatchday 28 of the Toto Youth League pitted Maccabi against Hapoel in the second Tel Aviv Derby of the season at the Ramle Stadium. The young Yellow-and-Blue lost to Hapoel in the 90th minute of the team’s first encounter of the campaign as Ziv Arie’s charges looked to avenge the effect with just three games left. Oliel Peretz was unavailable as he was with the senior side and Haviv Ohayon was out due to an injury.
The Derby began with both side’s looking to impress. Maccabi had the first opportunity of the match when Eden Kartzev sent Guy Aviv a magnificent ball, but his effort was staved off for a corner kick. The home side continued to press with Kanichowsky, Dasa and Almog all testing their luck from outside of the box.
Finally, Maccabi struck in the 19th minute when Kartzev was pulled down in front of the goal good for an 11 meter spot kick. Tomer Altman stepped up and scored giving Arie’s side a 1:0 lead. However, Hapoel pulled even in the 33rd minute when Ibrahim Sfori beat keeper Hen Ozeri. 1:1 in the Derby.
If you thought that this was going to be the end of the scoring in the first half, you were mistaken as it didn’t take long for Almog to give Maccabi the 2:1 lead when his 25 meter effort beat the Hapoel keeper who was not in place to make the save. But with just three minutes left in the half, Hapoel drew even once again as Raz Itzhak scored from close in to head into the break at 2:2.
The second half began with the same players as both coaches opted to keep the same Starting XI on the pitch. As both clubs played a bit more tentatively, it took 20 minutes for Hapoel to break the deadlock as Eden Hershkowitz scored the Red’s third goal of the afternoon.
Arie made a double substitution looking to tie up the match as Omri Haramati and Yarin Sharabi were introduced for Or Dasa and Tomer Altman. With the contest nearing its end, Mahmoud Awesat and Amit Rosenboim also came on, but Maccabi “Shachar” couldn’t find the equalizer as they fell to Hapoel 3:2 in the final youth Derby of the season.

Sofer: “The players deserve a tremendous amount of credit”
Maccabi “Eldad” Tel Aviv defeated Maccabi Haifa yesterday 2:0 at Nahalal and won the League title after a magnificent campaign with three matches to goThe year began with Erez Belfer on the sidelines, however after his departure, Amir Sofer who was part of Ran Elias’s staff replaced him and went on to win the Championship.
Sofer didn’t hide his excitement after winning and told the Official Club Website: “It’s never easy to join a team in the middle of the year, but Erez left a wonderful side for me to take care of. Since I was part of Ran Elias’s staff it was also a bit easier for me to get into the swing of things very quickly. I’m not going to lie, I had some concern about taking over the squad in the middle of the season, but thankfully everything went perfectly. I joined a terrific team that continued on its way and built on its success prior to my arrival.”
How the players reacted to the change:
“The players deserve a tremendous amount of credit. The squad not only changed its coach but also some of the players during the course of the season and they were able to handle it. They put in a tremendous amount of effort and motivation from practice to practice and from Saturday to Saturday. The players continue to learn and improve and you can see it on the pitch.”
The club’s direction:
“The most important thing that we want the players to understand is that wins and points aren’t at the top of the list of items that we are interested in, but rather how the players stand by the principles and standards of the club. Once they do that then the results will come. The staff hasn’t taken their foot off of the gas all year long and that’s also why we’ve won so many matches. The key to victory is counting to adhere to the principles and standards of the club during the actual games and at practice.”
The remaining matches this season:
“We’ve told the players that we are going to continue to practice and work hard until the final match. Our goals haven’t changed one bit and the fact that the two teams will be combined next season isn’t a major concern. There are plenty of things going on behind the scenes to ensure that the two sides come together as one club smoothly. The bottom line for us is that this is not a big deal.”
His personal feelings after joining the Youth Department:
“Personally, the club has given me a lot of confidence and it’s a tremendous amount of fun. Every little detail is examined at Maccabi and that’s what brings in the results. It’s an amazing experience to work here and I’m already hungry to begin next season.”

Idan Yogev and Guy Aviv were unavailable due to injury while Oliel Peretz and Haviv Ohayon were with the First Team leaving the coach a short bench for Saturday afternoon’s matchup.
The young Yellow-and-Blue didn’t start the match off well as they gave up an early goal off of a corner kick after an Amir Shapira foul. Eitan Ratzon headed the ball behind Ozeri to give the hosts a 1:0 lead after less than ten minutes in Netanya. Maccabi maintained possession throughout the half but couldn’t find an equalizer as they went into the break down by one.
Coach Arie made a pair of substitutes to begin the second half as Eylon Almog and Eden Kartzev took Prince Thomas and Mahmoud Awesat’s places on the pitch. However, the match took an aggressive turn and coupled with a tough pitch, the Under-19 side had a rough time finding a goal of their own and allowed the Tubruk players threaten the Yellow-and-Blue goal in search of an insurance marker.
Almog gave Maccabi “Shachar” a bit of hope but his header just went wide of the post while Lazar Durovic came in to play striker but proved to be ineffective. As the match neared the end, Tubruk added to their lead as the contest ended in a disappointing 2:0 loss.

The second half mirrored the first until Yarin Sharabi came charging down the right side of the pitch and crossed the ball to Eden Kartzev who headed the ball off the post and into the Raanana goal. Maccabi “Oz” defeats Hapoel 15-5 in State Cup Final
Kfir Alfonte and Eliran Mizrachi's youth players had an excellent morning taking home Israel State Cup in the Under-12 categoryThe State Cup tournaments for many age groups continued today, Wednesday as Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Under-12 side defeated Hapoel in the Derby against Hapoel in front of over 1,500 fans at Ramat Gan Stadium. The young Yellow-and-Blue won by a score of 15:5 versus their city rivals in Red.
Kfir Alfonte and Eliran Mizrachi spoke to the Official Club Website following the match: “It was a terrific morning,” Alfonte commented. “We earned this big victory because of our ability to play well on large pitches, it was just great.”
Eliran Mizrachi also discussed the Yellow-and-Blue performance this morning at Ramat Gan: “We played very well and continued on the path we have been on all season long. We made sure to perform exactly how we had to in order to win. At the break we were leading 6:0 and it was important not to take our foot off of the gas.”
For those that may not know, at this age the pitch is divided into 2/8’s and two of these pitches become one. Alfonte explained how he and Mizrachi work together: “Each one of us takes half of the pitch and we are constantly talking between us. This way we know how we can strengthen the defensive or offensive sides.”
Mizrachi also talked about working together: “We have a relationship on and off of the pitch. We put together the starting lineups as well as the general management of the side, it’s just a lot of fun to work with Kfir. Each one of us does what we need to for the club, checking our egos at the door.”
Getting to the final wasn’t easy for the squad, Alfonte said: “We had a difficult draw throughout the tournament. Sometimes you get weak sides, but not in our case. Every team we were drawn against was strong including our own second club. We had a Derby in the final so the road was difficult but sweet. At the end of the day that’s what made this victory so sweet.” Mizrachi added that the children were very excited: “Two years ago this age group made it to the finals and won. The kids were definitely excited and thrilled but we made sure that they focussed just on football and nothing more. They showed how they could play at the most crucial moments of being an athlete.”
Prior to every State Cup final in the youth department, The Charter of Equality and Tolerance is signed by every player, coach and referee. In addition, the Israel Football Association has educational activities outside Ramat Gan Stadium about battling racism and creating equality for all children and adults.
