On Saturday night tens of thousands of ecstatic Maccabi Tel Aviv fans painted Tel Aviv's Yitschak Rabin Square yellow and blue as they joined in on the official celebrations of the club's 20th all-time national Championship

Ten years in the waiting and on Saturday night, finally, the moment had arrived. Tel Aviv's Yitschak Rabin Square resounded with the voices of tens of thousands of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans and the city was painted over in the traditional colours of yellow and blue. Nearly a fortnight after the maths were done and the first Israeli Premier League title in a decade was officially bestowed upon the club, the time had finally come for the official celebrations – Maccabi Tel Aviv, the 2012/13 National Champions!

Earlier in the afternoon the team had added a 24th victory to their title season, a 1-0 victory at Bloomfield Stadium over outgoing champions Ironi Kiryat Shmona. From there, together with their rapturous fans, the team carried on to the heart of Tel Aviv to join the other thousands of supporters who had come to sing and celebrate until late in the evening, when the lights on the huge open square were finally turned off.

Alongside appearances by Israeli pop stars Peer Tassi, Lior Narkis and the popular band "Ethnix", the entire team, including the managerial and logistical professional staffs, took to the stage and listened on while their names were greeted by the cheers and admiration of the abundance of supporters who had gathered to celebrate a season that had returned to them the pride they had felt in happier days. Maccabi captain Sheran Yeini, owner Mitch Goldhar and head coach Carlos Garcia all thanked them for the support they had so lavishly bestowed upon the team throughout the season. And then, with the official part of the evening completed, the real party got underway, as "Ethnix" appeared on stage to sing, together with the players and the thousands of exhilarated fans, the official Maccabi Tel Aviv Championship song. And so it went on until evening's end, a celebration so vast and joyous that it could no longer leave anyone in ignorance or doubt: After ten long and anguished-filled years, Maccabi Tel Aviv are the Champions!
